Anyone else ever have problems with him? I have in the past...I pretty much hate him to an extreme with how racist and greedy he was...

Hmm... the comment alone would have made me cut all ties anyway; that's rude no matter who it's from or directed to. (For instance, put any other nationality/race in the place of "americans" and it's a nasty comment no matter what) After someone said something like that to me I'd never go back to them at all.

well I can understand how an artist might feel when a commissioner says, "lets be friends!" because a lot of the time the artist just wants to complete a business transaction and them move on. But his comment was *completely* uncalled for!

::shakes head:: Dear, don't try to "top" anyone. It'll only make you depressed. We artists are our own worst critics, and we will always find something wrong with just about everything we create. That's normal. Trying to get better than "Captain Amazing Art Poo-Bah" will just make you that much more frustrated with your own work.

Bottom line, there will always be someone who's better than you. The only person you need to worry about besting is yourself.

Also, it's a bad idea to put even the most talented artist on a pedestal. They can turn out to be total jerks/losers like Mr. Orochi there. And even nice artists will have bad days and snap at everyone. We're all only human, after all.

Don't get discouraged; keep at your artwork. I bet even Orochi's art sucked rocks at some point. ^_^

Ya know; your not the only one that has done that.
I myself admired Orochi/Oscar for some time; really looked upto his work and studied it too. To the point all I could think about doing was mimicing his style and becoming 'better' then him. Not because of attitude but because he as an artist does good work [even if he is an ass.]
Though I really dunno what it was that changed it [I think it was his whole attitude] for me to give up on that; but after that I have just pushed to be better; just so I can become known.
3 years later I'm in awe of my own work p_q;; [not that its a bad thing]

I never had a problem with Orochi, but then again I only got one commission and that was it. :/ I think that was uncalled for as well.

I like drawing pics for others [hence taking in commissions] and pictures of couples [I like pictures showing posative emotion] so those two are my main drive; as for my medium; standard red Colerase and ink then coloured in Photoshop. Though I've had alot of time to practice *whines something about not having a job*

I like where I am living; I live with 2 other artists. Its more a case of living confortably rather then just scraping through. Job would help greatly in one case suck in another.

It's the talent that draws attention TO them, but trying to get attention FROM them, some people realy make tailholes of themselves, being generaly annoying to the artist in question and jading them to fans in general sometimes. SOME artists let it go to their heads and start treating EVERYONE like we're just some sort of second-class creature, here only to hand them cash and admire every little thing about them, and when you don't, they give you grief.

....possibly. I'm not good enough to get that kind of attention yet, so I wouldn't know. That's one thing I hope I NEVER fully understand. Artists or not, mean people suck.

Wow. I think I'm going to unwatch him now.

A lot of the times, I've noticed fans seem to assume that good art makes a good person. Unfortunately, there's a lot of times where the attention seems to turn an average person into a total jerk. It's a real shame, and especially irritating because you can't stand up for yourself without their fans being all "IGNORE THAT PERSON THEY'RE JUST JEALOUS THEY'RE DUMB AND SHOULD DIE WE LOVE YOU (artist handle here)".

I know a couple very popular artists that I had clashes with because they were so incredibly full of themselves thanks to their popularity. I let it go and just forget about them, but more people need to realize good art=/=good person.

SSL?? *lives in Australia p_q;*
I'm assuming thats something like welfare??
[Which in most cases is basically what I am on anyhow; art is just what helps pull even]

Sadly, yes. We wait for other people help other people and do nice stuff for other people... and when we finally get around to ourselves, the bloody little left to bother with. Reality sucks.

...and I used to be such a nice guy.

No matter how good an artist is, I can never find joy in an artist or give them any respect when they; A. Are rude, uppity or unkind to others, fans or not.
B. Are under the impression that their art is the best there is ( there was a discussion about him on this matter a couple years ago).
and C. Pretty much do art just for the making of money rather than for the pure joy of creativity. (not that im saying making money is bad but when someone seems so much more focused on that than anything else, I just cant give them any respect).

Frankly..

...it's gotten to the point that I just assume 'raving anus' is the default setting for amazingly good artists, at least in this fandom.

The anti-American sentiments are getting a little old by now. I used to like Chugworth Academy, until I actually read some of what the artist behind it was saying, blog-wise. Huzzah for complete jerks; I'm no longer planning to buy a trade-paperback.

I commissioned him for a pic of two my characters going at it, and he added a "For your greatest fan..." on the end of it for no apparent reason.

The way the image was done it made my character look like a slobbery, cock whoring fanboy. I had to ask TWICE to have a version of the image without the line. Then, on a second picture, I had asked for a picture of two ferrets that I wanted to give to a friend, but he decided to draw cats instead. They looked NOTHING like ferrets.

Requests to have it changed went unanswered.

He does good art, but he tends to just draw what he wants.

Also, Orochi used to have a LOT of negatives on Furbid, but he changed the name of his account to something else, then made a new one to void out the negative feedback. I, Calorath and Moldred had left negative feedback (amongst many others) that he hid away.

I've got negative feedbacks of my own, which I'm ashamed to say... I earned. He couldn't get money out of people with them, so he buried the hatchet and restarted.

I hope everything goes well though! Take care of yourself ^_^
