WHO: d1sease on Fa

WHERE: https://www.furaffinity.net/user/d1sease

WHAT: Two full color bust pieces.

WHEN: October 14th 2013

PROOF:
Literally EVERY private message we've shared from start to finish.

1: http://i.imgur.com/tFa0Kblh.png
(requesting the commission, seeing if everything was peachy I was really excited! Their art was really good!!!)

2: http://i.imgur.com/WsgVkJQh.png
(accepting the commission, and a response to a comment I made that i probably wouldnt have a reference for the other character for a little while. They were fine with that)

3: http://i.imgur.com/v53x7fih.png
(my stating that payment was sent, and a general question about one of the characters)

4: http://i.imgur.com/N0IJAIah.png
(their stating the piece would be completed that night)

5: http://i.imgur.com/3dZCJ5hh.png
(its been 4 days since they said the first piece would be done, I really wasnt worried at this time)

6: http://i.imgur.com/eyP6Rbjh.png
(a little over a week after stating the piece should be done, I was told the file of my piece was "corrupted" but I was provided a rough sketch of the character found here http://i.imgur.com/UCY4a6V.jpg)

7: http://i.imgur.com/uosKZ3bh.png
(and now, just over a month later I came onto FA to find this GEM)

EXPLAIN:
What did he/she do?
- I commissioned d1sease a month back for some digital art pieces. I had the expectation it would be done within the next few weeks as per their journal (which has since been deleted sadly) Communication at first was hasty and well met, but once a few weeks passed and my private messages asking for updates they have since deleted their account.

I commissioned two bust badges to be worn at conventions of some of my characters. All I recieved out of it was a half-assed attempt at a sketch and some excuses as to why nothing had been done.

after not being able to be on the computer for a while I finally was able to go online and check in with the artists ive since commissioned just to find their page DELETED. And now I have no way of communication. Im trying thier paypal email address but.. man.. this really sucks.

What did then happen?
- Ive filed a dispute with paypal (fingers crossed) and reached out to the email address they used on paypal.. At this point I can see this is a scam and Id really just like my money back.

EDIT(11/17/2013): found her on DA after a little searching this evening. Im 100% positive its her as the art, name, and art are ALL exactly the same from FA, and theres a name "synnie" which corresponds to her Paypal email address.. also note the name in white glitch writing on the left side of the screen.. hmm.. D1sease?
http://i.imgur.com/N4U0XPd.png

after scrolling the page I found her queue where my name isnt listed..
http://i.imgur.com/4XC1xpI.png

So I shot her a message on DA.. now we wait...

EDIT(11/18/2013): I was just notified ON FA by D1sease

http://i.imgur.com/vo8YOy6h.png
(she stated she had sent me a "few" Wip's and since I never said to proceed she didnt work on my commission. Never had I asked to be sent approval sketches, nor was it relayed in a message that i had to approve anything. Naturally I thought this was just a WORK IN PROGRESS picture sent to me just to see where the commission was going)

So I responded http://i.imgur.com/GF5vmO6h.png

(basically I stated that after ONE wip sent to me 3 weeks ago with no note about approval i just assumed it would have been completed. ESPECIALLY since she said the piece was actually supposed to be completed one month ago today.)

we'll see where this goes now.

EDIT(11/19/2013)
Received two notes on FA one of which stated a refund was issued. Confirmed paypal dispute has been closed. Im honestly sad that it had to come to this. D1sease's art is really REALLY good and I would have loved to gone through with the commission. But when you come back a month later with nothing to show for, and no means of communication (except lurking the internet in hopes of finding a secondary account)I felt my trust was violated. I've been scammed COUNTLESS times and I really dont take lightly to it anymore.

Filing the dispute is good. Right thing to do.

The account is Disabled, not Deleted. FA does not allow accounts to be deleted.

You can check any disabled account's other pages (gallery, scraps, journals, etc) by placing the name of what you want to look at in place of 'user' in the URL. Not sure if you can comment or note them. Never tried to.

https://www.furaffinity.net/journals/d1sease/

In this case, 4 days ago they posted a journal that they'll be gone until the 19th.

I still strongly recommend against cancelling that dispute. It's unlikely you'll get your art.

Given Paypal only gives you 45 days to file the dispute, you don't have many options. Wait much longer and you've lost all bargaining power and your only shot at getting your money back.

Yes, please keep the dispute open until you receive your work; even if they say on DA they will do it, I would still leave the dispute open until you get the art and are satisfied.
I believe once the artist disabled their FA and bailed on their customers without letting them know why, or their new contact info they forfeited their right to your trust.

Honestly I would just take your money and just don't even bother. There are plenty of other artists who will give you more bang for your buck in a timely manner.

Whenever I see an artist disable their page, leave and come back a week later, and what have you, I just don't even bother. It's so unprofessional it hurts.

Terribly sorry, but thankfully you've got paypal on your side. They ALWAYS favor the buyer.

Very glad you got the money back!

Are you really serious?

D1sease has been trying to contact you forever and you haven't responded. You've filed a dispute without any sort of real reason. You need to get in touch with her RIGHT NOW.

Who are you and are you able to talk for the artist? From OP's post I see no notion of being communicated with, and if the artist has another story and proof they contacted the OP more than seen here, they are welcome to come and tell their side.

"You need to get in touch with her RIGHT NOW."
So far as I can see, the point to the OPs post is that they have no way of communicating with the artist, so how do you advise they go about contacting her?

I'd just like to pop in that artists send out wip sketches to make sure everything is okay, always respond. Most artists will not continue work until a response it gotten.

I know when I send out approval sketches I make sure to mention something like 'Let me know if you want any changes and I'll finish this up' or the like, but I guess I could see that some artists might not think to make it clear. It might be best to reply with even just a 'looks good!' just to be on the safe side from now on, I suppose.

I'll agree that a "looks good/ok" is very nice to get, even if it's just a WiP and not directly asking for approval. I always worry there is something wrong if my commissioner won't say if it's either good or bad.

I consider the WIPs that I show to my clients to be the same as approval sketches, and I will NOT continue until I get their approval. I don't want to be 10 hours into a piece to be told "she needs bigger breasts, longer hair, bigger ears, a fluffier tail".

This. I send a WIP for the purpose of making sure it's what the client wants. If they just send a 'looks good!' that's approval enough for me to continue work.

I think many people forget that communication is important from both sides when you are doing business. It's just a good idea to communicate with the artist and at least let them know how it looks.

As a commissioner myself regardless of whether the artist is asking for approval, I think it's just good manners to at least acknowledge you've received the message. I don't think that's an excuse for this artist but it may be something to consider in the future.

As a commission artist it makes me really uncomfortable when customers do not respond to WIPS or even finished pieces (though finished products can be more common and dismissed). We would really prefer you acknowledge that you received it on your end even if you want changes or not, just to know you even got it and we didn't miss-send it on error. Most artists will not continue art without approval of WIPs sent to clients.

Weather the artist says so or not it might be mentioned in their TOS that they may pause and not continue art until WIP has been approved. So please check before you assume and dismiss an artist because they want your feedback. Normally they don't send a WIP then just go willy-nilly and you end up wanting changes. That makes it harder on us.

Honestly, when I send a WIP I expect some sort of response. Even just a "Looks good!" or "Thumbs up!" is enough. Teekchan is right, a majority of artists won't move forward without a reply about the WIP unless it's clearly stated they don't need it. This is my personal observation as both an artist and a long-standing client to other artists. I know not everyone works this way, but it's safe to assume a WIP generally means "Hows it look so far?"

My apologies!

Hi there, I'm d1sease from FA!

First off, I truly want to apologize for this whole fiasco. It was unprofessional for me, definitely, to disable my page that way. I had posted a journal about why it was disabled, to both my FA and dA, but I can understand that those things can easily get looked over. >.< I figured when you found my dA, you would have seen the journal. My bad on that part. I should have noted you with other ways to contact me, especially since I was away from home for a week at that time.

As for not putting you on my dA queue, I tend to forget to update that list with people from my FA commission list. I tend to keep separate lists for different sites so I am not easily confused.

One thing that I am mildly annoyed about, (please do not take this as an attack, I promise it isn't meant to be!) is that I never would have known that the refund went through if I wasn't linked to this A_B post by a friend of mine. I sent you a note on FA asking you to please confirm when you got the refund, to which, it was read, but never responded to.

Note: http://i.imgur.com/UmCH6aW.png
Outbox: http://i.imgur.com/Q6eSFYU.png (showing the note was read)

I also sent you numerous notes on dA, but I know you're not active there as you said, so no worries on not responding to those!

Once again, I truly do apologize, and I'll keep in mind to be more clear when I send WIPs of artwork to my future clients! I generally tend to wait for a response towards the WIP before I continue doing a piece, so incase the commissioner wants a change, I can do it still while the sketch is still fresh. :) I should probably update my TOS with that for future reference! x_x

Even if you write a journal about why you've disabled your page, it still takes a bugged workaround in order to see that journal.

I'm glad to see that you're working this out with the OP, however. That's always nice for us mods to see (8

Also, I am curious.. the refund has been issued, will this be marked as resolved? Just wondering!

It appears the OP confirms the dispute is closed by refund, so yes, I can go ahead and mark this as resolved.

I'd recommend in the future to directly contact your customers if you remove or change accounts; journals are a very poor way of keeping customers up to date, especially with critical information like account changes.

I assume this is unrelated to the beware itself. Please take this to PMs and out of the community if you have your own issue with the OP.
