how long is too long to wait?

so about three weeks ago i got some icon commissions from someone. paid within 2hrs of being shown the completed icons (in smaller format/ a collage with others from that batch). i was supposed to get a 500x500 and a 100x100 of each of them, and have yet to receive them... i went about two weeks being ignored asking for my full sizes and resizes (asking every few days), and finally got an email saying they were having net issues and would send them that night, and that was about a week and a half ago... i emailed them again tonight, and never got a response, but they promptly put up a journal saying they are having personal issues and that's why they haven't been responding (along with another submission)... that's all well and good, but i paid for a product that i *know* is done, and i am pleased with, but how hard is to send out an email? how long should i keep prodding them to send me my images before i post them here?

*edit* i just sent another email asking for full sizes again, and informing them i will open a dispute if i don't receive them by the cutoff date (april 10th). if i have to go that route, i'll definitely post here again with a beware... thanks for all the input and suggestions ^^ actually, i'll send a note as well so i can see if it's opened...

*EDIT2* (3/18/11) i just received my full sizes and icon sizes, and an apology for the delay ^^ all is well and resolved, thank you all for the advice ^^

Considering who it is (as you mentioned on another community; I won't name names unless you choose to, though) I don't think you're going to have very good luck; I'm afraid. Even getting to see yours completed was luckier than many have been. I'm sorry. =C

yeah, i'm seeing that now, and i feel like a space cadet for not noticing who it was earlier x.x i guess i should count myself lucky i saw anything at all, but i didn't pay until AFTER i saw the downsized completed pieces, so i suppose that helped me :/

right, i know now... but assuming this was some random no name artist? i might be getting overanxious with reason here, but i wouldn't want to freak on someone else if the same situation were to happen, you know? i suppose i'm just looking for etiquette atm ^^

I'm afraid I have no advice, especially since a few people who seem to be more knowledgable on the artist in question have already given their input here, but....Haha, I'm feeling like the only furry fan who doesn't follow furry fandom or artists much online--I have no idea who this artist is that everyone is talking about!

You're not alone. I know a few oldschool popular furry artist names cause I followed them back in the 90s but since then, I know very few newer names. I'm not with any of the newer "in" crowds so that is probobly why? Its also become much harder to stay uptodate with the furry crowds these days of amillionandonewaystogatherinsmallmasses. Where DO the fur artists hang out? And don't tell me fa forums cause I go there and there is a handfull of regulars.

If they can't somehow find the time to send a quick email with your finished icons attached, something's up, personal issues or no. It might be extreme but I would suggest that if you haven't received those icons before the 45-day dispute limit on your Paypal transaction expires, open a dispute and get your money back until you have actually received the files you've been promised. Otherwise, it seems like you'll have neither and they'll get away with ignoring you; and there'll be pretty much nothing you can really do, since previous posts about them have done pretty much nothing to better their business practices.

This. If that 45 days hasn't passed yet, jump on it. But beware that PP is made up idiots so be EXPLICIT and REPETITIVE in what dollar amount you want as a refund... most likely it will end up that they have to extract the amount from the seller's account to refund you with if the seller is not responding, if it comes to that you might end up with a "congrats we have refunded you $ " email like I did once (literally no dollars, just a blank after the $ sign and no money in my account).

OP, are you able to at least use the icon from the collage that was posted?

Not saying you should settle for that, but at least you could still use it. I hope you'll be able to get the actual files, as slim as the chance may be.

i believe i can, i've yet to do so in the mindset that if they see me using them anyway, they may be less apt to send them because hey, i already have them, yanno? my bigger issue is not getting the full 500x500px that are supposed to be mine as well...

I noticed that when they're uploaded as a batch, there's the 100x100 and a 300x300. Maybe the artist accidentally just drew them at 300x300 instead of 500x500? Which would really suck but...just guessing :(

you know, i never even thought about that! that would explain it, since they are all uploaded at the same size... and i *do* have the 300x300's, but a "whoops i goofed, sorry!" still would have been nice... that seems like an easy enough mistake to make, and if nothing else, i can justify that better than just 'too lazy to send an email', though i was promised by email i would have my full sizes sent...

The only thing I can possibly think of is that the full-size ones may be stored on an external or networked drive that she can't pull up right away? I know I've been scatterbrained enough that sometimes I forget for a few days to grab a file off a shared drive from the server back at the house. I think about it at work but then when I get home I'm tired and worn out and don't remember to do it - the next time I remember, I'm back at work, and again, can't access it.

It's not a GOOD excuse by any means, but at least a possible explanation for what's taking so long?

If this is an artist who otherwise has a good track record, I might be patient with them, even though it's hard for me to conceive not EMAILING a finished product.
If it's someone with a BAD track record then I'd be much harder on them. You're probably being jerked around and maybe the best way to get what you should would be to threaten a dispute (if you paid with paypal)
And if they don't come through, go ahead and actually dispute before the time runs out. That might light a fire under their butt. DON'T let them stall you until the 45 days is up!!!

Am I the only person getting tired of the guessing games that go on in posts where a name is withheld? It's like people are treating it like a game trying to figure out who the artist is, and when they know they gleefully post hints to others.

If the OP doesn't want to name the person just now, I'd love it if people were encouraged not to treat it like a challenge.

Now that I know who you're talking about, my advice is to file a Paypal dispute before it's too late. I was supposed to get a PRINT from this artist over a year ago and she never sent it to me.

Just don't wait too long before it's too late.

i just did the math, i have until the 10th of april, but i think i'll just wait a week if i get no response, because i don't appreciate being ignored... i just feel like a moron for not catching the alias x.x
