It's sad to have to post here, as all the artists I've commissioned up to this point have been utterly professional in their dealings, as well as being great fun to work with. But it's now got to the point with a particular artist where I consider ever receiving the completed art as a lost cause, so guess I've got nothing to lose.
I met Gazadaz in October last year on an IRC channel. She'd just lost her job, and was taking commissions to raise some money, so I asked her to draw my character. We agreed on a colour picture for $25. She produced a quick rough sketch, which I approved and so Paypal'd over the money. Things all seemed to be going well, but weeks turned into months and I heard nothing further.
Now, I'm a patient person. It wasn't a great sum of money to begin with, and since she seemed to be going through a rough point in her life judging from the occasional journal posts I caught, I wasn't about to badger her or push things.
Yesterday, she reopened commissions, citing no money again as the cause. So I figured now would be as good a time as any to ask her about my outstanding commission. The conversation went as follows:
Me: Hey Gazadaz! Any chance you'll be finishing the commish I asked for in October last year? Paid $25 at the time for a nice coloured piccy, and you got up to this point: (link to art) Thanks, Aq
Her: Yea I know.
Me: So is that a 'yes I'll finish it' or a no?
Her: Maybe.
After eight months have passed, I don't consider a 'maybe' to be a very reasonable response, and nor do I have the inclination to pursue it further with her. So for anyone considering commissioning her, be wary, unless you're happy to risk being told there's only a chance she'll finish the art you paid for.

Date: 2007-06-13 12:43 pm (UTC)Aq, hun if you paid via paypal, maybe you can complain to them and get your money back? I know its not a lot of money. But with her response, Im not feeling she deserves the sympathy really.

Date: 2007-06-13 03:08 am (UTC)Definitely try to get your money back, or at least comment there that she isn't an artist you want to give money to. She does good work, but it's not worth it if you don't get what you pay for. :P
That just...boggles my mind that she even SAID that to you.

Date: 2007-06-13 06:00 am (UTC)What a f**king moronic thing to say to someone who's paid you money. I'd definitely demand a refund at this point from someone with that attitude.

Date: 2007-06-13 07:30 am (UTC)WTF? She's obviously not taking her work very seriously! There's no "maybe" after you've accepted money to perform a task. You should definitely demand a refund.
