What: An idea of color palette on my original character

When: Around September 2015

Proof: I ask my friend to use my money to send to her.

Explain: I commish to her based from this journal (in case of hide/ delete her evidence, check here), it was suppose to be full color commish, but then this conversation coming, not only block me at Deviantart, and block me at Skype afterward. I use PayPal reminder, but she keeps rejecting it.

EDIT 1: When I saw this, I knew that she have enough money to refund to me, but no, she reject at PayPal.

EDIT 2: Though it was unsatisfied, she's refund 20 USD along with the lineart to me. At this point this situation is resolved.

Instead of sending a Paypal money request, you need to do a chargeback on the payment you sent to them.

Wait, you gave her basically artistic freedom with the colors, after paying for a full color, and she just decides to do a lineart because she "didn't want [you] stealing [her] color ideas?" That's what I'm getting from it, and that is absolutely ridiculous.

I don't get it! You spent 30$ and yet she says you only spent 10$ lineart. That's just plain lying right there... Least you showed her the image where your friend paid her, right? (or she just ignored it or something?) But it's awesome you got screenshots of everything happening.

This is just.. so frustrating oh man. and not even refunding you and using said funds for another commission/something else instead of refunding, why... just why are you doing this.

Plus the blocking towards you, oh wow. Trying to put you under and forget the whole mess. So, so rude.

With other people on the comments, call paypal and let them know of the situation. "paid for xxx amount but didn't receive the right item" or something, the full value. or some other action.

My reading of this (http://imgur.com/ZLrGfUp) is that the artist took "the color is your own choice" as meaning "you can choose whether to have color at all", and therefore chose not to. This may have been confirmed in their mind by the fact that the commissioner said "Yes" to "it's 30 bucks either way?"

The problem is, the commissioner clearly meant "it's 30 bucks even though I'm not forcing you to use specific colors". They saw having the power to choose the colors as a bonus for the artist - not something that'd cost extra, or simply not be on offer at all.

The artist puts great value on the originality of color palettes in their work (https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=213924); this may translate into "figuring out colors for your character costs extra".

There seems to me alot of miscommunication on both parties here.
Honestly, the artist's best option is to refund the customer and leave it be. Beware warranted for asking for commissions instead of refunding the client.
OP should have clarified exactly what they were asking for.
It all seemed confusing to me. I not once got the impression OP was asking for a color palette to be made.

Communication is key. And if both parties are misunderstanding each other it is a situation best to be left alone.

Just for records, I would never suggest sending as Friends/Family/Gift. You will not be covered by paypal in case things go south.

As I said, sorry if I am missing anything it was all hard to understand.

Beware well warranted. There are some really bad things going on with this artist and that snarly response of hers isn't making the situation any better.

That $23 she wants to spend on Undertales commissions could go towards refunding her client. But it seems like buying art is more important to this artist than doing the right thing for her clients.

Yikes. Beware well warranted. That attitude, those inconsistent statements, and the mishandling of funds. They should just refund the 20 for lack of co,or and be done with it if they changed around their decision to color it.

Also I don't know where the artist gotten the idea color combos and design are copyrighted to them when they are not. That's not how the law works.

yikes! this is so awful. :S so sorry you had to deal with this, Andrew.

i can definitely see that there is a language barrier somewhat, but i don't understand why the artist is deciding to act this way. :S especially because OP's english is coherent enough that i can get the general gist of what's going on.

in the future, renee, it is really best to not spend money you earned from a commission until you've already finished your work. you haven't technically earned the money until then, and it can help you avoid situations like this.

Whenever I see comments jump from 17 to 90s, I just know the artist came in and shot themselves in the foot. And lo and behold here it is.

Beware more than warranted. The artists behavior here has been proof enough of that. Money should never be spent before work is done, cause thats not your money until you have exchanged your end of the product.

To tell other people to 'butt out' of a conversation when they are trying to help explain things in a nice attitude is also a huge red flag.

I sure hope the commissioner gets his money back ASAP.

2. I honestly think she tried to scam him due to 'language barrier'(i understood fine but that me). You dont have prices for lineart then charge for full colour.
3. Says shes confused. No, there are screen caps RIGHT THERE at the top.

Well then, this blew up.
Most of what I wanted to say have been said, but I also wonder about the context of the "don't worry about it" /"don't worry about the money". I'm currently doing a rather larger commission and I went over my guesstimated time - in which the commissioner replied "Don't worry about it", now that doesn't mean I suddenly don't have to do it, but just that they are ok with me going over the time as long as I keep working on it and still get it done.

Also the artist's continuous use of the word "drama" - the mods of this community works really hard to keep false facts, drama and in general snark out of this place, so the only drama is the one you bring in with yourself.

That said I do hope the artist cools off and comes back in a more professional way a second time, with proof to backup what they say.

I think my biggest beef here, apart form the artist's terrible attitude is the fact that A) They deliberately charged someone extra for something they never intended to do or B) When they realized they couldn't get away with it wouldn't refund the commissioner money they did have (20 dollars difference between lineart and full color/shade)

One more thing: Artists Beware is a public forum for people to either give advice to better yourself or criticize your work ethic. It's up to you with how you take it. No matter how many times you tell people to butt out, people have a say on the matter. The more you respond and make excuses, the worse you look. If you really are having issues, you should lay off of doing commissions either ever again, or until you're in a position to have painless transactions.

It seems like the matter is over and done with, but those comments, though o_O
