I need advice regarding a troublesome user.

Hi all. I recently took on an art trade in exchange for a ref sheet of my character.

They got someone else to draw my character (since they can't draw themeselves, but wanted art from me), and I will be drawing theirs. I started on my half of the trade today via a LiveStream so the tradee knows good and well I'm doing my half. Their half of the trade was completed quickly so no worries there.

Well, also today, I found out that this person has a really bad history of being incredibly rude and demanding and selfish to other artists. Some people on Nabyn noted me and told me this and that I should stay well away from this person. This person has also gotten banned on FurAffinity and had created ban-evasion accounts which have been banned too. On their deviantART account, they also cuss out and complain at people who thank them for watches/faves. I don't believe this person is a troll, just incredibly rude.

Example: http://i.imgur.com/7xa5h.png

I also found out that this person is going around telling people they'll put me on here just because they think I was "avoiding them" for the last two days (when in reality I have been busy and not much in a IMing mood). They have also been going around saying I was a "con artist" and that I'm not planning on drawing them anything. The person claims I am his friend (I have only know this person for a few days!) so maybe if I block this person, they'll try to use the "I thought you were my friend" excuse. They are also a liar, claiming I said things when I did not.

Unfortunately, I didn't know this at the time I accepted his offer, otherwise I would have told them no.

What should I do? Should I finish the trade, and just remove him and block them? Or should I post them here? My friend also told me that he had a really awful experience with that guy as well and he wouldn't mind coming here and telling his half of the story. I have screenshots of the evidence proving that this person is disrespectful to artists and some chat logs.

EDIT: This guy is starting to make block evade accounts and note me and is making call out journals on these accounts. He is also IMing my friend and attacking her as well.

Pleeaaseee do, I would very much appreciate it!

[identity profile] taasla.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Considering how they think that they own the rights to whatever images are made for them, I wouldn't even do anything for them. It may be doing things a little more difficult, but I'd try to get in contact with the artist and pay them for their art. =\ That way you have no obligation and no headaches with false reports.

Same here, I'd rather get shouts that are about something substantial, but I've never asked people not to do it and I've never cussed someone out over it. He just takes it way over the top and is an extremely rude/hateful seeming person.

I found him on DA and holy lord...

He does seem to have a real attitude! Id surely post him Alex >.

Why would he pay the artist again for their work? I mean, if they've already finished the drawing then presumably Jerk already paid them for it, right? I read this as Jerk bought Alex a commission from someone in exchange for a picture (in which case Alex would need to pay back Jerk the money he spent on the commission if he doesn't want to do the picture now). I could be reading the situation wrong, though.

[identity profile] taasla.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh darn, you're right. Haha, sorry I had a really bad mental brain fart there.

[identity profile] taasla.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, Houndofloki is right, the troublesome trader person is the one who would be owed money to. Ack, sorry about that massive brain fart. :V With that said, then I agree with everyone else just to do it and get the person out of your hair. They sound like massive trouble.

[identity profile] houndofloki.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
The whole transaction is a little confusing, heh. I'm not sure why Jerk wouldn't just buy a commission from Alex instead of doing it that way.

[identity profile] slushienyappy.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh >.

[identity profile] marblestheskunk.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
No the 'jerk' did not pay for it, the artist did it for free because they are friends actually.

[identity profile] marblestheskunk.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
because alex's paypal doesn't work.

[identity profile] marblestheskunk.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
The person who did the trade did not actually pay for it, he got his friend to draw it for alex for free.
Yes its sorta confusing.

[identity profile] marblestheskunk.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think you should just see if llucario will let you draw her something or pay her, because she did the art for free and just explain to her this person is making you feel uncomfortable.

[identity profile] taasla.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ooohhhhhh, I've got you! Thank you for clearing that up. Then yeah, there's not much Alex can do than just do the art to get this person to go away.

[identity profile] houndofloki.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
OH, I see. Sorry for the confusion then - the whole situation's kinda weird. I was just using "Jerk" as an identifier for the sake of making the comment readable since I have no idea of the guy's name.

I don't even really know what would be the best way of backing out of this trade, then. Doing something for the artist seems off because presumably the artist did the drawing for free, not as a trade, then? And wasn't expecting anything back. But I don't know if Alex "owes" anything to the trade-partner or not since his half was something he got for free? But maybe he still does because the guy still held up his end one way or the other. I don't know. My head hurts.

Seems like the best and most painless way for Alex to get out of this situation is just to draw the guy's character, then block him and move on.

[identity profile] neolucky.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I am confused...about how this trade works. The person you traded with puts no effort into it, gets someone else to draw for you, and you give them something in return?

I wouldn't have traded based soley on how strange and fishy that is. That feels a bit scammy to me on the other persons end.

But since you're in agreement and their half is done, you really need to finish your end of the bargain. Then block them.

[identity profile] cyiakanami.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Uhg, found the guy and noooo thank you. Just finish, hand it to him with the rules for usage, cause it seems he gets misconstrued with them (i.e saying he's allowed to post it where ever, whenever and it looks like he's even edited other's works of art without their permission. So beware wayyy warranted and watch your back with whatever you give him.

[identity profile] houndofloki.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
I see.

It seems like the best course of action here is to just finish his picture and then block him. Because of the way this trade was set up it's kind of impossible to "refund" him but he did give you his end of the deal, so if I were you I'd just draw the thing and then run like hell.

Advice for the OP

[identity profile] mortymaxwell.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Finish your trade.

Block the dude.

Make sure you have rules for making edits/modification to your art posted clearly somewhere in case he tries to change the picture.

Make your IMs friends only and add a clause to your TOS, if you don't have one, that commissions/trades will only be discussed over e-mail. Sticky situations can arise when you have people like this guy contacting you over IM to discuss their trades/commissions.

[identity profile] conigliomannaro.livejournal.com 2012-03-10 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The other artist has already finished their half of the trade, so if OP didn't finish his/hers/zers they would be in the wrong.
