ChimeraSynx Beware.

WHO: Chimerasynx

WHERE: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/chimerasynx

WHAT: digital art, 2 pieces. One to be posted anonymously, the other with proper credit. Both pieces were commissioned at the same time, and paid for simultaneously.
I won’t be posting screenshots on this beware, except one to the Commissions open journal I noted him from.

WHEN: 15January2010 – 02May2012 (current day and still pending)

PROOF:  The agreement is in the notes. Screenshot of journal for commissions incase he deletes it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10565377/Chimerasynx%20journal.jpg

EXPLAIN: Artist accepted a commission from me, took my money then strung me along for almost 2 years before providing any work. We are closing the gap on 3 years with unfinished business. At this point I’m done trying to be cooperative and respectful. Below is the Correspondence between us.

The Journal text to which I noted him to commission off of:

I am open for Commissions, for the moment

I have something planned in Feb and I need some quick cash for it. I thought about another commission auction, but I’ll hold off on that to give more people a chance this time. Instead I will be accepting commissions now-till I get a specific amount, after which I will no longer be taking commissions from the general public (unless it's a special circumstance). Normally I charge half up front, but for this short excursion it will be a pre-paid-only thing, given the timing. Here are the options

Cleaned line art: $20 (possibly over a nice texture or colors for BG)
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3022008/

Colored with simple colored/textured BG: $60
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3167181
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2818345

Advanced: $130 (Humans and feathered things a tiny bit more) (More with BG and/or other characters depending on complexity)
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2545662
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1846724/
Warning: These take a long time to make, (but I have successfully delivered every one).

Payments currently only accepted through Paypal.

Disclaimer:
Yes, I can draw you regular furry porn. No, I cannot draw it like Zaush or Bernal. I cannot emulate a style for you, but I can avoid unnecessary realism if I need to in order for it to be cute. I will not draw pee, poo, child pornography and a few other things as well. Commissions will be done in chronological order. If for some reason I cannot finish your piece, you will be refunded in full.

All those interested, Note me. I can keep better track this way.

Advertising would be cool, but be aware once I reach my quota I will pull down this offer.

Sent Note on 15January2010 – to Chimerasynx - I'd love to take a commission from you.
I like "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"

Let me know which you will do and if I can get a slot ;d If you will do ---- I'd possibly like 2 slots (if you allow)  "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"

Received Note on 15January2010 – from Chimerasynx - Possibly both, what type of commissions did you want? Also, each one might be a tad bit more since I charge for extra characters.  "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"

Sent Note on 15January2010 – to Chimerasynx - Yes I normally commission "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"
Feel free to view my gallery and let me know if there's something you will not do in it.
Extra for extra characters is fine ;d
I'd like "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"If you won't do the "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)", I'll probably try to get you to do "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"
I was VERY impressed with your art quality. The ----  tier option will work for the multi char piece. If I get both I'd also like the ---- tier option for the iksar solo piece. Understanding you'll need to add extra for extra characters/options.
If they come out as nicely as I think I might very well try to shoot for a larger "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)", granting of course you still have a slot at that time and accept.

Received Note on 15January2010 – from Chimerasynx - Well Yes, I can do "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)" XD That would be about ---- (---- for the second ---- added). The single image of "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)" would be ----. Together that would be ----.
My paypal is ----. If you make the final decision and pay, please send me a note here telling em you did so and also what paypal name you used so I can know you were that payment and mark you off as paid on my chart =D

Sent Note on 15January2010 – to Chimerasynx - I'll do up the specifics then, get you to approve those, make the payment and get you to tell me the latest you think the project will be completed by.
I'm only asking that as I had to tell 3 artists to give me art or a refund after waiting a year. 80ish pieces commissioned up in my gallery and I had 3 bad apples.

Received Note on 15January2010 – from Chimerasynx - yeah I can tell you, you won't be waiting a year for cel-shaded & lineart, though you may have waited close to that for a more advanced picture. =x But yeah, I'll get you your art before that, and if not (by some implausible catastrophe) You will defiantly get a refund. I await the specifics =D

Sent Note on 18January2010 – to Chimerasynx - Does this work for you?
I'd like "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"tier option
Focal point is "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"

Received Note on 24January2010 – from Chimerasynx – Ahhh that final special request should be no problem for me, considering my style XD Ok, I can do this.
Unless there is anything else, it looks like it'll be ----. You can send that on over to my paypal:
---- After you do, send me a note here (not on paypal) telling me you did so, so I can mark you as paid. =)

Sent Note on 27January2010 – to Chimerasynx – Sent.
Received Note on 28January2010 – from Chimerasynx - Nice, got you marked down now! And oh hey, what "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"did you want?
Sent Note on 28January2010 – to Chimerasynx - I prefer "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"

Sent Note on 13May2010 – to Chimerasynx - Hey there, i commissioned you back in January for 2 peices. I paid on the 27th via paypal to ----.
"(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"
Haven't heard anything in quite some time, and we just passed the 3 month milestone.
Yes I just finished reading through your journals and while I'm happy I nabbed them before you closed.... I'm also unhappy at what you've had to go through but also at not being able to commission you further in the future....
Could I possibly get a status update?

Received Note on 13May2010 – from Chimerasynx - Things have gone much slower then anticipated. I am still working on them all in order of payment (most of them were on day one, so you weren't exactly at the front of the line =X
But I am still plowing through at the best of my abilities. Don't worry, you should hear something back somewhat soon. =)

Sent Note on 13May2010 – to Chimerasynx - Ok, all I was asking for was a status update. I never assume I'm first or last in line. I just haven't heard anything. I deal with too many artists to be able to read everyone's journals all the time..... Which yours really don't give any updates, just say you are busy. :/ I'm busy all the time myself. I'm happy to hear that you will have an update soon. I'm not asking for my project to be miraculously done bam like tomorrow or anything. I'm taking it by your statement that mine hasn't been started yet. Just an FYI, now that we are over the 3 month milestone I set for my artists, I'll be inquiring approximately once a month till completion. I do this with ALL of my projects. :D

Received Note on 13May2010 – from Chimerasynx - Thats totally cool dude, you got every right to. Don't worry I am not upset you asked about it XD You aren't the only one and its understandable given the time it has taken up til now. So yeah, feel free to ask every month, though it shouldn't take as long as it already has, I will say that much.

Sent Note on 16August2010 – to Chimerasynx - Hello, Been 3 months since I last inquired. - yes I understand I wasn't first in the list but I don't even see a list so there's no way to determine how much you've gotten done in 3 months, or know where I stand on it.
So the only way to figure this out is to ask, I'm not going to hound you, but I am going to inquire every so often. Hows the two commissions looking?

Received Note on 17August2010 – from Chimerasynx - I had to deal with some problem-commissions at the front of the list, and made arrangements to make alterations to their pictures 'after' I was done with more, so hopefully things will move out smoother now =x Sorry about that. Also, I have had a very busy summer that gave me more obligations then I normally have (summers are always like that for me) but now that's all ending. It shouldn't be too much longer.
I know it's not cool to make people wait this long, so if more problems come up, I can offer a refund =)

Sent Note on 11December2010 – to Chimerasynx - Hello, I saw you post a journal about a week prior to you hitting another 3 month mark with no updates/communication or status regarding my 2 commissions with you, stating that you'd be uploading art soon. Since I haven't seen any since that journal (a month ago) I figured I can do my postponed check up with the stamp request and kill 2 birds with one stone. I'm still being patient.
I show you working on a commission for me, not yet completed, as such, since I've recently changed my Commission policy, I wanted to take the opportunity to ask you to add my "commission" stamp to the piece prior to uploading to a public venue. I am only asking this for publicly displayed versions, not the high res kept between us.
---- This is my new Ssvanti Reference, I found a txt file to be not so friendly/formattable. In it you'll find links to the stamp as a Photoshop brush or as transparent PNG's.
Direct links to the stamps are
I'm only asking this for publicly posted pics. IE on my galleries, on your galleries, and on the galleries of any participants that were given permission to re-post the art.
Feel free to modify the stamp a bit if you like, ie add the words commissioned by, or change the colors etc. It also does not have to be very large at all.

Received Note on 11December2010 – from Chimerasynx - Its good that you contacted me, I wanted to discuss something with you.  When I give you your "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"I won't be signing it... I have a few trolls giving me a hard time right now, and reporting me for using "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"seems like the kind of thing they would do =x As such I won't be posting it in my gallery either, but of course you can! I am sorry things turned out this way, but you know how the internet can be, I am sure =/ Also, I will add your stamp =)
Things are crazy here right now for the holidays (they have been since thanksgiving), so everything is on temp hold, but that won't be a problem the start of Jan.

Sent Note on 11December2010 – to Chimerasynx - Fucking trolls! Oh well. Yes, holidays are hectic as expected. :D

Sent Note on 24December2010 – to Chimerasynx - Did you want me to post the image as "Re-posted by Artist that chooses to remain anonymous with permission"?

Received Note on 24December2010 – from Chimerasynx – Yes that would be fantastic

Sent Note on 28February2011 – to ChimeraSynx - Two months since my last checkup plus some change. I'm trying not to do the whole every month thing. Last time we chatted you mentioned soon (no literal timeframe) and that you were almost done. Hopeing things are well with you.

Received Note on 01March2011 – from Chimerasynx - Yes they are, and things are coming along nicely. =D I am putting the finishing touches on several pictures at once so I get a fresh perspective which each of them. Your picture is going to be in the first upload coming soon, that is still true XD

Sent Note on 29May2011 – to Chimerasynx - Hi, it's been yet another 3 months (1/4year) since our last exchange, bringing this project to almost a year and a half since payment. I haven't received any progress shots, sketches, lineart, at this point I'd very much like to ask for a progress shot on both pieces. The word soon for both of us apparently means two completely different things, and even though I'm more than patient, 3 months far exceeds the definition of "soon," not to mention the 6 I've been told "soon" for.
Dropbox is an awesome way to share art without worrying about who's getting access to your files. You can post stuff and give links out to those you want to have access, you can also add people you trust to shared folders.
Or I can provide an email address to email the images too.

Received Note on 29May2011 – from Chimerasynx -  I am so sorry, and you are right, this is definitely a 'my bad' situation that i am entierly to blame for. Things have been exceptionally hectic, and while I can't release all the details, I will just say this. I will send you cleaned up progress shots by the end of next week, that sound good? =D

Sent Note on 29May2011 – to Chimerasynx - kinda has to be, I can't hold a digital gun to you head :/ I simply asked for progress shots. Thank you.

Received Note on 05June2011 – From Chimerasynx - Though you have two people ahead of you, yours is close enough to done it shouldn't take too much more time. I just need to clean it up more and add color, but I need a few more days since I can only freely work on art on the weekends and after work. I'll give you the finished product on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Sent Note on 05June2011 – to Chimerasynx -  Not my intent to jump in front of others, I was just asking for status shots. Your call ;p

Received Note on 17June2011 – From Chimerasynx –  I am going to be handing you your sketch commission soon, and I will continue finishing up the coloring on the "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"pic this weekend.
Last week we kind of had a family crisis, and a friend needed some help moving furniture/rolling out carpet on the weekend. Everyone has me running around doing everything, I am sorry for the delay ._.

Received Note on 17June2011 – From Chimerasynx –  I thank you for keeping this civil, even with how upset you seem to be getting. I am glad you didn't lose your cool, otherwise you might feel foolish right about now. Your pics are done, I have just been poking at them on and off in the chaos that has been this summer. Again, I apologize for the wait, I shouldn't have kept you waiting anymore but you have to look at this from my perspective. I spend each summer doing things with family and friends almost daily(I am not even home a good part of it). Then when I do get a chance to sit down and use the PC I see 5 notes just like yours of people wanting to see progress, or people who have already seen progress and want their finished pieces. I have been scrambling to get things done, and sometimes it's easy to lose track of one thing when another presents itself. In trying to make everyone happy I have made very few satisfied, and all I can do is say I am sorry.
Anyway, give me an e-mail and I'll send your pics on over today. I don't want to upload your "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"pic to my FA or my web space, because again I would like it not to be common knowledge I took a commission for "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)". =x I will probably just sharpen a few lines before I send them over, but in any case, the waiting is over. Enjoy your pics
ALSO, the picture is of "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)". If for any reason this combination bothers you, it would be considerably easy for me to change the ---- before I send the pic over

Sent Note on 14August2011 – to Chimerasynx - Ok, I'm trying really hard not to get upset over this, but you are really making it hard. I've asked for a WIP. You haven't provided one. We are nearing another 3 month block with no updates even though you assured me you were going to get the art done ASAP.
The simple fact you have failed to provide a WIP at any point tells me you haven't even started work. Otherwise you'd provide a WIP.
What is the status on this? I don't want lies, fibs, runaround. What are you doing?

Sent Note on 15August2011 – to Chimerasynx - While I understand your perspective, just shy of 2 years on this, with absolutely no WIP ever, I never saw a sketch, a doodle, an outline, a chicken scratch in the entire time, almost 9 months of being told WIP soon..... seriously. I definitely believe I was more than patient/hospitable. You and other artists have taught me the necessity to form my own commission policies and to seek ways to protect myself from possible loss. So for that at least I've gained wisdom.
Looking VERY forward to seeing the artwork

Received Email on 15August2011 –  from Chimerasynx (Condensed) - contained color WIP of "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)". Missing background and looks to be copied/traced. I’d asked a few other artists about the piece, in person, only showing them off my phone but they agreed that the image looked to be traced/copied and was the result of laziness, and rushed work. The artists name was not given.  Artist essentially told me he never does WIPs due to how the images change as he progresses to the finished product, mentioned he was redoing my character image, and gave permission to post image publicly so long as it was anonymous.

Received Email on 16August2011 – from Chimerasynx (Condensed) - Contained a new version of WIP from email on 15th, as well as B&W of my character.  Artist states he’ll add background to my B&W piece, but is adamant he is done with the "(Detailed description of poses and characters for commissions.)"piece that was paid for with background, yet still doesn’t have, the quality of work and attention to detail is also substandard for the artist. The B&W piece is of acceptable quality, but remains unfinished.

Sent Note on 30August2011 – to Chimerasynx – At this point you are finished with both pieces?

Received Note on 30August2011 – from Chimerasynx - I am still going to pretty up the BG on the lineart and stuff, but I am not going to do that until I am about to make my upload. I am going to do the same thing to all the other lineart commissions at once, but I am not sure what that is going to entail yet (I haven't decided). That may take a while, but please don't feel any obligation to wait for that. For all intents and purposes, your pics are done.

Sent Email&Note 05May2012 – to Chimerasynx - When are you finishing the last bit? I've reached the end of my patience.

Sent Email&Note 23May2012 – to Chimerasynx - Two and a half weeks with no reply. I noted and emailed, as I'm doing now. I want this finished, done and off my unfinished list. I've been MORE than patient, accommodating and nice. Stop fucking around and finish it now please.

re: the 15th and 16th August 2011 emails. Why is it you quote all the other communications, but not these, when your boldest claims come from these two? If it's an oversight, it does show up quite obviously and you might want to fix that!

[identity profile] kerstin-orion.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Just for clarification; it wasn't rejected for "unnecessary detail", it was for explicit content irrelevant to the beware itself.

[identity profile] shukivengeance.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
While the concepts sometimes are relevant context, in this post not so much considering that we can't even see the image to compare the two anyway. Does that make sense?
This is why we asked you to remove the tracing/quality comment. Since the image is off-limits, there is no way to prove this accusation.

Also, as Kerstin said, since the descriptions were of a graphic adult nature, the censorship was asked for in the interest of user-friendliness. Stating that the picture was a "1 character mature image" for whatever would have sufficed in this case.

Accusing someone of tracing is a pretty serious claim without proof.

[identity profile] kerstin-orion.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
It was unfortunately a bit of a Catch-22 with this post, considering the subject matter of the image in question is something with which ChimeraSynx does not want to be associated.

I will see if Ssvanti will be able to share it privately with us moderators so we can make a determination on that part.

[identity profile] kerstin-orion.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Mods can't edit posts, only remove them, but you can edit your post to remove the part about tracing. There should be an "Edit Entry" link at the bottom of your post, right above where the comments start.

There is no image in the post. we were going to approach you privately so that the staff of the community may see it(the piece in question) in light of various things such as the tracing allegations.

[identity profile] kerstin-orion.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
As requested above, please remove the part above that mentions the quality of the work and tracing, since you cannot prove these allegations due to your agreement with the artist.

The specific part you need to remove is in the 15 Aug, 2011 note. "...and looks to be copied/traced. I’d asked a few other artists about the piece, in person, only showing them off my phone but they agreed that the image looked to be traced/copied and was the result of laziness, and rushed work..."

Please take care of this within the next 24 hours. I will screen this comment once the section is removed.

Excuse me. Let me introduce myself. I am the longest-standing moderator as well as owner of the community. You can see all that on the community info page (http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/profile).

As I stated above, please remove the content requested. It may be reinstated at a later date if we moderators are shown evidence of it.

Just quickly chiming in for this: there is a list of mods and it's on the exact page they linked you to. Making an extra page would seem redundant at best, to be honest.

Re: Mod post

[identity profile] shukivengeance.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a link to the moderator list. It's called the community info page. Anything further would be redundant because it only takes one click to find us and it is the user's responsibility to educate themselves on this community's purpose and rules which are also freely available on our info page. It's really quite simple.

[identity profile] ansitru.livejournal.com 2012-06-12 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to reply so condescendingly, I was merely trying to explain that the page you were linked to is usually the first thing you check to know more about the community.

I'm also fairly new to Livejournal and I figured that much out in under 10min by simply clicking around. Ah well.

Thank you for editing your post.

Every community (and person) on LiveJournal has an info page you can get to by clicking on the icon next to their name. For people, it's a head and shoulders, for communities, it's a funky little symbol with red arrows. There is also a link at the top of every page in this community that says, "Profile".

On this page, LiveJournal automatically makes a section listing the official Administrators/Moderators of the community. As this list is pulled directly from the LiveJournal settings, it is the most reliable/up-to-date source for a list of moderators for a community.

It has always been taken as a given that members, being LiveJournal users, would know this. However, we are getting more new users, and users from other social networks, who are unfamiliar with LiveJournal. It may behoove us to make some adjustments to our headers and such to make things like "how to post" and "who the mods are" a touch clearer. Something I will discuss with the other mods. :)

I think you mean the front page not the PROFILE page. Clicking the red/yellow icon by [livejournal.com profile] artists_beware will take you to the profile page that lists our rules and policies as well as a 'staff list' with contact information and more.

[identity profile] leahtaur.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I totally understand -- ChimeraSynx pretty clearly doesn't want the image attached to them. I more meant that even if we could see the image, it would be difficult to tell if it was traced unless someone had happened to see the source image. In my opinion anyway. :P I have never 100% bought into the "this looks traced" theory, that you can tell an image has been traced just by the line quality or something like that. Shaky lines or whatever Ssvanti meant by that might hint at it but it's not definitive.

[identity profile] kerstin-orion.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm going to summarize this just so I'm clear on what exactly happened.

You commissioned 1 linework piece and 1 detailed color piece with background in January 2010.

After 20 months and many promises of "soon", then hearing nothing for months, you finally received 1 linework piece that the artist says they're going to "pretty up the background" and 1 detailed color piece missing the background. (August 2011)

You said nothing to the artist/heard nothing from the artist for nearly 9 months (May 2012), then noted them with a very brief note asking them to "finish the images". And an angry follow-up a couple weeks later.

Is all this correct? I just want to be sure I'm following this accurately.

[identity profile] kerstin-orion.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I meant, after you received the images, you waited another 9 months, from August 2011 to May 2012, to contact the artist again? Is there some communication in between that we are missing?

[identity profile] skanrashke.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't there another beware about her earlier?

I haven't seen them update anything in like 5 months. Did they become active on another site or something?

[identity profile] sigilgoat.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
There was a beware about Synx recently that I believe ended up just about resolved via the edit.

Synx hasn't been active anywhere else as far as I know.

[identity profile] mpd-84.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they have a nabyn account but I don't watch it, so I don't know if it's active.
