WHAT: Bidder backed out of a YCH because they were outbid in one of the spots they bid on.

EXPLAIN: I posted this YCH on April 21st, 2014. (It's nsfw) And Zealot_Elite bid on both spots and was currently leading on both until they were outbid. (They put down $33 on Spot A and $33 on Spot B, but were outbid when Spot B got to $40) Once they were outbid they left me a comment, as you can see in the Proof section, saying that they wanted to have both spots but because they were outbid in one of the spots they'd rather back out and that the runner-up have the spot instead.

In my rules as you can see I have written that you ARE NOT allowed to back out of bids. But they tried to twist my following rule, the "If the winner doesn't pay I will either ask the runner up if they are interested or repost the auction." to benefit them saying that that rule allowed them not to pay. That rule is in place for when a person fake bids and end up winning, and when I contact them they never reply because they never intended to pay in the first place. In that instance I do ask the runner up if they want to pay for it or I will repost if they don't want to. (Because I give no obligation to the runner-ups to pay, I only ask them if they would like to and are allowed to say no.)

So in the end they preferred to be blocked than to pay. I am posting this Beware just so people will be aware of this person just in case they pull something like this on another artist.

Maybe you would benefit from refining your TOS further? I can see from his point how he could skew it, but still, he's breaking your terms regardless. Maybe have a clause in there that clarifies your definition of a winner backing out, and what will happen if individuals intentionally back out of bids like that.

Yes I was thinking of how I could clarify that second rule further. For things such as emergencies or people just plain fake bidding. So I will refine that in future YCHs.

Because really, if you do explain to me like something came up, they have to buy medicine for their cat. I have to take their word for it and let it slide. (And then watch if they keep doing it or not) But just backing out because they were upset they didn't win both slots is just...no.

This isn't the first time this user has done this. They backed out of a three spot YCH I was hosting a couple years ago, when one of the winning characters was a character they deemed 'ugly'. I wouldn't have minded so much, had they not been the first to bid, and bid a lot higher than the the starting price, so I had no runner up to fall back on.

Oh gosh well that's quite unfortunate I'm sorry that happened to you but mostly glad because I now know to definitely not allow him back ever.

I love how the used the excuse that because they paid for a YCH once before that they're allowed to slip out.

He really should just ask the artist if he can buy all slots outright if he doesn't want to be paired with strangers/"ugly" characters, rather than take a chance on bidding. :/

Exactly, plus both slots had autobuys on them so he could have taken both if he wanted, not complain that he stopped winning.

I don't understand what is so hard about not bidding if you're not serious.
