Just a quick warning to all artists about this Etsy shop:

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6979988

This person is stealing art to put on her products... and offering the digital "High Resolution" prints for people to download and use wherever they want.

One of my friends contacted her about the matter today, and she removed one listing claiming that she wasn't aware of where her "business partners" got the image but claims that she is selling her own digital artwork.

I know I would be upset if I found someone making money off of my art like this, so just spread the word and if you see the art of someone you know on there, let them know.

Edit: Well, apparently there has been some progress. A lot of the art stolen from well known artists has been removed (either by etsy or by herself... I don't know).
It does resolve a bit of the issue... but personally I know it's not a case of "Oops, I didn't know", since she clearly knew what she was doing. I would have prefered to have seen her account banned. It may still be... who knows.

Anyways... a good amount of the stolen artwork has already been sold... so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some legal issues surrounding this person in the near future.

A few years ago there was a woman on eBay who was selling my Harry Potter artwork on purses made out of cigar boxes. She was charging $50 a pop for them, too. >:\

That's very much against Etsy's TOS. If you contact them, they sometimes get back in a matter of minutes--they're very good!

Don't just let the person know, contact Etsy with proof. Enough proof and the store will be shut down--show them this behavior isn't tolerated.

I wonder if the onus would be on her to prove that she has the rights to distribute such art.

And this is why I watermark EVERYTHING I post, even if its just a silyl doodle. Also, never post hi-res copies of your artwork. Low-res images are harder to use and are therefore stolen/reused/resold less.

Yeah, On the net you really don't need to go above 72dpi for viewing.

This is true!
But, there is a lot of rips of images that don't need to be above 72dpi, such as on those Italian charms and such. They only need a tiny square crop of the main part of the image. I find my work being used like that a lot, and there is nothing at all to prevent it short of not sharing artwork.

I have a ton of double-wide Italian charms I need to go ahead and use up... Any suggestions? If I remember right, they're all heart-shaped enclosures, but I don't know how popular they still are.

I know some of these images have been around the net since the late 90s. It may be hard to find the original owner of them now sadly.

Others I've definitely seen on deviantart, but like you I don't remember where ;_;.
