PROOF: work completed so far as compared to her usual standards of completed work

EXPLAIN: Has anyone heard from her directly?  Has she perhaps lost access to an email account?  She's deleted her FA and DeviantArt accounts, moved SoFurry accounts (from Venigsun to Ravenca), and does not appear to be answering emails any longer.  The message on her FA profile seems to hint at life troubles.  A friend of mine (TealSky, the fellow who posted the commission in question) commissioned her back in mid-February, and got the displayed image, with a request for any changes or touch-ups that might be required.  Teal let her know he felt the image wasn't fully completed to the standards he paid for, and she responded, saying she would make the touch-ups and send him the completed image - all very friendly, no problems.  Then she apparently dropped off the face of the internet and will no longer return his emails?  But has had time to remove galleries and post to a new SoFurry account since then (most recent upload was, as of this post, 6 hours ago.)  Even if she's not going to do the 'touch-ups', it would be nice to know.

Her friend had wanted to make a 'beware' post on her behalf here a few days ago. Since we don't allow proxy posts it was rejected, but the way the friend talked it seems she's still in communication with her at least.

Violetneko had a similar problem where they bought a piece to be completed by a deadline, but they just commented on stellary's post about it (might be because of the collaboration account stuff)

Also tell your friend to tread carefully or they might end up blocked like violet.

I really don't get why they would bother setting up new accounts straight after quitting FA and leaving several commissioners/trade/collaboration people hanging, they should really be your first priority to sort out.

She said in recent journals (which have since been deleted I think) that she's just not feeling it in regards to personal artwork but is going to continue doing collaboration work with Stellary as "Emberdusk" on FA. Stellary has direct contact with her and has spoken for her in several recent cases(him? sorry, folks have refered to Ven as both and I'm not sure which it is, sorry if I offend, its not my intention). It might be worth it to contact "Emberdusk". She made a journal addressing her commissioners that she will be issuing refunds as soon as she can to those who have been waiting, and I /think/ completing the ones that are close to completion, but didn't indicate how long that would take.

Yeah, not gonna lie... I find it weird that he posts a journal claiming that he hates doing art and that he "threw away ten years of my life for nothing" and then disappears like this, claims he doesn't have the time or interest for it and yet is totally up for doing commissions as this... Emberdusk thing and doing commission auctions.

And apparently, folks who go to Emberdusk with their issue to try and contact Ven only get blocked for "harrassment" because Ven isn't doing art as Venigsun anymore and "Sorry, you commissioned Ven, not Emberdusk, go away."

This has all kinds of sketchy written all over it. :/

Demanding yes, harassment? I don't think so. I would be upset too if the day before my commission was said to be done, that the artist totally dropped everything and hid behind someone else as a "collaborator".

I can see why Violet is upset, and maybe didn't have a good use of tact, but she's well within her rights to try and contact the artist who has really let people down.

I highly doubt this ONE person is the reason Ven is leaving. I believe that it's a result of the several overdue commissions that they are running away from. She could have easily noted Violet to calm her down and explain the situation or perhaps talk to a mod about being bothered, or heck, ignored violet earlier on. This isn't adding up at all to me.

Annoying commissioner or not, is not enough of an excuse for Ven to neglect her duties and prior paid work.

so basically, Venigsun is completely disregarding everyone's outstanding commission in favor of making more money and potentially running off with the money, with an artist who also, has a less than stellar reputation. pun mildly intended.

not to mention that Stellary shouldn't be the one speaking for Venigsun in regards to his commissions, especially when she has /atrocious/ PR skills and is very deserving of her tag here on AB. they're HIS business, not Stellary's, and if she's somehow getting 'harassed'[asking her for so much as a commission update apparently constitues as harassment for her] for it, then it's seriously her fault for involving herself with someone who really can't be bothered to get around to putting closure to his outstanding artwork.

This is the second time he's "left" FA. Getting the art he owed to me since October was like pulling teeth, but I got it eventually. He claimed that she was "getting around" to answering my emails, but I saw him clearly answering those who sent emails after me on the same day.

I had to try multiple times to get him to answer a simple email with "yes, I am still working on your art." MULTIPLE. When I finally got frustrated and left him a shout, he answered me within minutes telling me not to "get upset".

Edit: It appears Venigsun is male? My bad. :x

I was able to get ahold of her by email relatively immediately, so I'd suggest she's no answering.

I'd like to second the beware though. She was one of the contracted artists on a project currently in motion, and to keep details to a minimum as the project is still under wraps, she handled her "leaving" very unprofessionally, including leaving other involved artists waiting on her work, lack of communication, lack of correctly recalling contents of email communication, poor attitude, and failure to take responsibility of her actions. In addition, the sketches she provided by the due date reflected none of the ability shown in her gallery, suggesting that her presented work is not solely a product of her current ability. I've been managing art projects in the fandom for 5 years, and it was the most unprofessional behavior and work I've dealt with.

we had an agreement to do collabs and I would sketch as she would color some of my work.
She had given me a list of her commissions since she needed help with anatomy so I completed a few sketches.
I have not seen any colors as of yet.
But a day later she collabs with Stellary and I was kinda thrown on the back burner @___@

Sounds kind of like a scam. I'm not familiar with this artist, but it sounds like they make a name, take money to do commissions, don't do the commissions, claim life problems, then delete their account and make a new one with a new name and start the process over. It's times like this, and pretty much only this, that sites like Encyclopedia Dramatica were really helpful for warning many many people about certain artists.

Good luck getting your money back, or your artwork. I take it that's not going to happen, but let us know if you get something back.

This has happend before on her other account on FA (Mondeis) I comissioned her to do a piece for me and poof she disappers of the face of the earth and says she is not doing furry art anymore. A year later I see art that looks like hers posted of FA so I check it out and she is back so I sent her a note and I did finally get my art but feel bad for all who have commissioned her now because not once did she respond to my emails.

It seems like she/he may have a routine down. I can't say for sure this artist is doing it to purposefully rip people off or if she just hasn't learned her lesson after taking on too much and then having to run from her self inflicted work overload. If this is the first time there has been a BEWARE made, maybe she'll start to think about her work habits. This seems to be a much too common thing in the fandom these days. It's easy to do when you're higher end and the money is good and fast.

I have been playing around with the idea of having my own journal/site that is purely for rating. Sort of like the way Ebay lets you know the reliablity of a seller/buyer from previous transactions. Over time almost all active commissioners would have rap sheets that future commissioners can look to and weigh the risks/benefits. Proof for negative feedback required and no deletion of postings unless an admin finds just cause...

SHE (yeah, Venigsun aka Mondeis aka Melissa) obviously uses a different Email addy, try ravenca(at)hotmail.com to contact her. I sent her a PM on her new FA account *it is abandoned again I guess* Firevision a few days ago and she answered straight away, telling me that she is going trough some stuff but not exactly what it is. On the other side I offered her to help finishing the commissions she owes if she sent the files which she hasn't done so I guess she hasn't even started most of the work and I have no clue when she lies, when she is telling the truth blah :|
She also told me that she has intention to refund everybody/finish the artwork she owes but-I wonder how she's ever going to manage when she is piling more and more work on top :(

Yeah. This needs to be tagged as a beware now methinks . . . Considering that OP was utterly polite and made it a lost contact rather than a beware initially, venigsun should consider herself lucky she got the benefit of the doubt to begin with.

There's no need to 'quit' anything if it's just commissions and commissioners she wants to get away from. Just refund/fulfil backlog, and then stop taking them. Simples?

I'll NEVER understand how people can take someone's money, not provide what was paid for or a refund and don't communicate, then act like the customer is at fault when they become frustrated by being kept in the dark. I just don't get this "HOW DAREEEEE YOUUUUUU" attitude. If it were me in Venigsun's place, I would be horrified at the situation I was in and falling all over myself to fix it and apologize, and I just can't fathom the idea of feeling entitled to see it any other way.

But of course, I won't be in Venigsun's place, because I'm careful about how many commissions I take at a time (usually only one!) and I update my commissioner's if I get sick or something comes up. Personally, too, not expecting them to watch my FA journals. It really isn't difficult and these artists simply have no excuse.

I'm a bit sad to read about her here as I've followed him/her for a long while. I was irritated by the attitude here in her newest journal, she's trying the guilt trip people about the refunds. If you took money for a service and don't provide it, I can't have sympathy for your "taking money that was supposed to go to rent." Um no. If you don't have any intention of providing the service (for whatever reason), then that money = stolen until returned. It's *not* your money.

OKAY a respected artist on FA in the middle of tragic real life issue on the NINTH of JULY 2011 (EXACTY 1 WEEK AGO) was forced to turn away from the added stresses that a few people were causing by being over demanding.

Did she deal well, well maybe not? Tell me how would you all do in the same circumstance????

Before this young artist had a chance to comprehend what was going on the rats had started feating on her flesh, I watched as she tried so deperatly to fix things as they hit but as soon as she dealt with 1 up would spring another then another then another.

You all claim as I to support our young artists but..... alas things get out of control so I'm stepping up to say.....grow up and put your words where they can help...teach the young do not dismiss their attempts to do the right thing by idly standing by and condeming them without a chance!

If you have ever been through a tragic event ...Did YOU get everything done as per usual as though tragic circumstances are nothing, did you still keep up contact to others and behave normally? I dear say not!

On the day in question the artists REAL life was thrown into not an online drama senerio... BUT a real life Drama was unfolding before them that they needed to deal and cope with. They tried desparetly to keep everything in order but NO-ONE can deal effectively while in shock!

Unfortunate as it may have been for the online drama in JUST ONE WEEK I have seen that many lies, untruths and out and out fanciful stories written about the artist by people who DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!

FACT: the outstanding MONEY is a very small amount and will be paid back as the artist upfront promised and still promises...

But will anyone on here be honest enough to admit that this has all been a storm in a tea cup produced by a few of impatient sorts and by standers!

AS I SAID: 1 WEEK is all it took for the rats to feast on the artists suffering.

Wow, after reading all of this, I have to say I've lost quite a bit of respect for Ven. It's a shame. I really enjoyed her art.

I feel bad for all of those who got burned and hope they get repaid in full. Also, I hope an admin finally takes action to prevent account hopping again.

I just got jipped out her Kiriban prize. [Though the other winner got theirs... Kinda sucks hardcore because of that fact.] I can't imagine what it'd be like to have paid upwards of $200 for something and not gotten it. Again, best of luck to those on getting what's owed to them.
