See I sell sculptures, and the seller I'm complaining about sells sculptures, and when that's the case (unlike say digital commissions) as a seller you KNOW you're going to have to spend time wrapping the item up, using a decent amount of packing materials, and spent time going to the post office or UPS and filling out forms and sending it. So to me that shouldn't be part of the "shipping" cost. I sort of factor that in to my commission price.
For me, since I live in canada and refuse to use our awful postal system, everything goes UPS. So I spent about $10 on materials and generally half an hour to 45 minutes wrapping a sculpture for shipping. I wrap the sculpture in about 10 layers of bubble wrap and place it in a smallish box, then double box that with packing peanuts between the 2. I take the bus out to UPS, and with forms and all that the trip takes around an hour. UPS charges me $40-$50 to send something, plus $6 for insurance. However, I charge my customer $40-$50 depending on their address and that's it. To me (and again all just my opinion) the rest is service and being a good seller, and gets factored into the cost of the items.

That's just how I do things. :/
