They did your work, even under severe pressure and passive aggression after only 2 weeks of the commission being paid for. How in the world do they not deserve payment for their work?
Seriously, I'm seeing way more a beware of having you as a customer than anything else here.
EDIT: I missread a part earlier so I take back and apologize for the remark of putting severe passive aggression on the artist, but I do unfortunately still see this as being a warning against both artist and commissioner here
