Alright, so I commissioned an artist around a little past the beggining of March for a textile peice. Upon request, I was told that the peice would be created before I went on vacation about a week later for an extra $5 dollars, plus the $40 I had already payed. Turns out it wasn't finished in time for my trip, but I shrugged it off and allowed them to keep the extra $5. On April 1st, I was shown the finished product, and it appeared beyond statisfactory, so I approved it for shipping. After that, I heard nothing more from the artist, the product has still not reached me, and attempts to get in touch with them via email have failed. I know that a few other people have this problem with the same person as well. I wouldn't mind all this if the product was still in the process of being finished, but...it is finished.

So, my question is, what should I do by this point? My dad already filed a complaint to paypal, but I really would like to get what I paid for. Suggestions 0,o?

Filing a dispute with Paypal is a sure way to get the money back, since Paypal favors the buyer.

Not entirely though. Remember that the way I was able to foil Canis Claxis is because he paid me for a service, and the PayPal buyer protection doesn't cover services, only material goods.

He'll be scott free if he's smart enough to mention that to PayPal (I have no idea if he is), or even if he so much as ships it with confirmation. In that case, she won't get her money back, but she'll get the product I guess.

Hmm, does the artist have a livejournal or anything?
I've had a similar problem, I was waiting for a finished commission that was supposted to be sent before christmas, up intill a week ago when I found her livejournal and realized she had some issues come up and had to move, computer crashed, ect. But she still is gonna mail me my piece.. Just late.
:P

Would you mind telling us who it is, as a warning? It'd be nice, espeically in case anyone here decides to want to commission her...

I'm currently having the same issue with the person you're mentioning (I saw your comment in her LJ) and I must say I am seriously displeased. I commissioned her before and she was very timely, which is why I thought it odd, but to have something COMPLETED and then not take the time to ship it out, not just with mine, but with others as well..that is unacceptable. Its been about 4 months and I'm really testy about the situation.

Very unprofessional.

Let us know how the paypal thing works out? I'm considering it myself. I'm not one to put up with bullshit.

Actually, I am having the same problem with the same person. I commissioned her back on Feb 15 and the goods were supposed to be finished and shipped within' one week. On April 1st she posted a picture of the finished product and it was not what I ordered, a very important part had been left out completely. I e-mailed her and requested her to change that and then ship it to me but no response ever came. Now here it is four months later and no goods, no refunds, and no response.

Edit: While browsing around one of her friend's LJ's I came across this...

"So, while I've lately been trying not to post entries consisting of "I went here this day and did this thing with this person," this was a really cool thing that I did. (Her name here) and I went to Cape Flattery." - This is dated Jun. 5, 2005

Now, in the commissionee's LJ she had mentioned those two hang out often. So i'm forced to assume that the name he used was no coincidence. If she is well enough to go out to places like that, then she is well enough to send out those items. I'm sorry if I seem really rude, but my patience has worn thin.

I agree. I don't really want my money back, I just want my hat. o.O I wonder why she just doesn't have a friend or family member ship them off?

At least your not the only one looking to hard. I've e-mailed her twice this week. :/ Still no response. *sighs*

Kavsie, do you have aim or msn so I can talk to you on there?

Update

Okay, she posted this in her LiveJournal.

Chances are you're watching my journal because you want to know what in the world is going on with me. There's been a lot, including some pretty tough and bad times.

If you've seen your finished hat, it will be mailed soon. If you haven't seen a finished hat, my paycheck is going into a full refund for you. I'm sorry I don't have a time frame, and I'm sorry that my email hasn't been behaving.

I took on way too much, and the popularity of my hats went from "awesome" to "this is incredibly overwhelming". I wish I could have held fast to a massive commission market like fireeyes somehow manages to, but I'm nowhere near as strong as she is.

Now i'm left with one last question... how soon is soon?

True, but updates would never hurt anything.
