faking your own death to avoid paying back your commissioners is just... wow. i can't believe anyone would attempt something as drastic as that just so that they could have a cheap and easy way out of something like that. talk about toying with your friends' emotions, too. yeesh. :/

i really do hope that his customers somehow get their money back from Pogo in the end, or at least PR recieves some form of action against him. this whole thing really is beyond insane.

Um, no, I majored in journalism. Obits are usually posted THE NEXT DAY, unless information was not readily available at time of press. But, since most news is Interbutts-based these days anyway, there'd be a posting within 24 hours.

Especially if he were killed by a drunk driver. That's top local news - even more so in rural areas like southern Illinois (where he claims to reside).

I spent a good hour this afternoon, trying to find an obit - or any mention of a drunk driving accident on the 19th - and came up with jack shit. Worst of all, I LIKED the guy's art, and I actually felt really sad for him until suspicions were aroused.

Indeed, no news here in Il. about any drunk driving incident. That stuff usually comes up pretty damn quick. I'm a little more northern, but on the channels here we never get any news related to our own communities- it's always southern Illinois or Chicago. =/

I have never really seen furries as the bottom of the totem pole though. I've always disagreed with the geek hierarchy graph. Personally, I think Lolicon Sickos are BOTTOM. But that's a sub-genre that can exist within any genre of fandom. loli-furries still creep me out, Loli anything actually!

I've been following this for the past 12 hours with great humor and I must say that this is the most amazingly epic fail I've ever seen. This surpasses everything. I've seen and heard it all from broken computers to severe injuries to incredible illness, but this is the first time I've ever encountered someone faking their own death to get out of commission work.
What makes me laugh is that they couldn't have left it well enough alone, but they had to make a couple sock puppets to corraborate the story and be blatantly obvious about it.

If you wanted to escape commissioners and drop out of the fandom -- just drop out of the fandom.

Change e-mail, change journals, change cell phone numbers (if you gave them out), let your galleries rot, and just lurk under new accounts if you want to still know what's going on still. Why the ruse? Who is going to send a private investigator at you for a badge commission after all?

I agree with many here -- this individual clearly loves the attention; why else fake a death instead of, you know... just letting it all go.

I really hate to admit I was completely fooled by this. I even made an entry lamenting about how sad it was to loose him. I was going to commission him with the money I have now in the bank as of yesterday, but now he won't see a dime of my money, and I'm thankful I waited before I forked over the money to him for a badge.

I really hate the fact he did this after I had been affected by a real personal tragedy, so I suppose I was more susceptible to believing it.
I feel like a fucking tool now, but at least I still have the money I would have wasted on on him for a commission.

I've been watching and reading the lulz for sometime now. I've known about Grant since 2006. While I was lucky enough to just be a witness and not an actual victim, it's really good to see that others know his true colors.
