-I requested a refund on August 8th via email, this is the entire conversation.
-This journal was posted to FA acknowledging that folks was refunds, but she doesn't have the money to refund us. Not wanting to pester her, I just sat back and waited for her to get back to me. When I saw her post a journal about attending a NIN concert, I left another comment inquiring about my refund. She has not responded to that comment, or at all since her email August 8th 2013.

EXPLAIN: While I understand her life has been hectic, I have my own things to take care of, and the lack of communication isn't very comforting. :/ I'd really just like a prompt refund.

I'm in the same boat with her. Would really just like an update, and a refund if she doesn't feel she can do it. She's a nice girl and I know she has been having some issues for a while with the whole living situation, but no one likes to be kept in the dark. Best of luck to us and the others on the Rust Artist list there.

I will never understand why artists only care about the money. I have felt soul-crushing guilt for taking so long on commissions. I just don't get it.

I will never understand artists spending money they were paid for a commission before delivering the finished work. Until the transaction is complete on both sides, that money isn't technically theirs.
So many of these situations could be avoided easily with communication and not spending money you haven't earned until you've done the work.

That's how I feel, really. Unless the artist blatantly tells me there are no refunds before I've paid, I'm really not okay with them spending my money before the transaction is completed and I'm satisfied with my product. :/

Unfortunately a lot of the time people open up for commissions because they need the money for something (i.e. rent, food, car etc). They spend the money and tend to forget that because the cash is instant, they actually havnt done anything to earn it yet. And then they lose the motivation to actually complete the work. It would be like your boss giving you your months wages before you worked them. You've already been paid so you dont have the basic motivation to do the work.
I do however completely agree with you that artists shouldnt spend the money until they have actually 'worked' for them but that takes will power some people dont have.

Most times I tend to avoid 'emergency commissions'. My instinct is to help the person out, but I know that there's a higher risk of them biting off more than they can chew and my commission turning into a reluctant donation.
Ezra's Rust artist wasn't posted in a way that read to me as a emergency commission deal, which is why I felt comfortable buying the two spots. :/

Let me just clear up a few things.

First off, I have made various journal entries about my situation at the moment. During these commissions we were forced out of our apartment and went practically homeless for a good few months. Second, I had made note that during the move I had lost my tablet and was in the process of finding a new one. I've had no internet and I have currently been working my ass off to try and get back to everyone and make money for my own medical bills and regular bills which we can barely afford at the moment and just generally trying to get everything back together (finally finding my tablet only a few days ago). I had previously told this commissioner that I would TRY to see if I can round up the money to pay them back even though I was not offering refunds on these. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and I'm currently trying to fix this situation that I'm currently going through :/

My concern is the lack of response I've received from August 8th until December 4th. I sent a couple of emails and left a couple of comments, but neither were answered. I understand you're having financial problems, I have my own to take care of. I don't appreciate my requests for updates being ignored.
The note you sent me on Dec. 4th says "Anyway, I'm trying to scrape up as much cash as I can find so I'll be refunding you $10 now and $10 in a matter of days when I can get some more money in the bank." Not meaning to be combative, but it's now the 6th. I'm a bit confused what your time frame is for 'now' in the regard used in the note.

I was homeless and living on the streets for two years, trying to find food to eat. Sleeping in rain and snow was tough. Being 'technically' homeless is no excuse to offer no communication with anyone, especially when you have a way to get online or ARE online.

Because I take commissions myself, I sympathize with you, but only to an extent. There is no excuse for not contacting someone who has paid you already over and over, as much as possible to reassure them they're still in your thoughts.

There is NO excuse for not getting help with replying to hundreds of people, if you have to deal with hundreds of them. Your tough situation is tough, but it doesn't excuse you being disrespectful to people. That's my opinion.
