[identity profile] lupine-assassin.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
I had to give this a long think before deciding to post here. A friend suggested I should, so here goes:

Nearly 3 years ago, I commissioned http://www.furaffinity.net/user/tinyfoxtaur aka http://www.furaffinity.net/user/gafoxtaur for an expensive commission. I've since paid it in full; a total of $500 for a 4-page comic. He has since finished the linework. Since then, trying to reach him is like pulling teeth. He has yet to finish coloring my commission. The few times I was fortunate to finally chat with him on YIM, he seemed very apologetic and kept promising me to finish it. Since then, nothing.

I understand my friend and others are in the same boat, waiting for him to finish their art. I don't know if his schedule prevents him from finishing his obligations, but come on! Three years for mine? I'm not asking for my money back, I just want him to finish what he promised.

Here are the PayPal receipts:

I'm going to state right off the bat that I expect everyone to behave in this post and treat it like any other beware. Starting drama WILL get you a warning, at the very least.

That said, [livejournal.com profile] lupine_assassin, you might want to consider adding screencaps and more info.

Please check your email attached to LJ about the latest two posts. Both need more information before being approved.

I recall seeing him at FWA last year and I believe he did a commission for a friend of mine. Don't quote me on that, though.

Like Kayla said, screencaps of communication would be helpful.

Judging by the shouts you're not the only one, unless they are you. Maybe others will come forward with their stories.

Regarding this post, information proving the exchange would be appreciated.

Adding them to the post under an lj cut would be good, along with any other correspondence. This comm likes to have bewares backed up with evidence as more than once people have come forward with a twisted version of events due to grudges etc.

Also if you paid in installments why did you pay everything upfront before any part of the work reached completion?

Needs more screencaps.

Just out of curiosity, how old is the guy?

I pulled his information, but wikifur says he was born in 67'. Makes me wonder if he is still kicking.

Believe it or not, there are people older than 40 in the fandom. I used to know a guy who was close to 60 years old.

Many individuals don't take care of themselves, if they're getting around 40+ and suddenly disappear, I assume health.

I'm not sure what happened to gafoxtaur.

That second link has two shouts by FA user Tervicz that seem somewhat relevant:

"I gave him a timeline in the assumption he was genuine. However as more than one victim has since surfaced and a continuous refusal to redeem. He may be a good artist but he this is not a good business. People simply

need to know what they're buying into with this artist. I don't believe or trust his promises any more. And people shouldn't commission him until he gets his business straight and delivers what he was paid for."

I've never heard of this particular artist before, but there may be a history behind this which might need looking into.

He was at last year's FWA as far as I know. Like other people have said, he's still kicking enough to favorite art on FA.

He was indeed at FWA last year, I don't know how many people commissioned him. But I was one of them. Granted it was a 40.00 commission, nothing like the 600. that Lupine paid, but none the less, nothing was shown for what was paid for.

It sounds to me like perhaps a smalls claims court thing might be in order. [but I don't know about that. ]

He seems to still be favouriting things on one of his accounts.

off topic but yanno....being born in 67' doesn't mean you're Old! It isn't even that old at all! Now if born in like the 40's or 30's ok fine.

I commissioned him at FWA last year for a gift for my boyfriend. I wanted to surprise him with it. Well That never happened.
Since he still owes me art as well. I paid him in full, and have since sent him a note asking for at least an update. And his notes have been left unread.
I know he's still active, and he's still asking for commissions.

It's been a year for me waiting. I know others have waited longer.

[edited to add]

I have saved all my convos with him on Fa, if links, or something is needed, I'll be happy to provide them. Please know I am a Very patient person, When I know what is going on. But if someone chooses to ignore, then I'm not so patient.

I've seen that he's removed 99% of his artwork from his FA page, so he may be withdrawing from artwork (a la Ashtoreth).

It's him alright. Tinyfoxtaur is gafoxtaur, he changed into gafoxtaur a couple of years ago.

I'm in the same boat here, already made a post about him here. A 50$ commission over 2 years ago and never received a thing. About that time he begged desperately for money claiming he could not pay for his bill. I suspect there may be more commissioners duped by this guy, with small 5$ sketches.

From: [identity profile] thaily.livejournal.com
Oh, Higgs. He has something of a reputation for always being open for commissions but hardly ever doing them. Considering his age I also doubt he's ever going to change. Did you pay via Paypal using a creditcard? Or a bank account? Maybe try talking to them about reversing the payment, though it's unlikely since it's been so long. Otherwise, small claims court. I don't think you'll see your money back any other way.

ahh yes

I've been in fandom since about 1996 and a piece of advice I got from someone was to never get art from him, as he will never get it done. Sad, it seems that sage advice from all those years ago was spot on.

I think with that amount of money this might be able to go to small claims court couldn't it? Especially since other people have suffered the same fate here.

If not that, then keep trying to get a hold of him, or even just threaten the suit. Sometimes knowing someone is just considering doing it is enough to kick someone in the butt y'know?

I just wanted to add mention that I'm in the same boat as tervicz, as is another friend of mine. A desperate cry for money, and then nothing to show for it.

As I mentioned on Tervicz post, he has said he planned to attend FWA again. If he's there, is it worth trying to do anything? Confrontation, boycott?
