WHO: Hopeie, Hope, Chenayah Frahm

WHERE: Furaffinity -http://www.furaffinity.net/user/hopeie/

WHAT: Customer didn’t paid for custom plushie, that she ordered from me, after my work was finished and she saw a result.

WHEN: Plushie was finished at 13’th of November.
PROOF:

EXPLAIN: In beginning of august Hopeie wrote to me, asking to produce two custom plushies for her. Her fursona, and sona of her boyfriend. I didn’t have all materials to do the so I delayed the work, she agreed for it. I have one rule, i trust my clients so they pay when I finish the work, and client approve that the work was done as he wanted. In middle time client can make minor changes to project, to receive what he want. Hopeie ordered two of them, and later, by her personal matter, she changes her order for just one custom made plushie. – I didn’t forced her to cancel the order, and also I tell her, that it’s okay if she just resign. I understand, really, what she was feeling in that moment, but now… I’m not obsessed to retrieve my money here and now. I can wait even a six months, but I really want to know this. I hate people that lie. She write to me that she will pay after week. Now that passed more than twice of this time, and I didn’t see my money. Client still reading notes, but not answering them. Just ignoring me till I start to threat her with consequences of not paying me and pay no attention to my messages. I don’t believe that I get money back for the job, so I need to warn others to not giving her trust about commissions, cause it’s real danger to not getting your money for your work. So just stay away from this person, or tell to pre-pay for your work.

Just as a note:

The person who commissioned you lists themselves as 15 years old on their page. Legally they cannot commission you, or enter a contract with you. I would avoid this individual and chalk this as a loss. If they are using a parent's card or Paypal, you risk a chargeback. Completing a commission and accepting money from them is putting you at a huge risk.

She also wrote in a journal her mother may be putting $615 into her Paypal. I don't want to chalk this as suspicious, but I would not want to pursue business with a 15 year old who apparently may have $600 that I cannot verify the source of. Or enter a contract where I have no legal leg to stand on if it goes sour.

Also the journal title itself is rather disturbing itself since that something that shouldn't be made public and they are 15.

Yes...the content of some of their journals is alarming. As well as this acquisition of money and their admittance of commissioning without being able to afford pieces.

I can't read the screencaps.

For the future though, don't do business with a minor.

Other option is to right click, copy image location(url), and then go to the direct image.

Thirding what's already been said...don't do business with minors.

Also adding you might want to change your policy to not doing the work without receiving at least half payment up front. Especially with stuff where you have to buy custom materials so you're out money as well as time.

Can you resell the product you made for her to someone else?

Uuuuuugh, Hopeie is also a massive thief.

She recolours a TON of lineart which is not listed as lineart that is free to edit, often without citing the source, passing it off as her own. I warned her the first few times, but she'd just hide comments, delete/re-upload, hop accounts. I have filed at least a dozen tickets for her and every account she's had in the past, but FA and trouble tickets.

Seriously, I'm actually happy someone posted about her now.
She's been at this for well over a year, I think she might also have been "15" for over a year now.

Also she is not handling this well at all. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5384138/

Plus the fact she also owes other people commissions as well which should come as a red flag.

And some of their other journals are pretty disturbing as well.

I have worked with minors before--some kids know what they want and will save up for it--but it's always been in person, paid with cash, with a parent or other authority figure present, and for smaller/cheaper items that I could easily resell if the kid doesn't come through with the money.

In general though, I agree, doing business with minors is risky. A minor using Paypal is an instant red flag for me. Too many ways that can go wrong.

I'm sorry you had to deal with this. I'm glad you were able to sell the plushy though.

Just gonna point out... while it might seem unfair to say "don't ever do business with minors", it's not because minors are 100% unreliable. It's because they are legally unable to enter into a business contract, and as a result, you have no way of getting your money back or anything if they DO screw you over.

I'm not disagreeing. That's why I'll only do work for them if I know the parent knows what's going on. Still doesn't mean I'd get my money back if something happened, but it does greatly decrease the chance that the kid will try to skip with the money or try to borrow money they have no business borrowing. It's still a risk, yes, but for certain types of work I do it's a risk I'm okay with (simple beaded bracelets, sure; large oil painting, no way).

Oh yeah! :) Just tacking it on there for those who don't know more than anything! But yeah, generally if I were going to do work for a minor, I'd require it be paid by the parents and that they be involved in the transaction.
