artists_bewareNot a commissioner since he doesn't have the money to pay most people, I tangled with this guy about a year or so back.
Long story short, he joined one of the groups I moded on Yahoo and started advertising for a crusade against all adult art, I replied that it was up to artists what they drew. We chatted for a while, he seems okay aside from having a strange mad on for getting rid of all adult art.
Anyway eventually he got my msn name and we talked a bit more, he kept insisting he was part of this oh so secret police force that tracked down pedophiles online, I just rolled my eyes and let him waffle, eventually he started talking about this rpg he wanted to do and would I do some art for it, by this point he was pretty much a friend so I said I'd do a couple of pieces when I had time.
Then he gave me some character descriptions, from day one I was practically designing the characters as I went along, fed up I asked for a contract to stipulate what I was and was not doing and he went ape starting screaming I was betraying him and said I would be easy to replace, pfft as if he's going to find any artist with more than basic skills to do 50+ illustrations for nothing.
He started ranting and raving said he was going to get his secret police friends to frame me and stuff, so I blocked him, haven't talked to him since, none of the threats have materialised either.
In summary, just generally watch out for Digital Flyboy or mercury_command, the guy's okay at first but is hiding the loss of a few marbles.

He said there was no such thing as a secret police and that you were after all his game designing ideas. Saying that you wanted ownership of the whole game and its ideas as you were doing the artwork for it.
I'm not saying that I believe either one of you as I have no idea who either of you are, but it sure is a story with completely different sides being told here.
You also said on another LJ community that you knew Pink Fairy Lotus in real life. -Which confuses me, as she's never met you.

Unless you haven't noticed I've got hundreds of character ideas of my own and entire world I'm busy writing a storyline in order to turn into a comic, his ideas consisted of bog standard fantasy art that I added twists and turns onto. I asked for a contract to ensure he wouldn't use my artwork beyond what it was intended for, he went ape without even checking to see what I wanted, it's a pretty standard thing especially since the free art extended and got bigger as the whole thing went on. I'm not made of time, I had to have a point where I could say woah no more, I even offered to do all the damn layouts for him after his layout person pulled out.
I don't generally work with tabletop RPG's, last thing I did was design an entire race for warhammer (unofficially of course) wrote their story and everything but I had to get a friend to help me with the strategy because my skills don't lie that way, hence his little rpg would be a bunch of character designs to me nothing more. I've got tonnes of those including the ones he wanted me to alter for the rpg which was another reason I asked for a contract so it was clearly defined what art of mine he could and couldn't use, I was after his designs? more like he was after mine.
Let see he had, clerics...dragon knights and a few other human lots that you'll find anywhere in most rpgs, I designed the lizard race sheets full of npc critters and a few other things. So basically at the end of it, I designed the unique characters, he was doing the basic characters...and even with those I did things like gave them armour designs, I never saw his game engine so I couldn't really steal that, pray tell what would I steal? names? generic characters you'd find in any warcraft game?
Uhuh, I could probably dig up the logs where he threatens me with the secret police he now claims no longer exists. He's lucky I didn't take the whole thing to the real cops and let them investigate him especially after he tried to pester me into joining this 'mercury command' group and going under cover at cub art.
Er no, I think you mis-remember, I have not met pinkfairylotus in real life nor have I ever claimed to have done so. I know she lives in the same country as me though.
Either way, I've got no real reason to lie, what did I get out of the whole thing? A bunch of generic character sketches I've long since binned or consigned to oblivion, a heap of hassle. what's he got to get by lying? 'Revenge' because I dared to laugh at his threats and pulled the plug on the whole thing. *shrugs*
Either way I'm warning people that this guy is trouble. Even if you don't believe me, be on your guard at least.

Date: 2004-10-25 04:21 pm (UTC)Well if you honestly want more info my msn is dawn_mckenna@hotmail.com, I'll show you what he gave me as the basis for his 'game' complete with D and D rip offs and the design sketches that he provided that I had to seriously rework because they were so inept.
It's not like he can bitch about me redistributing it, it's hardly original.

Date: 2004-10-25 02:10 pm (UTC)Oh yeah and btw did he tell you he ripped off Dungeons and dragons for those ideas, I keep records of a lot of stuff I work on, I just yanked the files and found his notes about the 'basic' races using D and D modifiers and stuff.
Only thing he 'created' was a buncha gods which were based mostly on standard gods from things like the greek pantheon.
I've also got his character sketches, and they're a big whoop lemme tell you, generic samurai wannabes, generic fox morph and I think the last was supposed to be a lizard type creature but it lacks any notes or effort so I'm unsure.
In short his 'ideas' were so bad that I was redesigning the character bases and the rest was ripped from D and D manuals.
Yeah I want his ideas...like a hole in my head.
