Update: She fixed the name on my badge today. Wohoo its pretty too, now just 2 art peices left till this is resolved.

Original post:---------
Well Starfinder finished one third of my commissions she offered instead of the stuff she owed me. but she got my name wrong and I wrote her about it and she didn't respond until I left a not on her fa saying it was one third done and she was gone again so she sent me this back

You know, I'm really not pleased that you posted on my old FA, where I can not even defend myself, shit-talking because I finished 'half of your works and then fell off the planet again". Did you try to contact me to see why? No. Well, guess what? I had finals and had to study. That comment was entirely unnecessary and does nothing to help me.

You pretend to care, but honestly I don't think you do. I'll finish up your remaining things over the summer break, but knock it off with the rude comments. Seriously.

-------------------------------------------------------
So I guess I will never see the rest of it now. I wish now I had just asked for my money back. I actually apologized and tried to sympathize but just got more guilt and now haven't heard from her and can't even use the first badge since the name is wrong urg.

Well.. nice to see she's still being nasty, non-apologetic, pretending it's your problem to find out what her Horrible Problem of the Week is, and guilt tripping the crap out of her customers. Maybe if she hadn't scammed so many people for so long, she wouldn't have been banned from FA, and she could 'defend herself'. Pfft.

This is why I was so sure she'd never get any better.

I second this comment, she keeps pointing fingers like it was everyone else's mistakes and problems.

and to make it worse, she acts like everyone owed her something, even when she was PAID TO DO A JOB.

she's never had any intention of completing any of her queue. At this point people need to band together and sue her for breach of contracts

I hate it when Starfinder plays the victim card. It seems like something is always up (finals, paying for her dog, her rent is due blahblahblah) with her. Don't feel guilty, it's her own fault.

When I do badge commissions, one of the most integral things is getting the name right. It's not that hard.

Being an artist is undoubtedly, very challenging. Especially if you're doing it for work. She is not the only one who is drawing to keep food on her table (or to pay vet bills), and her business ethic and excuses are just getting tiresome.
There are other artists out there who are working through the same, if not more dire circumstances. They aren't terribly backlogged, they admit to fault and they're eager to please. Her circumstances are being used as an excuse, when progress and resolution comes much easier when you aren't consistently blaming your surroundings and circumstances for your wrong-doings.

Some people just aren't cut out for art as full time work. I recognized this in myself a long time ago, and so I kept my full time job, instead. Abilities and skills are one thing, but if you can't keep a business ethic your skills aren't going to do you much good for very long.

Is something keeping you from asking for your money back now? After this display and her error (and refusal to fix it), do you really want to continue business? I'd say this is appropriate terms to end the transaction, in all honesty.

This.

I am debating on starting commisions (example of my style in my icon), but am afraid of oberburdening myself. I have fibromalgia, so stress = Pain. BUT I would love to have some extra money. Not to mention crushing self esteem issues on my art! Heh.

I'm already stressed and I haven't even started!

But even on my worst days I wouldn't flip on someone like that. She got herself banned from FA, and the OP DID TRY TO CONTACT HER, SHE IGNORED IT.

So really? That's messed up.

I think the page shout is appropriate even though FA rules don't exactly like that, but it's better than someone spamming it with "go here to find astray on inkbunny" (which I'm glad to see was cleared out) like the mods do except with the 24hour suspension notice.

Sorry to hear that you've had troubles with her and that she even got the name wrong, she really needs to put a journal up when "finals" or whatever come up rather than just leaving and hoping all her current commissioners forget all about buying stuff from her.

It might be me, as I've never been to university and I know they all have their own rules, but aren't the majority of schools done finals in like May? I know I'm always surprised when a friend mentioned they finished their finals and our locals high schools haven't even started exams.

Wow, boo-hoo, she has FINALS. Oh cry me a river, I know some folks who are literally starving and DESPERATE for commissions. Hell, they WISH they could afford school. Suck it up, Starfinder. YOU took on the work, it's YOUR job to complete it correctly.

I'd say just ask for your money back. And some for the unusable badge she's refusing to correct. :/

When I had finals, I would have not taken commisions at all! I was an illustration major, so most of my finals involved tons of drawing, adding more stress ontop of that?

Not smart.

She does watch us, and is even a member. She's always been welcome to try to defend herself on here, she just never does (and occasionally sends whiteknights instead) because she knows we won't fall for her garbage and that she can't boohoo her way out of her responsibilities.

But she isn't banned from here or anything. She never has been. She replied to a couple of the first posts about her years ago, I believe. But it's really saying something that she's such a constant problem that I even was able to write that sentence. I don't know why she doesn't realize her behaviour is unacceptable.

Yes, she is also those. She occasionally tried to hide under different names but her style is just distinct enough (despite her occasional tracing issues) that nobody was ever fooled for very long.

"That comment was entirely unnecessary and does nothing to help me."

Sorry that the truth hurts, Star.

From the comments I've seen, the OP has been backing Star pretty much the whole time from at least the standpoint of "I've been waiting for this, but she's been in contact and she's making good on it so far!" and Star turns around and unleashes this guilt-tripping (and totally unwarranted) note when there has been zero contact on her part. It takes all of five minutes to create a journal saying "Contact will be scarce for a while because of finals, sorry!" That's seriously it. One sentence. I'm appalled, but not surprised, as unfortunate as that is.

Artists

Date: 2011-06-11 06:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] minimalismo.livejournal.com
What pisses me off the most about some artists (like Starfinder) is that they are ignorant. Poor communication skills shows a lack of respect for your customer (you know... the ones who pay your bills and expenses?)

If you are going to be late on something, let your customer know well in advance and learn how to not take orders if you can't get your time management up to par. It's not called customer service for nothing. If you can't take the heat, get out of the damned kitchen.

There are plenty of artists out there that can handle what artists like Starfinder can't, so she had better realize that competition is stiff and that she's not God's (or whatever deity people worship) gift to the world.

Date: 2011-06-11 06:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] saitenyo.livejournal.com
You definitely didn't do anything wrong here. It is extremely rude and unprofessional of her to try to make herself the victim and place the blame on you when she's the one who didn't finish the work you paid for. You got crappy customer service and are entirely withing your rights to say so publicly. That's business. It's fairly clear at this point that she can't handle art as a business like a mature professional, and that's her problem, not yours.

I wouldn't have apologized if I were you. Nor sympathized. That's exactly what she was trying to do. She's being manipulative and trying to guilt people into feeling sorry for her so she doesn't have to be accountable for her mistakes.

Edit: Basically what I am saying is you should be firm with her. Don't let her guilt/manipulate you anymore. You are in the right here and she is in the wrong. There's no way around that. Don't let her manipulate and try to control this situation when she's the one who needs to take action to make this right.

You know, her problems would be completely solved if she just learned to not spend prematurely. In fact, that would fix the problems of half the people featured here. Artists, please don't spend the cash until the work is done for good; you never know when somebody decides that they want that money back.

Date: 2011-06-13 05:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vantid.livejournal.com
While I agree it's wise not to spend the money until the commission is complete (in a perfect world!), an artist is not a bank. You cannot make a deposit, change your mind, and ask for a withdrawal. There has to be a pretty good reason to ask for a refund such as in Star's case, where it has been years of bad customer communication and service.
