Definitely go with the YCH option. Since you're concerned about them causing a scene, I'd say finish up everything else on your plate first, THEN put up the YCH auction.
why wait? If you wait a month or so to put it up, the people involved won't be fresh off breakup and may well have forgotten entirely what the WIPs looked like by that point. (delete them if they were linked to, so they can't look back at them) so even if they're watching you, its less likely they will A) recognize the piece B) have any remaining emotional investment in it.
