Starfinder - Past Due Shout Out

Hey there everyone. At the suggestion of one of the mods here, I decided that it would be better to post this here rather than creeping through comments since it may still get lost in the shuffle that way.

So, if I still owe you any sort of artwork, please contact me at kannos[at]nvisionphotosandart.com and let me know so I can work with you to create something that you will be pleased with. I no longer have a working printer so if those of you who wanted prints are okay with it, I can substitute a commission/illustration of greater value instead, or I can look and see if I can afford to get the prints made in a shop locally, although depending on the cost I may not be able to afford to do them all at once since my own finances are bearing down on me hard.

So, I am willing to work with you guys, just please keep it civil, don't bite my head off, and let's work together to get the few remaining folks off the 'unhappy' list and over to my 'happy' one (which is quite populated now due to all those awesome'pay upon complete' commissions I've churned out on Inkbunny over the past 2 years).

My new business model (well, not that new, it's been around for 2 years now) of 'pay upon complete' has been widely successful over on Inkbunny with 180+ commissions being completed that way, and the number continues to grow with each passing day. While the volume of commissions isn't enough to sustain all my bills/living expenses, it's certainly enough to cause people to take notice. I apologize to those who have fallen between the cracks using the old method years ago and would like to make sure they get something nice in the end. I also have no intention of ever switching from my current method because it works so incredibly well and everyone has been very happy with it so far, myself included. :) I hope that folks here are willing to see that and that those who have been upset in the past are willing to contact me and allow me to make amends with them.

Thank you! A lot of people are hung up on the very VERY dumb things I did as a teenager, but they have got to realize that people grow up and move past that. Teens do a lot of stupid things. Some end up knocked up. Some wreck their parents' cars. And some fall flat on their face with commissions. It doesn't mean that because someone made mistakes as a teenager, they are forever going to be a terrible person until they die of old age. I am sure that each and every one of the people who points a finger at me can also point one back at themselves regarding some point in their life where they acted poorly. It's human nature and it's only a bad thing if someone doesn't learn from it and take steps to fix it/change it.

I'm not the same person I was almost a decade ago, and I hope that people can see that and treat me accordingly. :)

I have said harsh things in the past, because at the time, you were doing bad things.
I've mostly kept out of the recent posts because I do see you making some efforts at change, which seem to be working for new people. I'm glad you've found a system that works. I still think you could work on the professional attitude some (others have already explained how and I don't see a point in repeating it), but even so, that has improved as well.
And if you do actually make up for /all your past commissions that you can reasonably get a hold of/, I will be willing to believe you've changed enough to be a decent businessperson and have nothing more to make up for. This post is a good step, I hope to be able to look back later and see that all known obligations are filled.

Sharon (also known as T the Wolverine) is not really in the fandom anymore. I suspect they would rather just have their money returned(I think it was relatively minor amount). This was pre 2006, probably pre 2005.

I just sent her an e-mail. Hopefully she will still want art, since at the moment I simply can't afford to refund anything, even 'minor amounts' due to my financial situation, however I CAN and am willing to create art for her at a greater value than what she actually paid for (think of it as accruing 'art interest')

I have tried numerous times, even when he was living with Maveric Cowboy (who was a witness to it) but I couldn't (and still can't) afford a refund and he refused to discuss any other way I could make it right. I really don't know what to do because I keep trying to offer to resolve it and can't seem to make any progress on the matter.

I'm trying to make these right to the fullest of my abilities but it's hard when the other side doesn't take any steps. :/ I'm trying with this one, I really am..

Just also here to say I'm really pleasantly surprised that you're working to make amends with your old customers - Its going to be hard work from the looks of things, but your efforts in it definitely won't be wasted. The community can be pretty forgiving and supportive as long as the effort is made and maintained to make things right. :)

Good luck, and if it keeps up I'll definitely be commissioning you someday too. I've watched you for years but was wary to do so because of old work behaviors, so I'm really excited that I'll hopefully be able to do so without worry in the near future!

It is very good to see that you've maintained a 2 year streak of happy customers on IB and hope that you are able to have that clean slate.

I hope not to come off preachy for this next bit. My only advise is to let your personal life stay personal. Bills, eviction and loans plague us all and many get offended when some make it sound like their situation is a special case. I had to replace a pipe in the yard that cost $4700...not including the preliminary repair that was $750. It's more professional, imo, to just open some slots to try and raise money without going "I can't live in my house because my pipe is broke" Even tho it would have been completely true. My problems are never my customer's problems unless it directly effects my turnout and even then my delays would be made aware without all the details about pipes, evictions, etc.

I will say...holy crap your ability to turn out work at the speed and quality recently is super impressive! Have you ever sat down to seriously figure out your earning potential so you can end your "limbo" phase? It is highly possible that some of your past commissioners want refunds which would be hard since it sounds like you're living paycheck to paycheck. So I guess my last recommendation is to figure out your potential turnout (how much you can comfortably complete in a sitting), your TRUE cost of living (bills, food, etc) and what's left over for refunds/or how many extra pieces you can complete to use the money SOLELY for refunding purposes.

A moderate increase to the prices of commissions could allow you to take on the same amount of commissions while also getting you out of a badish spot. (I actually don't know how much you charge now, but most people underprice themselves anyway so it'd even out, imo.)

I'm really happy to see that you're trying to make amends and right wrongs with those you've dealt with in the past. I can't imagine trying to face up to a situation like that, and I respect you for doing so. Hopefully, other artists who have garnered similar reputations will draw inspiration from your changes and realize that they can patch up, too.

I am going to post mine here so it can keep updated and not be lost in the shuffle.

I haven't received my commission from July 2005, and I paid $900 for it. After recent communications with Kannos via here on ArtistsBeware and on Inkbunny, she is now in the process of creating some art for me of approximately equivalent value. She's currently in the pose sketch stage.

As I get further updates, I'll post here with them. Just want to make sure I'm not forgotten! :)

Star tried to make it right with me but I just noticed our emails are from May 2013 it is now almost Feb 2014 and not a single word. I see she is taking commissions over on Inkbunny without finishing her backlog so I am just calling it quits now and taking the loss. I do not really have any proof left from years ago that she owed so it so, I cannot write up a proper artist beware. Obviously its not doing a damn good anyway.

Missy_da_dane please post an artist beware for the sake of people like me who didnt know any better. I was going to commission her but then by chance found these posts. She is now requiring some people to pay upfront so beware. I know one other person who has been scammed by her after they paid her upfront but I cant post an ab on their behalf because I dont have their permission. But yea she is still doing it to people.
