Advice Please?

I'm looking for some advice here. I'm not sure what to do to help my best friend. She won a partial from furbuy and the maker was going to do handpaws and sleeves to the buyer's size. They're simple, sandwich no pads, no claws. How long is it supposed to take when you have all you need? I'm not really a 'maker' myself, but I did my own sleeves and paws in less than a week...but that was me being lazy because sometimes I find hand sewing boring.

Should it take beyond the limit of recouping money on paypal? It's 46 days now since she paid in full, expecting it to not take too long because of how long it takes me to hand sew stuff for myself. Obviously money for me means I'll not be so lazy and complete it faster. But..yeah.

I suppose it just irks me that this maker has made a headbase and will fur it to sell and make it into a partial and is also offering so many spots for headbases at this moment, but can not finish up something that was already paid for. I really like this maker, each head they do, they get better and better! I just find it offputting. My friend tells me she just gets excuses as to why it's not even started yet. At least cut the parts out?

How long should she wait before asking for a refund and or posting the maker here to warn others to be wary? She does really want the partial though, so I'm leaning more towards ideas on how to motivate the maker into finishing and shipping it out. So anything you can offer to help, please do!

Have you seen any WIP pictures?

46 days is a long wait. It takes time to do stuff, but in this long of a time, they should be updating you on it.

I know it takes time, but sleeves and simple paws should not take over a month. At least I don't think so. The head and tail had been done already. In the auction all that was left was sleeves and paws made to the winner's size to be done.

They have everything they need, had it from the start, including measuremants (which was given along with the paymant.) There has been nothing done on them, no WIPs. This maker just gives excuses as to why they have not started yet. Then they take on more work without doing what has been already paid for.

I made up a pair of gloves for a costume myself in maybe an hour with scraps I had laying around, so 46+ days seems like a really long time unless something else has come up. But since the artist is also offering/doing other commissions...

If you'd really like to get the gloves, I suggest maybe telling the maker that you'll bring the case here if you don't see WIP shots or get the paws by a certain date? That seems to get a lot of people going more often than not.

this. if said maker had a queue going, and these handpaws got put at the back of it, it's feasible to wait a few months for a set of paws. one thing people forget is fursuit makers have lives too, or at least we're supposed to X3 not all of us do this full time, most work this hobby around full time jobs and other obligations like school and family too. though, if there was a queue your friend was placed in, your friend should have been notified and given some sort of idea of a completion date... also, paypal has a limit of 45 days to file a dispute, so that's sort of out of the question at this point...

yes the most important question is whether you/your friend and the maker discussed a timeframe, not what we generally think is a "Reasonable" timeframe. Any individual can have a very different idea of what is "reasonable".

So, has your friend asked them for updates? Has the maker said anything about when your friend can expect things to be shipped?
If not, I'd advice your friend to tell the maker that they're wondering what's going on and were hoping to get the paws by ____ date (where ___ can be whatever your friend is comfortable with)

No queue. The maker does premades and sells them, then recently opened for headbase commissions.

While it is a bit of a wait, it doesn't seem excessive, at least without knowing what the communications were. What "excuses" were given?

I think at this point it would be better to talk to the artist directly then to make assumptions, because you're making a lot of them here.

I can handsew handpaws and armsleeves in a day. Not saying everyone can/has as much spare time as myself, but 46+ days?
Has the maker offered any actual reason as to WHY they havn't made them?
Also, has your friend received the existing items yet? I give buyers the option to have the existing item sent first and the extras sent once completed, or all at once.
