Lost in the mail?
Feb. 11th, 2005 07:07 amA bidder of mine ordered a comic book. I sent it in one of those `Duck' photo mailers with my return address printed on a sticker. I don't know if that was the problem, or what, but after several weeks the bidder claims to have not received said package.
Is it possible that someone somehow found a way to steal it from the mail? How do things `get lost in the mail' to begin with?
Or am I being naive?

Date: 2005-02-11 05:35 pm (UTC)"Lost in the mail" seems like a VERY EASY excuse (especially from someone you've never dealt with before except after the auction's been won). If the person lives in another country or overseas expect mailing to take up to (if not more than) a month. Especially if you sent it media mail or something lower than Priority Mail (which is supposed to take up to 4 days) and possibly first class (which is only supposed to take around a week or two)
You can always tell the bidder that it is their responsability to ask for insurance on their item after purchase, and its a good idea to cover your butt in your Auction Profile (furbid has the JustMe page, ebay has Me) by saying your terms (here's mine as an example: http://www.furbid.ws/cgi-bin/auction.pl?justdisp&Matrices ).
I know that seems like foisting the blame, but as a seller, sometimes its completely necessary. I've had to deal with some underhanded people who've deadbeated me for over a year sending me money for commissions (claiming multiply that they've "lost" $50 in the mail at least twice, but being completely "willing" to "send it again") and this is why I expect payment within a month.

Date: 2005-04-18 06:19 am (UTC)as for losing money- i think that's even more likely. reason i only do it paypal now. sending a check is a huge risk, just watch the news. there are ways to strip checks and re-ink them for more money. there are scanners that will pick up if there's any money or checks in that envelope. our post offices are not without their corruptions.
Going Postal
Date: 2005-02-12 12:18 am (UTC)If it was just me, I'd be pissed off, would complain (again) and the local dunce would be replaced; life -would- be peachy, BUT IT'S NOT!!! It's gotten to the point where I -HAVE TO- pay extra for the tracking and such to make sure the P.O. is doing the job WE are paying them to do in the first place. It's sad.
"THsooo..... did you want us to shuffle this around the country and see if it randomly comes out in the mailbox it was intended for or would you like to pay more to make sure we get it right?"
If you get anything out of this, please, PLEASE remember:
DO NOT TRUST THE POST OFFICE
No, I'm not bitter; yes, I am a little annoyed, but I've learned my lesson and I don't give them any excuses. It takes a lot of people to get that job done, and with that many people, -you- get screwed by ANY mistake ANY of them make. Buyer Beware / Sender be warned.
