So am I the only one who thinks you seemed a bit demanding and over critical about this? I mean granted she should not have promised to have it done to you in an unrealistic time frame, it does seem like you have been pestering her a fair amount which would frusturate any artist. 7 weeks is longer than you intended to wait, but as far as this community goes, that is no where near as bad, and had you been a little less insistent about it, she might have been more willing to sit down and do it all in one session. And then on OC you were critical of her artistic process. I can understand wanting a certain final product and for it to look a certain way, but you have to remember 20 dollars does not mean tons of work and do-overs. She seems a bit impetious to be sure but at the same time you seem a little obessed with this commision and what you expected it to look like, and it seems like you frustrated her to the point that she didn't want to deal with you any more.

Preahps I'm just feeling like devil's advocate tonight, but that is kind of what I can see happening from her side of the table.

The bottom line is. She and him agreed on a certain time frame that the art was suppose to be done at. I think giving her 3 months for a badge that is suppose to be done in 2 days, is more than enough time. Also, no matter HOW you look at it, ignoring a client is NOT how business works. She should have bitten the bullet, got the work done, then told the buyer how she felt and tell them they did not want to work with them again. This is the THIRD time i've heard her do this. I was just told a friend of a friend at AC was suppose to get it, but Beeejaay said "I'll go get it" then never saw Beeejaay again.

Well as far as pestering goes I really only asked her courteously during a conversation about another topic so it wasn't as if I messaged her saying "oi where's my commission!? >:(" Usually if she said she hadn't had time I'd just say "ah that's okay" and leave it at that. I'm also aware that the amount I paid and how long I've had to wait so far hasn't been as long as other artists but it's still money that I could've spent on someone else and it's caused me considerable worry :( As for being critical of her artistic process I was alright with her half-finishing the sketch but then she disappeared all of a sudden without any explanation. Also as for do-overs I was fine with what she originally produced so it wasn't like as if I was getting her to do the thing all over again :(

I think it's a bit unfair to characterize it as an "unrealistic time frame" and chide the buyer for expecting it to be adhered to when this girl actually used it as a selling point for her commissions (it sounds like the buyer was considering a couple of other artists but Beeejay won him over by promising quick turnaround).

Reading this and some of the replies, I think there might be a couple of things that aren't quite clear in your original post.

Can you give us a timeline of when you pinged her for updates? (like x times the first week of May 08, x the next, x between such date and such other date) Constructing a timeline might better illustrate whether she's been ignoring you or if you really are being a bit of a pest.

As for the "okay i can't do this, you really need to stfu" thing. I almost spit my drink out when I read that, lol. But seriously, folks don't usually say that out of nowhere, unprovoked. Do you have the chat log of the conversation leading up to the outburst? It might be that you stepped over a line at some point, however good your intentions were.

Also, I was under the impression you waited 7 weeks since you got your last response from Beee, but another commenter is interpreting it as 7 weeks for the entire duration of the transaction. Again, dates would be a good thing to have here. Was it 7 weeks since you've heard from her last, or 7 weeks since she first agreed to do the commission?

I gotta agree about the 'stfu' comment... I was eating cereal while reading that part, and very nearly choked on a mouthful. Even if someone was full on nagging, that's still more then a bit rude, especially after she took money for this and was already past the deadline she set herself. And over basic pose/character info and ref picture stuff? Heck, most of the art I do is *FREE* for friends, and I'd still fully expect a slap in the face if I were ever that rude!

And yeah, basic timeline would be nice, the original post is a bit vague.

Well let's see, if the tale is completely correct, first off the artist lied about the time frame which is a major no-no. Seven weeks isn't the whole amount, it's been seven weeks since they last heard anything I believe. Offering the artist reference is hardly "critical" of her artistic process and the abuse in return would be unacceptable from any would be professional. There's little evidence that the artist has done 'loads of work' or 'do-overs' apart from OC crashing and that's why sensible people save regularly.

I think you got a hold of the wrong end of the stick when it comes to the commissioner here.

Like a couple people have said, 7 weeks isn't the entire time. It's been 7 weeks since he had last talked to the artist. Regardless, that doesn't change the fact that 7 weeks is still longer than 'that night or tomorrow'. The artist said she would have the art done by a specific time, and she didn't. It would have been understandable if something had come up in that time that would have prevented her from finishing it, but from the looks of it, that wasn't the case. The fact that she even got snippy after failing to meet a deadline is, in my opinion, so utterly and completely unprofessional. And, like the OP said, he didn't ask her to redraw it. He pointed out position and proportion problems, which I don't think is really the same as her "artistic process". If I have a character with a certain build, i.e. my character is usually pretty chubby, I don't want her drawn looking like she weighs 98 lbs. The OP wanted a picture of his character, so it should look like his character and, in the end, he paid her for a service; if she's doing something wrong or something not to his liking, he should be able to point it out to a reasonable degree. Most artists don't send scans of a sketch for a thumbs up/down before inking just because they have free time on their hands.

It's good to play devil's advocate some times, and look at both sides of an argument, but I think in this situation, the artist is most definitely at fault.

Hmm, yeah, reading your logs... I must admit that you went a little bit overboard with the contact at several points, I think I'd be irked at any commissioner who tried to talk to me as much as you were sometimes. You might want to tone it down a bit for future reference.

I do agree with lilenth that you did seem a little chatty, but at the same time, she said say in the beginning that she wanted to talk and be friends sort of. You did ask about the commission quite frequently, so maybe tone that down a bit.

Also, about the stfu comment. I can't understand the context it's in at all. You seemed up set by it after she said it, yet right afterwards, she's fine and cheery.

Also, the 'someone-else-on-someone's-screen-name' is also so fishy. Whether it's genuine or not I will say.

I really don't know anymore. What appeared to be a clear case of fault is now a little blurry. I suppose all that can be said now is 'the plot thickens'.

Too often, at some points you were messaging her everyday; in particular one day you messaged her on no less than three occasions. That's a bit much even if you are anxious, it can make artists put art off more, they shouldn't but it happens.

Fair enough she obviously indicated that she didn't mind being friendly, but not all artists are that friendly, some simply want the references, brief and occasional feedback on the piece.

Having done commissions in the past, I can sympathize a bit with her situation considering at least in my opinion the buy did seem a bit insistent. But this brings an important lesson up for any artists: Don't set unrealistic deadlines. If you say "I can get the piece done by tomrrow" get it done by tomorrow. I never try to put deadlines on my self like that.

If an artist says... say, 3 days, really now, it should be done in 3 days. Keeping word on deadlines is very important. I'd love to see her keep up this type of work ethic and survive in the freelance world where business hire her for work. Art is art and reputation will follow, whether you're doing furry art for people on DA or FA, or doing work for companies.

Some folks use extreme language daily and don't put much weight on it, which if you two had a history of talking like that I'd kind of understand, but this is a business transaction here. O_o And she doesn't say something like that before or after... Kind of baffling, lol.

Though you (zooty) do seem pesty! You just seem to have an excitable personality. It wasn't something for her to say something that harsh over, but I think she was within right to be at least annoyed since you poked her 3 times in a day at one point. As Lilenth has said, you do hover around quite a lot in a few places.

Thank you for posting the logs! That gave a few dates and gave everyone a better grasp of what's going on between you two. Sounds like the transaction fouling up was from a little miscommunication on both sides. Though I'd say she's more at fault than anything. Even though you might have messaged her enough to be a "pestering," you did not do so rudely, and that's no reason to blow you off as a client!
