WHAT: Two sets of digital colour character sheets. Total cost was US$ 210

WHEN: December 2013. Artist was paid fully in advance.

PROOF:

2013 Paypal Payment: https://vgy.me/Nr2TD6.jpg
2016 reestablishment of contact: https://vgy.me/ULSF2B.jpg
2016 chat on Picarto: https://vgy.me/R6gvs3.jpg

EXPLAIN: Initially this commission went well, with the first half of the art completed in good time and to my general satisfaction. First character sheet was completed around February 2014. The artist was then left to complete the rest of the commission. Personal life upheavals ensued in mid 2014, and I did not have the time to check in on the artist’s progress. No attempt was made by the artist to contact me from that time to this.

In May 2016 I re-established contact with the artist, who seemed agreeable to finishing the commission. Subsequent attempts to contact them, though their DA account, Skype and private messaging on their Picarto stream yielded no response. Only in September 2016, when asking to speak via the public chat on their Picarto, did they reply.

At that point I was told that they wanted to do something, but that they neither had the money to refund the remainder of the commission payment, nor the time to finish the commission. No practical means of achieving a resolution was offered. The dispute is ongoing.

All I have to say is wow! Beware well warranted and then some. They're not even apologetic in the slightest, and the way they communicate just kind of makes the fact that you're out this money a huge joke to them.

That was exactly my thought too, seeing how they communicate. That'd be a huge red flag to me. I can understand casual communications to a point, but that's over the top.

It's like talking to a cartoon character or a clown.

"It's like talking to a cartoon character or a clown."

I thought you were overreacting, but I went and read those replies and holy crap. It's like a terribly scripted JRPG's shopkeeper. I hope this beware gains a lot of traction so other people don't have to deal with this.

I don't understand how Fyuurina managed to remain calm through all that.

So calm, and LeftoverAutopsyJuice was so flippant. It's enraging TBH.

The way they speak to you is rly guilt-trippy too? And not very professional.

How they're speaking to you is horrible, but it wouldn't be so bad if that's just how they were. But taking a quick look at their submissions, they talk pretty normally, other then random caps sometimes. Unless I'm wrong?

So that definitely gives me the idea that they really don't care and are just stringing you along.

That actually is pretty par for the course language for them.

The deviantART notes made me uncomfortable, but as soon as I opened the link to the Picarto chat and read, "AHHH YES, I most certainly have!! I've been avoiding you too much!"

well.

The "lol i need a thesaurus" comments are just... wow. This is not the way to communicate as a business person. I can be fairly familiar in tone with some repeat customers, and I make for a friendly sounding email, but this is just ... not alright, at all.

I'm a casual/jokey person too but you can be that way and still be professional. This is... like junior high level of running a business.

They're speaking almost as if they're a game character and it's quite patronising, actually? Bizarre!

Wow. This is really disappointing. I commissioned them several times back when they were on FA and they were a bit campy in the way they talked/interacted in the streams I got art in but they were extremely nice. This makes me sad.

I hope you're able to get some resolution.

I actually had to come back to this an hour and a morning coffee because I was just seeing red. I mean, first of all you have all my respect and admiration for dealing with this so patiently and remaining so polite throughout the interactions. You cannot receive enough credit for how you handled this.

In the exact words of the friend I showed this to because I was in such utter disbelief: "What the fuck they talk like a video game cowboy character". I don't have a problem with people talking with a certain online characterisation, or in third person, or with weird quirks, but there's a point in business where you should drop the persona, otherwise it becomes really hard to take you seriously and trust you in a professional capacity. Present yourself professionally if you want to be trusted professionally.

I think what really had me ticked off was how they were basically using this weird video game way of speaking to basically be incredibly cruel to you. Telling you point blank they're avoiding you, have no intention to refund you, or even do the work, and literally laughing in your face about it? I'm so furious over that attitude. What a belittling way to treat another human being. If I had been in your position I would have been blowing my fucking top, so honestly again, kudos to you for your calm and civil handling of this person.

I'm just flabbergasted by their attitude. Even if they come through on the money or art in the end I couldn't imagine ever commissioning this person. I absolutely could not stomach being spoken to in such a dismissive and belittling way.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
Even if someone was a reliable artist, this way of talking to someone is, if nothing else, downright creepy.
I personally think when it comes to handling any sum of money (let alone over $200!), all "acts" should be dropped, it's rather inappropriate, off-putting, and in this case, will lose you many potential customers.
When you start selling something regularly, you have to act you're a business and NOT completely unhinged.
You wouldn't walk into Walmart and put up with the help desk lady talking like this!

I've never seen anything like this- what a painful read.
I am so rubbed the wrong way by that picarto chat and those condescending remarks about your vocabulary- yikes! All I can say is kudos for remaining calm and reasonable, especially towards someone like this who clearly isn't taking this seriously at all.

Wow, I have no words for that hunk of dialogue. Sorry that you're been yanked around like this OP, you are more than entitled to not only receive art or a refund, but to be treated respectfully as well.

I was reading this and trying to remember where I recognized their username from and THEN I REMEMBERED.

They are (or used to?) be super buddy-buddy with Blood~/thelxlbloodlxlprince on FA, who also tends to converse in such an... interesting manner?

Not sure if drama there or not, but I've seen/experienced enough with them that I tend to stay away nowadays.

I find it extra alarming that this is their most recent post on their Tumblr that you linked, as of September 21:

I'm sorry, OP, but I think they've checked out. I really don't think you're getting anything from this commission. :\

If that is relating to this situation, then they've stepped from "my happiness" to "legal business". You can't just take someone's money and not complete it for your "happiness".

Wow the picarto chat alons is enough to piss me off. You did well keeping your calm because I wouldn't have. The constant HAHAHA and etc while trying to have a serious discussion is highly unprofessional and pretty much says to me he's thinking "So what? I have your money and you can't do shit." This is why i refuse to wait more than 6 months for a commission if you don't have it by then i will be taking my money back. This beware was very much warranted and i have another artist i know to never do business with.

I am... flabbergasted. Reading that was painful and disappointing and just utterly inappropriate. Apart from the obvious spending money before a product was delivered issue, the fact that they basically say "I can't give you your money but I also can't do your art. But I'll think of something!" is just. No. And if someone was calling me "pally" like that, I'd have smacked them. You are far more patient than most of us, OP. I would never have been able to handle that as well as you. Beware extremely well warranted.

I'm honestly appalled at this. When they were still on fa and they used to have such a good work ethic, it's a shame to see a good artist turn like this. The way they 'stay in character' when talking to you and basically laugh in your face. I remember they used to do that the few times I talked to them in Blood's streams. Why on earth they think it's appropriate to do while talking to a customer that they owe money to I have no idea, their behavior is just horrible.

Also, I don't know if it's important in pointing out or not but apparently someone linked them this beware on their da.

Folks, as a reminder do not leave links to here on artists pages . Regardless of your intent you are still harassing them. Only the OP may link the artist here. There are no exemptions.

Yikes

Autopsy is an odd character. I've had many interactions with them in the past, but only once from a business standpoint [a friend bought an adoptable of theirs for me]. They remain in character much of the time/possibly all of the time, as others have pointed out. While it is quite funny at times, it doesn't really have a place in a business transaction like this, especially when discussing such a serious subject.

I really really hope they're not stiffing you. They seemed open to trying to figure something out, but admitted they may not ever have the funds to refund or the time to do the commission...yeah not sure how that works out to "try to figure something out."

This is so disappointing. :( I really like Autopsy and I don't want them to end up a thief.

I'm having such a hard time wrapping my head around this. The dialogue in the picarto chat is enough to make my hair stand on end. How -rude-. How you kept your patience with them is beyond me, so kudos to you for at least making SOMEONE in the situation seem professional.
How do you just flat out tell someone "Oh, yeah I've been avoiding you because I literally have no intention of doing anything for you." Getting art commissions are not donations and to treat them as such is a terrible tactic for business. Blegh.
I really do hope you manage to get SOMETHING from them. Anything. Dx
