Google docs is great too!

Date: 2013-11-09 08:49 am (UTC)Google Docs is good for group projects and collaborative work. It's convenient for sharing documents, spreadsheets, data, etc. with a small group of people or a large group of people. I usually see artists use Docs for ToS, commission info, and other long-ish documents. Some also use them for organising commissions, but I think Spreadsheets are more common for that. The Spreadsheets aren't anything special; they're basically a less pretty, more staticky version of Microsoft Excel. Everything is tied to your email account.
Trello is kinda like a tasklist/checklist without the tickboxes. (It's different from the typical task-managing apps for iOS devices and OSX.) It's convenient and intuitive for managing items on a list. The user can create a workspace, and that workspace can contain lists, which in turn contain items. These items can be dragged-and-dropped to different lists on the same workspace. It's more focused, so it's definitely less versatile. However, I wouldn't consider Google Drive and Trello to be that fundamentally similar.
I use both websites, but I use them for completely different things. I overall prefer Trello.
My main issues with Google Drive are:
1. I like to keep my personal Google accounts and professional Google accounts separate, which makes using Google Drive inconvenient.
2. The URLs are too long, which makes them annoying to share.
3. Google Forms (also part of Google Drive) isn't a reliable service. I've had issues where the form will notify the user of a successful submission, but not actually send any info to the form's creator. Wherever possible, I avoid commissioning from artists who rely on that system; it's too much of a hassle to handle the communication errors.
My only practical issue with Trello is that the widths of the columns aren't adjustable; therefore, workspaces with many lists may not display well on some monitors. If I was an artist, I'd probably use Trello for simplicity, concision, and practicality. In my opinion, it requires less set-up and less thought.
Both websites autosave, but I don't really see why that's so relevant.
