artists_bewareI feel this is an appropriate place to post this, but if for any reason this is offtopic at all I apologize. The creator of This Webpage has illegally reposted and altered dozens of images from artists who never gave him permission (including myself). I can list Katarina, Huskie, Megan Giles, Synnabar, Ashryn, Arphalia, Michelle Light and many others whose art has been yoinked and reposted here for this guy's own pleasure. Granted, not all of the images are altered, but most if not all are reposted without permission and without credit.
Normally I don't have a problem with people posting my art on their site, it's free publicity if they credit me. I didn't have a problem with this very situation until I exchanged a series of emails with him recently.
It begins with me sending a note of concern. If he wants to repost images he ought to have the artist's permission.
I caught wind of your smoking furs page on yahoo and noticed my work on
there: http://aelfhame.net/~smokingfurry/Jody.jpg Unlike other artists that
have probably contacted you, I don't mind if it's there. However, for
future reference you should talk to the original artists before putting up
their work. If you can't get a hold of them, don't post it. A lot of
artists are picky about that, I consider it good publicity though (so long
as things aren't altered). One thing you should do is post credit for each
artist. I noticed you have an "added" date, you could just post the
artist's name and gallery link there for reference. This will quell worries
other artists have about you posting their work. I know I want my name by
my work wherever it is. If for some reason you can't or won't put up
credit, please take my piece down. It does me no good to have an anonymous
image up. Thanks for listening, hope you haven't gotten to much trouble
from other artists.

Most of the art I have here I've had for years making it impossible to
identify the original artists and get permission from them. In fact I'm
willing to bet most of the artists whose works are shown here would not be
happy about it because smoking is rather taboo subject. Purging all the
artwork which I don't have permission for would shrink the size of my
gallery to a handful of images that most visitors have probably already
seen before. I figure my gallery is not any worse than the millions of
other websites that use images they did not have permission for (both
pornographic and non).
I can add your work to the fan submitted/created page, just tell me what
information you want below it (name, email, homepage, etc...)

I can certainly understand that you may have had these images for a long
time and don't want to go through the trouble to find the original artists.
I don't think the artists would feel bad about you reposting their art
because smoking is a "taboo" subject. In fact I believe that if they are
willing to create a character who is smoking and post it publicly they have
absolutely no problem with it. They have more of a reason to be upset
because you reposted without ever consulting them.
I think it's disrespectful of you to leave them up without permission just
because you don't want to go through that trouble. Sure you'd loose some
images because you couldn't find the original artists, but there is plenty
of smoking furry art on the net, you can find it from it's original source
and ask for repost permission. Since you feel it's unessicary to attempt to
make your actions right by the artists featured in your gallery, I wish to
have my art removed. Please take it down as soon as possible. For future
submissions, please contact the original artist if you wish to avoid this
kind of thing.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I can't remove your art from my page, the best I can do is add it to the fan art page, if I remove it for one person I'll have to remove it for everybody and I'm not about to do that.

If, by the laws of nature, you were not able to remove my art from your page I would understand. However it seems you are simply unwilling to comply. What you are doing is against the law. If you do not take my art down from your page, I will report you to your webhost and they will shut your site down permanently. Remove my image as soon as you are able to if you do not wish this to happen.

There's a lot to go through, even the fan pages. I was fortunate to only have one piece reposted without my permission, but others much more ripped from their sites and galleries. With this person's apparent noncompliance to regard the original artists' wishes, I'd be on the look out.

Oh, I LOVE this. He's essentially saying, "Well, if I asked they'd say no, so I'm just not gonna ask". Dickwad. I can't wait until half the artists in the furry fandom come down on him like a ton of bricks. ~_~

at least he's not claiming all the drawings to be his own creations. THAT would get him lynched. >:|

Apparently, this person is a member or visitor to the YERF forums. This version of the image was in the YERF coloring thread where I posted this line art and someone else colored it. He obviously stole it from there, unless the person who colored it posted it somewhere.
Ya know, I really have no problem with people posting my art to their websites as long as they are not making a profit off my art or editing it, neither of which this guy is doing. I STILL wish he'd asked me first, and bothered to find a name for it, and even though he didn't do it to mine It bothers me that he has the audacity to edit OTHER people's artwork. Completely careless and lazy individual. I hope he gets his site taken down because of that.
"I don't have time to hunt down the artists" indeed.... Just go through the YERF or VCL archives, most of that stuff can be found there. It's NOT hard

I would have them looking at his site and then deleting it after they realize that he has stolen artwork from other sites who's artists stated please get permission from me before you post the images onto your website.
