I think what I'm looking at was that there was no clear distinction between commissioner's fabric (if any remained) and artist's fabric, only "The rest of the fabric" (presumably containing both).
I just meant earlier in the process I could really easily see the artist saying "Hey, got the 12 yards of blue fabric for your costume," (because that's totally something I could see myself doing). Customer assumed that the whole 12 yards was the supplied they paid for, so it is relatively natural to want the rest of that (if they can use it). Then when being told that she'd have to pay for it, well, I'd get miffed too, after all, I "knew" I bought that fabric already and wouldn't want to pay for it again! The situation defused really quickly once the commissioner realized there were two separate quantities of fabric rather than the artist trying to sell the commissioner the fabric they paid for.
I'm not trying to yell at the artist at all, but that part just seems like an easy misunderstanding rather than a beware.
