RESOLVED

[identity profile] shukivengeance.livejournal.com 2011-12-30 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Approved, but is there any correspondence missing? It's kind of unclear at which part it went from a fix to a whole new tail.

[identity profile] jakejynx.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
So it was supposed to be sent early December. What happened after that?

[identity profile] jakejynx.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well I mean, did you try to contact her after that? The last correspondence is December 2, and it was supposed to be shipped on the 6th. Did you contact her to see if it was done? Did you contact her to see if it had been mailed? Did you contact her to ask why you hadn't heard anything? Did you contact her to let her know you would be posting here?

Anything?

One thing I can say right from the get go-what kind of queue did she have when she took this on? I can knock out a tail in a day, but not if I have months worth of backlog I have to get through before that (and naturally, those photos would be posted in the meantime). If you didn't check, you probably should have. I know this was taken at a con, so that's not as easy as doing online, but asking upfront would have helped you know what to expect in terms of time.

I'm also not seeing when it actually turned into a redo project.

[identity profile] wereguitar.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how you have lost contact with her? She updated her FA Journal 2 days ago. When did you last note or email her?
NEVER assume. You cannot assume that your commission/fix can be done "asap" unless the artist has told you that. You have to keep in mind she might have a RL full time job as well as art as an income. And as someone else said she may have had a queue already that you were placed on the bottom of.

[identity profile] shukivengeance.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
The last exchange says the item was supposed to be shipped on the 6th.

[identity profile] wereguitar.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I see...but what I don't understand is how contact was lost? She's active on FA. Did the OP email her since? If it was shipped any later it may have been delayed due to the Xmas rush at the post office.

I'm not understanding the following:

"Gave her my tail [...] complete redo [...] Turned into a complete REDO"

...
"I gave her my tail to get X, Y and Z done to it. It turned out she is doing X, Y and Z to it."
?

[identity profile] imlikat.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get that part, either.

I also don't know when Anthrocon is. I wish people would use the actual dates instead of just assuming everyone knows when cons happen.

Pretty sure Anthrocon is the end of June now 'cause I know it landed on my birthday one year. :P

The postal service has been insanely busy for the last month and a half :I Trust me. It very well could have been shipped already, but unless it was shipped as "parcel post" I think it really would have gotten to you by now (unless you're in a different country or whatevs). I can't stress this point enough--ALWAYS tack an extra $.70 onto a commission payment so that you can have a delivery confirmation number D: Maybe that will save you some heartache in the future.

As to this certain scenario, I have no real helpful advice. Carry on.

[identity profile] seethecee.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Depending on how they shipped it it could have been back logged, Christmas time is horrible for shipping. Have you tried to check back with them, Did they send you a tracking #?

[identity profile] poprock-grey.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take 100% responsibility on this. I was supposed to have the tail shipping the Tuesday after the 2nd of December, but have recently been struggling with my first full time job. The commission was taken on before the job, so I had no way of know the work load that my job would give me.

I am 100% able to give a full refund and ship the original tail within the month of January, or complete said new tail asap. I am unsure when that may be, but I may be quitting said job because it leaves me unable to do anything else in my life.

Again, I apologize for the wait. I should be able to finish it in a timely manner.

[identity profile] starcharmer.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda feel like you jumped the gun posting here, especially considering Poprock's comment here and the fact that the last contact was received from Poprock at the beginning of this month and there is no correspondence she hasn't responded to. If you don't try to get in contact with her, how can you claim lost contact?

I mean, I realize she claims she's at fault, but that's...just it. She knows she's at fault here and she probably would have given the same apology privately but you didn't even try to contact her again before making this post. She's not making excuses, she's apologetic, she's making a new deadline and offering a refund...idk. It's just my opinion that this post shouldn't have been made at this time.

I sort of feel the same. Especially with it being December, a lot is going on for people, so contact may be less than usual.

[identity profile] starcharmer.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. The holidays are hectic enough, plus she has a full time job evidently. I don't know what the job is, but if it's retail...yeahhhh.

I kind of disagree. If an artist or fursuit maker cannot meet a deadline that they themselves imposed, the burden is on them to stay in touch with their customer and tell them what is going on.

[identity profile] starcharmer.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Like I said, Poprock is not denying she's at fault for not keeping in touch, but the OP didn't even ATTEMPT to contact her after the 2nd and shipping was set for the 6th. While Poprock should have made the time to at least inform the OP of the delay, posting here is kind of a drastic measure for something like that, I think. It's not like she's been giving excuse after excuse, missing deadline after deadline and not replying to correspondence.

Not that I think someone should be guilty of all of that to be worthy of posting here, just saying. In my personal opinion, this beware wasn't warranted yet. I'm sure some will disagree. :)

From what I gather she DID. At least according to Poprock, the artist was the last one to make contact on Dec 2. And as far as I can tell, no deadline was ever set in the first place.

[identity profile] kadaria.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree especially based on the artist's replies here. The item was passed off in June 2011, it will be 2012 tomorrow. Contact has been spotty and the excuse is "my first full time job is hard to work around.". Time management can't be achieved in 6 months?
I agree with Shuki that communication is key, especially if you are going to be delayed.

Voicing agreement with this.

Just my two cents (I've been in Poprock's shoes with a similar situation and also wound up on here).

OP should have contacted the artist again or perhaps through another channel. Then again, how many times should you have to remind someone to do the job they've already been paid to do?

Poprock knew full well this was taking an unreasonable amount time and there is nothing stopping the artist from being preemptive and coming clean about this. It takes like, 5 minutes and a bit of swallowing your pride to say "I'm busier than anticipated, but I haven't forgotten about you". Furthermore, I see here in writing on Dec 2 a broken promise to complete and deliver. That's not cool. If you let someone down, the onus is on you to followup and make it right.

I realize I am being very heavy-handed with this, but in a world of sneaks you have to act like a professional in order to be taken seriously like one. I hope this works out for both parties, I enjoy Poprock's work and I would like to see her move on to doing this fulltime (maybe she will make more pigeons so I can d'awwww at them <3)
