Well shit, son.
Nov. 1st, 2005 07:45 amThere is a new FChan-like board, recently.
ChanPlz, run by

Why is this being posted here by moi? The DNP (Do Not Post) list is a bit... flakey. Long story short, you pretty much do not have the right to have your images removed unless you can actually lose money because of the images being posted (such as comic book pages and prints). But that being said, I really am not seeing that enforced at this particular moment.
Just thought I'd spread the word. :/

Edit: The site is down, now.

Date: 2005-11-01 01:11 pm (UTC)My post is here ---> http://www.livejournal.com/~kurtbatz/201805.html
Arcturus has NO RIGHT to allow work to be posted by artists who have requested it stays off the site and NO RIGHT to dictate the terms and conditions by which art may or may not be removed.
I agree with every work Kaputotter has to say, the whole project smacks of trolling to me.
If an artist says they don't want their art posted that should be the end of it. No ifs. No buts. No arguments, discussions or such. It's called respect. Something Arcturus clearly doesn't have even the vaguest knowledge about.
I've just been speaking to a friend of mine who's practically in tears because someone posted personal art of hers to Fchan, even though she's on the DNP list. They won't take it down as it's not commercial.
Now imagine the same situation, without so much as an ATTEMPT at a DNP list. As if thing couldn't get any worse.
Arcturus is getting smacked down by a lot of people over this at the moment and I more than happy to join them.

Date: 2005-11-01 01:25 pm (UTC)Honestly, I'm sick of seeing my friend cry over this kind of shit. I don't understand why people can't just respect the fact an artist doesn't want their work posted and move on. Seriously now, it's not like there isn't porn EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNETZ.

Date: 2005-11-01 02:27 pm (UTC)Sadly, furaffinity had a huge user base. I say sadly, as Arcturus has set it up so anyone that visits the old site automatically gets fowarded to HIS new one.
This new site is in its infancy, people haven't started signing up in droves yet. Before that happens, baring in mind the number of people that used furaffinity, and no doubt would want to again, it's a toss up between keeping quiet and letting Arc get away with it, or letting everyone know what's going on.
Catch 22 if you like.
The dream situation would be if Arcturus started listening to criticism and realised that some artists are going to go ballistic over this, and updated his site to include a DNP list. For that to happen, as many people as possible need to confront him over it with the message that this is an unacceptable way to act.

Date: 2005-11-01 02:32 pm (UTC)but this happens:
someone takes your art, posts it with arists name
someone sees it on THAT site, and doesnt care enough to take the name... posts it on their site.
someone else sees it on that new site, see's no name. grabs it, cuts it up into pictures, copies it, or reposts it saying THEY drew it. Then THEY sell prints of it, make money off of what you did without anyone knowing who the artist originally was, etc.
have more respect for your work, it deserves it, even if you dont think it's getting the attention. (maybe you need to promote yourself a bit more if you dont think you're getting enough?)

Date: 2005-11-01 02:49 pm (UTC)As for the stealing art and copying thing. There is a lot more to it than being flattered that someone took -your- work. Its that they've taken it and pissed all over it and practically destroyed its actual purpos, meaning and spirit of why the heck it was drawn in the first place. Even if it is porn. I certainly would not be overjoyed if something I worked hard on, and meant a lot to me was suddenly yoinked from under my nose and used as a different purpos, and for someone elses enjoyment.
If you do not understand that, you don't know the meaning of the word artist.

Date: 2005-11-01 02:53 pm (UTC)I draw art so people can enjoy it....if they take it and post it to see isn't taht its purpose?

Date: 2005-11-01 03:01 pm (UTC)Anyway, if you want to promote yourself a bit more, you need to get out -there- more. Post your work on public galleries if you wish to do so, comment on art more, just get out there and be known. Do a variety of art, do art trades, requests. There's loads of things you can do to achive it. I can't promise it'll happen straight away, but as long as you keep trying, you'll get there eventually.

Date: 2005-11-01 03:28 pm (UTC)I'm not "rallying people to shut it down," either, just to make that clear. xD I'm just letting people know it's there. Everyone can do what they want, really. I have no intent on flaming the owner of ChanPlz in their personal stuff or reporting the site, myself-- That's all up to everyone else, if they wish. Assuming the possibility that comic book and print artists watch this community, they can keep watch on the place and ask for their works to be taken down as they appear.
It probably won't be shut down, either. If a site could be shut down for content, all the "chans" would have been shut down long ago. xD

Date: 2005-11-01 03:36 pm (UTC)Sorry, but I just can't stand people who cry and whine constantly because they have no "exposure" on the internet.
