Serious Thread
Jul. 3rd, 2007 06:26 pmHi guys;
There's an unwritten rule for this community that really SHOULD go without saying: Don't make stuff up. Seriously. That's libel. It's totally lame. Anything that gives lawyers a wide opening to kick your butt is pretty lame in my book.
Besides, when you make stuff up, people will work it out eventually. Then you'll wind up looking like a total a-hole.

Date: 2007-07-03 08:43 am (UTC)AT LEAST we were warned about someone not to take commissions FROM. I don't even know what I'd do if someone started claiming that I finished their badge and when they tried to pay for it, I gave them a wrong address.
Seriously, what kind of stupid story is that?
I GUESS
And if -I- was wanted by the police, I would just have a commissioner send my money to my parents' or grandparents' or my mother-in-law's. P:

Date: 2007-07-03 08:52 am (UTC)Hey Cherie, you should totally ram a lawyer up that commissioner's ass. Lying about something as serious as police involvement has gotta be grounds for a scary letter at least. They dragged your name through the mud right? Or tried to anyway. =/

Date: 2007-07-03 09:04 am (UTC)I concur.
There were some people who believed their post saying, "thank you thank you for the warning! I don't want someone who is involved with police". :/
Some people won't see this post and won't remember the last one, but when they see the name "Lucky Coyote," they will think, "That person is linked to bad in my brain. I'm not sure why, but if it is linked that way, they must have done something!"

Date: 2007-07-03 01:56 pm (UTC)I doubt she would come off all that clean if she did, because she went and harassed the person in turn in their journal.

Date: 2007-07-03 02:30 pm (UTC)Yeah Cherie, Vogeldrache is offering to give you the several hundred dollars (at least) it'll cost to pursue this to the fullest extent of the law!

Date: 2007-07-03 03:41 pm (UTC)you're kidding, right? you can't get blood from a turnip (the kid's 13-14 for crying out loud, their allowance money probably wouldn't even pay back the fee to file the case), the evidence is gone, and the people who might have believed it at face value last night sure as hell know the truth now. also, you would have to prove that Lucky_Coyote had seriously lost business from that one posting last night. If anything, it's been more exposure for her, because I sure as hell had never heard of her before -- either of these people involved, even.
perhaps i have said too much, though. never mind, plz to continue pursuing that retaliatory line of thought; i'm sure the honorable Judge Mathis would be glad to take your case. i always need more 'srs bizness'-based icon fodder anyway. :3

I'm glad you took care of it.

Date: 2007-07-03 09:10 am (UTC)Granted there is no excuse for stuff like this (even being a kid) - but it's probably a good thing to try and steer clear of commissions in this age range.

Date: 2007-07-03 09:15 am (UTC)Suing in a case like this would probably have you spending more money then you could hope to get out of it. Also her parents would be the ones you would have to go after since she is a minor. You would have to really prove in court that you suffered damages/pain and suffering - and the post in question was only up for a few hours or so and a lot of people were calling BS on it anyways.
Best thing to do..stay away, let your artist friends know so they don't end up in the same boat (not to be malicious, jes' to protect your peeps.)
Also..look into people who commission you/you commission over the net if at all possible.

My grandparents are the ones who told me this. I didn't call the cops, they called the state police over there and I think they're shitting me now that I think about it.
Sorry for being a dipshit, it was late at night and my grandparents had me fucking terrified.

http://pics.livejournal.com/growing_rose/pic/0008p164 This one, too!
As for the post, yeah ... whose freaking grandparents are going to go and check out every single address through the police to find out if it's real? That's what got me originally.
Anyway, Lucky, I hope you get your money and I'm glad that so many people ignored this post.

Date: 2007-07-04 01:07 am (UTC)Firstly, she's 13 and obviously very naive. Secondly, I don't doubt for a minute that her grandparents made up some bullshit excuse to prevent their grandchild from contacting someone from the internet; if I could list out all the outrageous things mine said to me when I was younger, I would.
Remember people, she's 13, a heck of a lot younger than most of the people posting here. Yet you're all treating her like she knew that her grandparents were lying and posted an entry retelling what her grandparents allegedly said because it scared her, just to get out of paying for a commission? What on earth ever happened to 'innocent until proven guilty'?
Yes, this goes to show that until she gets older, the OP isn't one you'd want to be commissioned by, but did anyone even bother to listen to her half of the story?
You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves, this is not some mature and responsible adult you're dealing with, but a naive little kid.

Date: 2007-07-04 01:44 am (UTC)I semi agree with you that people have leapt at the 13 year old a bit but at the same time, 13 is not the same as 5, at 13 someone should be more than capable of knowing that you don't go around making such claims publically without hard evidence to back you up. Also Lucky Coyote has claimed the original OP gave her several different reasons for not paying. That said if the explanation that the grandparents interfered is true, a 13 year old should not be commissioning people without seeking permission from their guardians first. So the 13 year old was at fault there for not ensuring that what they were doing was okay by their guardians. It's also the guardian's fault for not monitoring what the 13 year old was doing online.
I should add though that I wasn't impressed with Lucky Coyote's response to the issue before the original post was deleted myself, to the point where I wouldn't commission her for fear of a similar reprisal if something went wrong.
And I wouldn't call most of the posts "obscenely rude" at all.
