artists_beware | I need advice regarding a troublesome user.

Hi all. I recently took on an art trade in exchange for a ref sheet of my character.

They got someone else to draw my character (since they can't draw themeselves, but wanted art from me), and I will be drawing theirs. I started on my half of the trade today via a LiveStream so the tradee knows good and well I'm doing my half. Their half of the trade was completed quickly so no worries there.

Well, also today, I found out that this person has a really bad history of being incredibly rude and demanding and selfish to other artists. Some people on Nabyn noted me and told me this and that I should stay well away from this person. This person has also gotten banned on FurAffinity and had created ban-evasion accounts which have been banned too. On their deviantART account, they also cuss out and complain at people who thank them for watches/faves. I don't believe this person is a troll, just incredibly rude.

I also found out that this person is going around telling people they'll put me on here just because they think I was "avoiding them" for the last two days (when in reality I have been busy and not much in a IMing mood). They have also been going around saying I was a "con artist" and that I'm not planning on drawing them anything. The person claims I am his friend (I have only know this person for a few days!) so maybe if I block this person, they'll try to use the "I thought you were my friend" excuse. They are also a liar, claiming I said things when I did not.

Unfortunately, I didn't know this at the time I accepted his offer, otherwise I would have told them no.

What should I do? Should I finish the trade, and just remove him and block them? Or should I post them here? My friend also told me that he had a really awful experience with that guy as well and he wouldn't mind coming here and telling his half of the story. I have screenshots of the evidence proving that this person is disrespectful to artists and some chat logs.

EDIT: This guy is starting to make block evade accounts and note me and is making call out journals on these accounts. He is also IMing my friend and attacking her as well.

In all honesty, I don't agree with who tells you to not do their trade and pay the other artist with a picture or money.

See, in this, you are - understandably - kinda jumping the gun: you are going on based on what you heard and seen of this person, but they did not do anything to warrant you backing off of the transaction yet, especially considered that the other side of the trade - your 'payment' - has already been done.

I understand why you want nothing to do with this person, but I honestly think you can't refuse to do what you agreed to without a valid reason, and with valid reason I don't mean hearsay or him being a dick to other people. If I was in their place and you backed off because I am a cunt, though I hadn't been a cunt to you (yet, maybe, but you never know) and you already had what I promised you for your time, I would be really pissed.

In this situation I believe the most professional and polite thing you can do is finish the trade and forget about him. If then he gets all rude to you too, welcome to make a new beware, but for now, all I see is you getting your payment and wondering if you should do what you were paid to.

And the answer, for as unpleasant the customer is, should be yes. At least until he does something to YOU that warrants the breaking of your deal.

I already made a new beware on him and it's processing. I want to warn people of this guy as he's giving artists a lot of problems.
I just saw an artist beware journal on him today on FurAffinity.

I think I just plan to do his thing and then block him. :/ I don't plan on uploading his art anywhere other than Photobucket or something because I don't want something I had to deal with up in my gallery. :/

Unfortunately it's not a money transaction, so I agree with everything else that you've said.

OP doesn't say he saw this person spread lies, therefore I assumed they heard that so I filed that info under 'hearsay'. I simply feel like, for as unpleasant as this person may be, OP has no real ground to break the deal yet, especially because he can't issue a refund because, as you said, this wasn't a monetary transaction.

Ah, I see what you mean. I guess I assumed that someone had pointed the OP to a comment thread rather than saying "um, hey, did you know this guys is saying things about you?" You know what they say about assuming things, haha.

I've already stated in later comments that Alex should finish their half, and that my original comment was based on a massive brain fart on my part.

It wasn't just you (or at least I don't think so, I tend to not really remember the usernames after I read the comment unless it was an offensive/malicious one that impressed me negatively)and anyway I wasn't attacking you, I simply said I disagree. If I came across snippy, I'm sorry.

Oh, there was no offense taken! :) I just wanted to clarify that I was having one of those moments. Sorry if my reply came off snippy, as rereading it it does seem so.

Agreeing absolutely with this. He may have started to tell lies and be weird, but I agree that Alex needs to just deliver and be done.

It's PR. There's still a contract to complete promised work.
