Hey all. I just joined after being burned, so I thought I'd warn ya.

At this year's AC, I commissioned Matt Burt (GunMouth on DA, Badvibes on Yerf) on the second day of the con for two conbadges. He said he'd have it done in half an hour or so. So I come back later, and he's not working on it. "Come back later," he keeps saying. Whenever I come back to his table, he's working on everyone else's stuff but mine. People are handing him sketchbooks to draw in, and he jumps to those first. On the last day of the con, I told him that he'd better have them done soon, because I wasn't staying all day and had a bus to catch. "Oh, I guess I'd better get started then," he said, pulling out a pad that had only one of the badge's pencils done. I caught up with him after the dealer's room closed, and gave him my address to mail the badges to when he was done. That was in July. I've since talked to him on AIM, and he keeps saying the same thing over and over again... "I'll get right on it." He had two full days at the con, and two months since then to do what only takes most artists an hour or less.

At this point I'd just ask for my money back, but I'm sure "he'll get right on that."

"Badvibes" is an appropriate name. Skip GunMouth.

LOL
i know how Matt can be ;3
I had an art trade with him in 01 or so, and he didnt start my half until this past AC :P~~ it was on the very last day, right as i was leaving, and he hadn't finished shading it >.>
he's a fairly busy artist.. though true that con assignments should be done ASAP, whoever you are.

*nods* Yes, it is vexing. But... well.. sometimes, people prioritize differently. and no matter who you are, being at the bottom of that list sucks :/
i know im no angel when it comes to that either, but i DO tie up any loose ends eventually >.<

Slow and Steady Don't Always Win

This is something I run into at every con.

Hi everyone, my name's Matt Burt as you all may have guessed. I am one of those bums who refuses to get a job 'cuz I believe I can survive on my art alone. If anyone else is in that same boat, shame on you!

Anyway, not that this is a good excuse, but it's what I got, and I ain't got any better... I always get people like this thanks to all the sketchbooks people hand me. Sure, everyone else can fling out sketchbooks superfast, but it takes me time to do all my inking. Holy shit does it take me a long time! And the bitch of it all is that the people want their sketchbooks back ASAP so they can get other artists to draw in it before the con is over. I had one guy at this past Mephit who was extreely mad at me for getting his book to him just as the con ended. Heck, I have people from other cons that still don't have their pics.

I guess I'm doing this all the wrong way. You see, it takes a long time for me to finish a picture, and artist block never helps. And even at home I'm constantly taking on new commissions to keep the money flowing. In other words, I have a constant pile of commissions that keeps growing. What can I say? I'm slow...

...but I ALWAYS get them done...

Everyone... EVERYONE who commissions me WILL get their drawing. If yer lucky, and I get it done for you at a con, then pat yourself on the back! If you didn't get yours within the timeframe you desired, I'm terribly sorry, but for now that's the way things are until I can get up to Fred Perry speed.

If you don't like it, then accept your picture and don't commission me again if you so wish. Please do not go spreading my name over random internet message boards behind my back...

Meanwhile Meeba, send me your address again. Yours and Imp's badges have been done, but I have been traveling all over the damn place this summer, leaving most completed commissions safe at home.
...but that is another story.
