[identity profile] filthy-animal.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
There is a new FChan-like board, recently.

ChanPlz, run by [livejournal.com profile] n.

Why is this being posted here by moi? The DNP (Do Not Post) list is a bit... flakey. Long story short, you pretty much do not have the right to have your images removed unless you can actually lose money because of the images being posted (such as comic book pages and prints). But that being said, I really am not seeing that enforced at this particular moment.

Just thought I'd spread the word. :/

Edit: The site is down, now.

I made a post on it too

My post is here ---> http://www.livejournal.com/~kurtbatz/201805.html

Arcturus has NO RIGHT to allow work to be posted by artists who have requested it stays off the site and NO RIGHT to dictate the terms and conditions by which art may or may not be removed.

I agree with every work Kaputotter has to say, the whole project smacks of trolling to me.

If an artist says they don't want their art posted that should be the end of it. No ifs. No buts. No arguments, discussions or such. It's called respect. Something Arcturus clearly doesn't have even the vaguest knowledge about.

I've just been speaking to a friend of mine who's practically in tears because someone posted personal art of hers to Fchan, even though she's on the DNP list. They won't take it down as it's not commercial.

Now imagine the same situation, without so much as an ATTEMPT at a DNP list. As if thing couldn't get any worse.

Arcturus is getting smacked down by a lot of people over this at the moment and I more than happy to join them.

Arcturus doesn't have respect for anyone. He wants things done HIS way. Good thing this whole ChanPlz thing floated out since right now it can lead to people finally finding out what a jerk he really is.

I'm going to find some legal savy freinds, and find some legal advice.

I've never been a big person to go on and sue pwoplw and ive not found my art or anything, but for the sake of other artists... what hes doing isnt right. Artists hold the rights to what they create and cannot post things like this without permission AND expect not to allow artists on a DNP.

So I'm going to find out what I can do. Dont care what it means. I have friends to protect.

See about contacting the person that hosts the page, or his ISP? Re-posting images without consent, and trying to dictate terms like that, is NOT okay (what with an image being created meaning it's copywritten to the creator, and so obviously they should be able to dictate their own terms for the posting of their art) and if enough unhappy people contact his ISP/host, he will probably be shut down.

Excellent point. If it's a UK based domain (and I know Arcturus personally, he's british) then I wonder how they'd react to the sizeable amount of adult content contained therin and the inclusion of people's intellectual properties against their express wishes?

sure, i'm happy if they ask..

but this happens:

someone takes your art, posts it with arists name

someone sees it on THAT site, and doesnt care enough to take the name... posts it on their site.

someone else sees it on that new site, see's no name. grabs it, cuts it up into pictures, copies it, or reposts it saying THEY drew it. Then THEY sell prints of it, make money off of what you did without anyone knowing who the artist originally was, etc.

have more respect for your work, it deserves it, even if you dont think it's getting the attention. (maybe you need to promote yourself a bit more if you dont think you're getting enough?)

Because this is someone's property. They have every right to not want it posted without permission. People have put hard work into this and it gets annoying when they aren't given proper credit.

Even if you don't see the validity in someone getting upset over this kind of theivery doesn't mean you have any right to tell them they shouldn't get mad. This is someone's property and it's theft and it's illegal, I feel that's reason enough to get "a stick up their bum".

You make a very good point there.

Sadly, furaffinity had a huge user base. I say sadly, as Arcturus has set it up so anyone that visits the old site automatically gets fowarded to HIS new one.

This new site is in its infancy, people haven't started signing up in droves yet. Before that happens, baring in mind the number of people that used furaffinity, and no doubt would want to again, it's a toss up between keeping quiet and letting Arc get away with it, or letting everyone know what's going on.

Catch 22 if you like.

The dream situation would be if Arcturus started listening to criticism and realised that some artists are going to go ballistic over this, and updated his site to include a DNP list. For that to happen, as many people as possible need to confront him over it with the message that this is an unacceptable way to act.

The whole thing looks like trolling/joking/LOLing to me, especially considering people seem to be going out of their way in a few places to post/request pictures by people they think likely to cause 'drama'.

I'm not saying it's right, I think it's obnoxious, but just my $.02.

He tried doing the same kind of crap when he was running the server for Fur Affinity... and I would know since I'm one of the admins.

You mean his intentions are not pure and just in his effort to fuck over artists of the community he claims to serve and wishes to protect?

Even with it closed, I remain concerned about character issues involving the folks running things. People seldom change. We have had the opportunity to observe warning signs over the last few months in a variety of things.

There are ethical problems that are only masked now due to the firestorm of controversy. What is likely to surface again in the future ? And again and again and again......
