Yesterday while browsing DA I was mysteriously misdirected to a site trying to harm my computer.
Later I found out it was an exploit in the flash code of the Deviant Art ad space http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/05/28/0138247 , Deviant Art is having loading issues for me afterwards and I am worried about compromised security. I am just warning people to be careful when browsing as these attacks continue and don't lose your data :)
Stay protected.

Yes, about twice now during the past week I've visited on my (banned) account, and both times have had to entirely reset my computer do to a pop-under-pop-up-whatever that was for an "xp scanner". I'm on a mac...

Jeebus, what browser are you using? I'd imagine Firefox wouldn't cause a Mac to just die!

how do i know if my machine is hurt? I did get some annoying pop ups of "omg you can be in danger go download this scanning antvirus thing"
or at least I think it was deviant art.

If you're worried, I suggest downloading AdAware. It's free and easy to use. It should be one of the standard programs on your computer and run at least once a month. :)

I downloaded firefox's adblock and it disables 99% of DA's ads and scripts. It also disables certain flash videos on Neopets, which is helpful.

If you're not too keen on firefox, maybe there's an equivalent in the browser you use.

That's scary. I hope DA fixes it soon.

I'm assuming that since the problem is in DeviantArt's ad space, I'll be safe enough while I'm using Firefox extensions NoScript, FlashBlock, and AdBlock, not to mention a paid account that doesn't display ads in the first place.

My paid account is running out in a few days... I hope they fix it before then!

This is an issue with all flash in general and has yet to be patched.

Your best bet is to get noscript if you're using firefox

Noscript tends to take care of these things for me. It's a pain in the ass to whitelist as you start using it, but it's worth it in the long run.
