Four months ago Cryth/Silvercoils(NOT to be confused with another artist "Crypt") offered that she would trade large apple snail shells for art/money. I know one other artist(which i'm not naming yet since i don't know if she would mind or not) and I did art in exchange for them but neither of us have received the snail shells yet. I don't know how many other artists exchanged or paid for them, but she also posted the offer in another LJ community.

She never commented on the picture and hasn't commented on the other pictures people drew for her. I assumed that she just had life problems and left it at that since I know issues come up, you know?
But I decided to look at her profile info to see if she updated else where and turns out she just dropped off of FA and was updating her DA. Her most recently submission there was June 4th and she updated her twitter two weeks ago.
Before her twitter update, I sent her a note and its still unread. I sent it two weeks and 3 days ago. So now I'm skeptical. She was nice to me and I enjoyed the brief comments we've left for each other, but I'm not too sure what kind of excuse she could have besides she's just plain avoiding this issue all together. If for any reason she was no longer to get the snail shells or she ran out, she could have at least told me.

I only exchanged two other notes with her on FA(im not sure if she ever read my reply) and I would post it but I have absolutely no idea how to screencap on this laptop but its just her agreeing to the trade.

Does anyone else know how many artists agreed to her trade and whether or not they got something back from her?

I'm kind of torn on this one. This is really more of a vendor issue more than an art trade issue. You paid with art sure but what she was supposed to be selling / giving in return were shells...

imho art trades should only be allowed here if it is only art that is being traded, no items., unless it was some kind of purchase of goods because of no available paypal/cheque etc

Interesting factoid time: Shells have been used as currency in a great many countries, indeed up until quite recently in some cases.

Just out of curiosity. What do you want the snail shells for? We've got tons of them where I live. They're pretty easy to find by a lake nearby.

I've been eying up snail shells for awhile so I wanted to make things like wind chimes, jewelry(rings, necklaces) and use them in sculptures. NJ seems to be lacking shells if you don't count the ones you can find at the beach.

On-topic now. It's really strange that she hasn't contacted you about any of it. It's good that she didn't re-offer, but to not contact you at all, that's just weird. I don't know if she's seen the work you did. Perhaps she assumes that you didn't do the work, and are pestering her about shells? I don't see why, but that's all I can think of.

Perhaps there's an IM or email for her. I hope this gets worked out, those are lovely shells.

I can get you some for just the cost of shipping, if you like. I would have to let them dry out. That is, if you're still interested. They're usually just at the edge of the lake in the water. I suppose that's where they wash up when they die. The shells are usually in perfect condition. I would only pick up and save the good really large ones.

I ALMOST did biz with her but the sudden SPIKE in price she wanted for the shells was like O.o and I never went thru with it. I had a bad feeling in my gut after that. Especially since she also went from "omg I have tons and can sell for cheap" to "omg, I have only 5 and have to charge an arm and leg now" real fast.

Sorry you got ripped. Since the mods over there have a history of letting questionable people sell and rip people off, I hope if she attempts future sales that you'll direct people to this post yourself.

How much did she plan on charging for them? Since we agreed to trade for art I never bothered asking about a price. Being that she changed her mind about how much she had suddenly, now I wonder if she really did sell some since it just looked like she was advertising for something she planned on doing.

I wish the community was a little more careful about that stuff.. I've never been ripped off, but I've had some dealings that were less than perfect which is mainly that people neglect to mention the damage certain items have. I bought a bobcat skull and it was so greasy it just smelled so awful I got nauseous. And I got a beautiful fox face, but the seller didn't mention there was a huge hole on it and missing the nose. Urgh. I wish they could setup some sort of feedback community..

I think it was $25 each, but I've been searching my gmail and I think I just deleted her emails when I got those bad feelings in my gut. I've searched "apple" and "shell" and "snail" and nothing of her emails has popped up so they have to be gone.

Don't tell the mods! They'll just tell you you are holding a grudge and sick and should seek therapy to "get over it". This is why on curio_collector we set up a feedback post.

Honestly, you should report those two sellers. And I'd appreciate a heads up too. Even though the mods banned me for "grudge holding" I still do biz with some folks over there and I'd appreciate knowing in advance to 1. ask for more pics and clarification that the items aren't damaged or 2. just not to biz with them. Please PM the names?

Btw, I consider bad dealings = ripped off. You paid for one thing but got something less than, after all.

Hmmm what I find weird about it is that she didn't reply to any comments on the entry of people saying they want them.

Maybe LJ just isn't notifying her when people comment on her entries? [It's actually doing that to me right now :\]

I assumed she just posted about it to see who was interested in first, and would have possibly gotten back to people/make a new entry when she was ready. I never saw her post there before besides that entry so I also assumed that maybe someone just directed her to that community.

I don't think she forgot. Did she forget she has an FA too? Seems weird that she went from active, then just disappeared from it only after she owed people something. My assumption is that she's just avoiding the people she owes, which I hope turns out not to be the case.

I've only done business once over FHB and it worked out great. As soon as I bought the item I found out the seller lived literally 2 miles away from my house so she just dropped it off.

I didn't know it was such a big problem.

I suppose you just pick and choose your sellers carefully. I can't say so much about how the mods act since I haven't witnessed many things go down but I'm definitely not liking what I'm reading about what really goes on with them..

I was worried about this too, I also assumed that life issues just came up. I finally got my shell in the mail about 1-2 weeks ago though! So maybe yours is on the way, or she just forgot? I hate that she's so hard to contact about them, especially when she advertised for them everywhere.
