[identity profile] jebboy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware

So basically I've decided to start selling photoshop brushes I've made. However I am unsure how to do a TOS for them, what would be a fair price for me and the buyer, and where I can post them without worrying about the sets disappearing but also having a way to link or send them to someone who purchases one.

I also am confused about how to advertise them or where to post them so people see it.

Currently I have a set of 5 brushes made from one base ready for selling and I am working on a light ray themed brush set now. I currently only have paypal available to take payment but I'd be open to other suggestions for online money transactions as long as they can be started for free.

Any advice would be super helpful right now.

If you're on DA there's a sell option for digital work. There's no download until you pay and no way for the buyer to do a chargeback.

The down side is that it's in points so you have to charge 100 per $1 you want out and you have to be a core member to cash out.

I know there are other places that do digital sales, but I don't know any well enough to name them.

For value and likely links to some of those sites, I'd browse
http://www.deviantart.com/browse/all/resources/applications/psbrushes/?order=15
Though point based costs tend to be ridiculously low because 1500 sounds like a lot.

The other one is gumroad but that's more of a professional platform considering some of the stuff that is sold there.

Unfortunately that's how it is now with DA the membership used to be nearly $30 bucks for a year membership before the drama that happened with the core change. It's was quite a big deal with a lot of the complaints about it.

Weebly has an edownload feature on their site, but it runs rather pricey considering you may not be doing a whole lot of sales.

I noticed someone was using e-junkie which charges $5 a month for usage.

That's definitely understandable! I personally am looking into selling adoptable bases so I'm in the same boat you are. There doesn't seem to be a lot of sites geared towards accepting payment and allowing the user to download while you get a payout.

If all else fails you can upload your work to tumblr, DA, etc with instructions on how to pay you and you can manually send the items out.

Payment suggestions

How you take payments depends in large part what country you're hoping to take payments from/to. Similar online money transfer options for those in the USA include Google Wallet (https://www.google.com/wallet/) and Dwolla (https://refer.dwolla.com/a/clk/1ZN6N7).

If you're looking to start taking Bitcoin, you don't technically need a third-party, but you might consider a provider such as CoinBase (https://www.coinbase.com/join/GreenReaper) for support in converting that into other currencies.

Bank transfers can also be surprisingly flexible nowadays, and in some cases are integrated into mobile payment systems, e.g. the UK's Paym (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paym). It probably isn't useful for this particular case, but most will also accept checks or postal orders sent directly to the bank for payment to your account. [And if you don't have a bank account, get one - or consider credit unions, which often have lower fees.]

International payments involving currency exchange can be a problem due to fees. For larger payments, services such as TransferWise (https://transferwise.com/u/ceaf0) or XeTrade (www.xe.com/xetrade) can make sense, as they tend to offer better rates than PayPal.

http://gumroad.com/ is where I see others put up resources like this for sale. You can set up prices easily and choose which payment way you want.

Freden sells photoshop and manga studio brushes online, and it looks like he uses Shopify.

This is his shop: http://frenden.myshopify.com/ so you can see how he sets it up.

And this is the main site: https://www.shopify.com

There's also a new one floating around called Payhip, but I'm not 100% about how it works so you might need to poke it a bit? But I think it works like Gumroad: https://payhip.com/

I just looked on Etsy as I knew people sold digital plush patterns on there, and people are also selling photoshop brushes that are available as an instant download after payment. That could be an option for you to use!
