(S)He was not "scammed". I could understand if they had already started on the art, or if I had asked them to, but I was busy trying to get things under control.
Their statement was (along the lines of):

"If I do not receive payment within the 24 hours, you will be no longer allowed to bid on any of my further auctions and the slots will be forfeited to the next highest bidder..."

And, that's what needed to happen.
As I did, indeed, fail to respond or pay within the time limit they reasonably set. And that's pretty much the end of it.
