Looking for advice: Requesting a refund from an artist

I wasn't sure if I should have mentioned this in the title so I felt it was better to keep it in the body. Essentially I'm considering requesting a refund from an artist due to having to wait several months for having a commissioned piece done. However what's troubling me is that the artist says they are suffering from depression and that they are doing what they can to get mine and other works done. I'm not sure of what to do here cause I feel like if I ask for refund, a whole new set of issues are going to arise from it and that I might be causing the artist more grief on top of their current situation. So I'm a bit lost of what to do.

Ask for one via email. Despite what they have you are entitled to the work or refund. If you worry for their grief maybe work out a refund payment plan that way you can still get your money back and its not as stressful.

I dont think they should take new work if they now they get stress from it.It just adds on more tbh

I get the same way at times and cant even work and its best to not add more work load with commissions and sometimes even refund clients with a discount for the wait(they usually want the work and don't mind waiting but I never know when I would feel better so I just don't feel good making them wait longer) so if they choose to come back they get percentage off for being so patient and understanding. But that's just me. Hopefully this all works out.
