Hi, I'm new, but I think this is a really great idea for a community.

1. If you recieve a request from http://kittycatanabana.deviantart.com/ , RUN THE OTHER WAY! She's threatened people and spread rumors for anyone who has rejected her request and even those who have accepted one and "did not do a good enough job". She's been harassing both me and my friends via MSN, Hotmail, and various other sites.

2. http://pink-wolfie.deviantart.com/ comissioned me a while back. The way I do comissions, is the person sends me half payment, then I upload the picture, then they send me the second half, and I send them the picture. She sends me the first half, I upload, she is never to be heard from for months. Finally, I get a reply to one of my many emails and notes saying that she'd rather spend the money shopping, she knows she's comissioned me but I'll have to wait because she wants to go shopping first.

If I've done something wrong, please let me know. I read the rules and stuff, but sometimes my mind or eyes jump so I miss something... eh.

ive only had.. one... two people commission me? i get the payment first before i start anything, cause, well, i know im not going to rip anyone off, and if i did, im pretty easy to find and harass having a public sn, lj, and being on deviantart and elsewhere. if you dont trust someone, request payment before you start. hope that helped?

On the other persons dev page (pink-wolfie or whatever their name is. OO; ) it lists that she's only 12. >_<; That would definately explain the shopping first, responsibilities later bit.

I don't care how old she is, she made a legal agreement with me, and she never fully paid. I've NEVER had to wait this long for a payment before.

I'm not saying it's an excuse. O_O; I'm on your side. I'm just saying that's why she's so ignorant of her responsibilities, that doesn't mean she doesn't owe you money.

Well, y'know how I do it.

Half payment before picutre begins, currently have half sitting in my paypal for one I'm working on. Then, they get a really crappy digital photograph with a pencil, pen, eraser, shoe on it, to prove it's finished, then they send the rest. Then they either get the full scan, or they get it phyiscally sent to their mailbox.

Safest way I can see to protect both parties.

Like most artists - I will collect half the money up front (That is a non negotiable option - that half is paid by the buyer as a guarentee that their commission will be worked on and a guarentee to the artist that the buyer isn't out to try to screw them out of free work). No refund is warrented if the buyer doesn't come through with the rest of the payment, since that half also pays for the amount of work the artist puts into the initial sketch.

If it came to the point where the image was completed and the buyer hasn't bothered to even try to keep the communication line open for an extended period of time (and I tried to keep the line open by sending nummerous emails - the communication line goes both ways, after all), the buyer loses all rights to their commissioned piece and I'd do with the completed image as I saw fit.

I've had that instance happen to me once before (thankfully, only once - everyone else I've worked with are really good with payment and communication and I love 'em for it). The whole thing is you should have a set time that you'll wait for payment. The longest I'll wait for full payment is one month - that's all. After that, if the buyer doesn't pay up, too bad for them. The piece they commission is sold to anyone interested in the final piece and I never deal with the deadbeat buyer again.
