I hope this is allowed....
I am trying to compile a list of things people have said to artists and commissioners that have a negative view/stance on various subjects surrounding art. Mediums, pricing, marketing, art itself, methods, etc.  Anything and everything, even if it seems minor. What arguments have you seen out there?
Please number/point if you have more than one to share.

Examples of what I'm looking for:
-Digital is worth more than traditional.
-Art isn't a real job. (Everyone knows this one)
-Digital art is cheating.
-Patreon is a scam/paywall.

Variations on the same thing and details are welcome because sometimes it can add another dynamic to the opinion that must also be tackled.

How about critique from a client that is more an insult than actual, applicable critique?

"It looks like you fell asleep halfway through drawing this, lol" is an actual quote, said to me. In the six years since, I've never forgotten it. It was the most insulting feedback I've received.

The most obnoxious thing about people saying stuff like that is that they -will- claim if you're upset, it's because you can't take critique/criticism. They can't tell the difference between just plain rudeness and critique.

Yyyyep. I didn't say anything about that specifically because I was honestly so shocked and dismayed, I didn't have a clue how to respond (I had something like two years of professional illustration under my belt, and hadn't had any serious negativity before that) and in a way I'm glad I didn't. That client didn't commission me too many times after that, and nobody else has been *quite* that insulting. It was a good lesson in keeping my cool and staying professional, even if the other party won't.

I know this might be a late reply, But I agree with you Kayla. I see so many people on FA and DA giving rude critiques and critiscm that isn't helpful and also like "this sucks" and then whine when people call them out for being rude saying "I was just being honest and all you guys are wussies!!!" Which is such a knee jerk and immature response.

If an artist doesn't want critique or criticism then they don't want it, most artists including myself don't really like it just because it's so simple or unhelpful. If I need help or see something wrong I'll go out of my way to look it up or fix it myself or something.
