I have no idea who it is because they left a blank main page, but I reported them to geocities for taking one of my own pieces to use as a furcadia profile. Still waiting for a reply back from them.

I don't think that's really "art theft"... The owners' copyrights are STILL on there, and there is no way to prevent viewers from saving artists' work onto their hard drives. The person isn't using this as a pay site, so he's/she's not exploiting their work for profit.

Saving the image to ones drive is very different from snatching and reuploading to another site to use for your own more PUBLICATED use.

Redistributing my work without my permission is theft.
Making money from it isn't the deciding factor on what makes it theft or not.

But he/she is NOT making money, and they still have their signatures displayed. He/she is not stealing, just showing other people's work. It IS theft when they are making money off these artists' work and giving them diddly squat in return. You can not protect your work when they are displayed on an open site such as VCL, DevART, etc. which do not prevent others from right-clicking. If you do not want your work displayedd on another site, make your own that is not right-click accessable.

They were using the images for profiles on the Furcadia muck. They are thereby redistributing the artwork without permission.

Welp, I'm sure you're just trying to find some way to slighten the actual problem by pointing out a different genre' that allows the legal sales of fan materials in Japan, unless I am otherwise misinformed, (not to mention I don't say this character represents me in r/p or anything, nor would I run if a speaker for the owner stated they didn't want me to use them, Or you just don't like narcs, and that's okay.) ...but because of the grapevine I planted here, and the relay another user was kind enough to do, the reply I got from that other artist along with my own confronting the user in question, I was able to have the person remove the art.

It ended rather politely, and they even inquired about the terms of use for images if they commissioned me in the future. :P (which I actually dont care what they do as long as my artistic credit remained and they didnt mass print them for sales.)

In case you wondered, I DO own the book my Disgaea icons came from. The creators did see money on my behalf. :)

Point missed completely.

I was more commenting here on the fact that I think it's funny that you're complaining about someone violating a copyright by using an image in a profile, while meanwhile, you're using images from Hellsing and Disgaea as your own icons on LiveJournal. Pot, kettle, etc. It's the same thing.

And hey, that's great that you bought the book, but I doubt there is any kind of stipulation in the book that states that you can use the images in any other context so long as you've purchased the book already.
