I commisioned FA's Surrenderyerswag/captain-squeak/clowncaronfire Back in July of 2010. I had originaly contacted them via there FA Clowncaronfire. They asked me to PM there commision account Surrenderyerswag so I did.
I commisioned a Derp badge for $15 which can be seen completed here.

On August 30th I made contact asking if my badge had been mailed out. I got this reply.

I said okay I'm sure it'll be mailed out soon then.

I waited and made contact again on October 14th. I got this reply. (my stuff is highlighted by red)

I had replyed back in a nasty manor because I was upset knowing my badge was done and wasn't being sent out. This is the 3rd person i've commisioned and haven't recieved my art from so I was upset.(one ended up being resolved) Family (or ferret) problems hasn't stopped this person from takeing on more commisions so why has it stopped them from sticking a stamp on an envelop and dropping it in the mailbox?

I have not made contact with this person again because I don't want fed more excusses. I just want my art. I paid for a product and I expect to get it. Several other people bought these at the same time I did and i'm curious to know if they got theres or not.

**EDIT**
I recieved my badge yesterday in the mail along with a little extra drawing. Looks like the situation has been resolved and then some. Thanks for getting that out so fast.

Damn, that sort of sucks. What kind of artist can't take 2 minutes to put a stamp on an envelope and mail it off?

Hm, pretty funny that you don't mention the fact that I offered refunds like a week ago though, huh?
You'll get your badge. Just please have a little decency to post the full story. Including the fact that I offered refunds on shipping next time.
I'm not a scam artist.

In some situations artists have a lot of clientele to keep in contact with, it takes some time to message each individual personally.
If you're concerned about the status of your badge and others (as indicates by your post here), that could warrant a moment to go take a look at the artist's public updates that they've posted. More than likely, if there's more than one person involved, there will be a journal addressing everyone. This is something you could have done already rather easily.

Sometimes life can get carried away, it happens. What is best in situations like these (where you're clearly not getting scammed out of money or art) is a little understanding, because we've all been there at some time or other.

You have a point, but it is not the commissioners duty to follow the artist's journals for updates - they should be personally kept in the loop

I didn't send out PMs personally, no.
It's a journal on my commissions account, which since you commissioned me, I assumed you were watching.

I mentioned before that I am ashamed that it's taken so long to ship things out. It's not as if I don't care. I honestly do.
I won't feed you anymore excuses. But I suggest contacting the artist once more in the future before doing one of these "beware" things.
I always come through on the art or offer refunds if I can't do them.
Again, I am not a scam artist.

Absolutely, but that is an ideal situation. I prefer a perspective that accommodates error here and there, personally. That way we don't rely on others entirely, and are still independent in situations that would normally be out of our control. I like to claim responsibility as much as I can to ensure things go well even in sour times.

That's a really broad explanation though, and has more to do with life than this situation in particular xD

It has been an extortionate length of time. Sometimes it takes me a week to send stuff out, because it can just be an arse to get to the post office, but still, 6 months of family issues that prevent you from going to the post office?

Not that I'm not sympathetic, there can be issues at home that can be so detrimental that you can't leave the house from depression, but 6 months is a little extreme.

I like the artist's work, and they seem lovely, so I'm a little surprised. I don't think they're a scam artist, I just think a little... I don't know, maybe careless or apathetic

I made that "SurrenderYerSwag" account specifically to post commissions and for commissioners.
I don't post other things on there that don't regard commissions. It's my way of keeping in touch with them.
Not to mention my AIM and email address, all for clients.

Well - again, just because someone commissions you, doesn't mean they necessarily watch you. I've had people commission me via email alone, and so I would have to keep updating them off site.

I'm surprised they didn't contact you by AIM, but after asking you twice, I know I would feel awkward as hell about asking again

I understand your concern, but the same amount (if not less) effort that was used to make this post, could have easily been spent checking the artists page for updates.

I hate to butt in here, but it's honestly not your clients responsibility to follow your journals. It's a pain, I know, but you NEED to contact them privately when you do something like offer refunds, or make a large status update. They do have a right to post you here, due to how long it's taken for you to get their badge to them. It stings, but thats how things go when you don't keep in good contact with a customer who's been waiting a while.

Let me set some things straight.

1. Yes. The length of time it has taken me to ship things out is not only wrong and embarassing, but it's disgusting and haunts me constantly. I have mentioned this tme, and time again.
I never wanted it to take this long.
2. I live in an area where quite frankly, I don't trust those around me, so yes I could get to the post office on my own, but carrying a big bag full of art bothers me cus people here are desperate and thieves like you can't imagine. Basically? It's because of that I rely on my father.
3. I will try my hardest to get that, and a few of the others I owe out before the week is finished. If I can't, I will personally note you.

Pardon the attitude, I just find it a little odd and slightly irritating that I'd end up on "Artists_Beware" after offering refunds. 8/

Posting here is kind of a big deal, so it just seems like one would make a recent last attempt beforehand.

Indeed it could be.
But the thing is... The commission was made over my 'SYS' account. So yes, I had assumed she was watching me. And I also assumed "Refunds" would catch the eye of an unhappy client.

Speaking as a friend of CCoF/Squeak/Swag, I'll be frank

Both of y'alls were in the wrong.

Squeak-- I know the journals are a good way to get in mass contact with your commissioners, but instead of saying "I posted a journal about it" maybe say "Yeah, I made a journal explaining about my situation, here it is in case you missed it" going the extra inch, foot or mile does a lot.

And never, ever drop to someone's level when they're angry at you. It just makes things worse. "Not everyone's life is the Brady Bunch" was completely uncalled for.

Kandifurgurl- You shouldn't take out all your frustrations on Squeak either. I think a lot of us have waited a long time, so there's no need to state the obvious. You could have remained polite, even if the wait was unreasonable, staying prompt and polite is always your best option when speaking to anyone. I'm pretty sure you don't lik being yelled at, so you wouldn't do the same now would you?

If I'd already contacted someone several times and still didn't have my art, I would have trouble believing 'Well THIS time will be different', too. You're upset, but you're not really trying to see it from her side. It is simply not her responsibility to watch your journals, and all the wouldacouldashouldas in the world won't change that. That is all on you.

If you get her her badge, she can update the post to reflect that and the beware tag will be removed and replaced with a resolved tag. It can be a big deal, but it won't kill your business as long as you do the right thing.

Considering in the 2 years of my doing commissions that you're one of three people to ever complain. I guess I didn't find it too strange.
