Artist Beware(?): Crystal Fox

In 2010, I asked to do a  trade with a user named crystal-fox, a small scale one at that. She noted me saying she had no problem with this and could do it shortly.

Months go buy and she tells me she has a broken hand and can't do art for a bit. I say okay and wait a little longer, but now  she stops replying to my messages. Then in December of 2010 she starts posting a bunch of art, and even is offering free art to others. Annoyed, I send her a PM asking what has happened to my own trade.

I get no response,and since April she has dissapeared completely. So,I come here to ask: has anyone else seen this person anywhere?

I find this upsetting as I have never encountered this issue before and she seemed to eventually just flat out ignore me. Did I do something wrong here? :c

Unless you've had a previous history with this artist or the two of you were friends ... I probably would have gotten my half done and then held onto it until I knew for sure they were willing to commit or had healed from their injury.
If I had to take a guess, it would seem that she merely "lost interest" in the transaction and kind of put it out of sight and out of mind despite your messaging. She may also may not see an art trade similar to two money worthy items being exchanged, in other words a depreciation for the money+effort that can go into a trade.
To avoid losing out on art, I would place a big obnoxious watermark on that pretty picture of yours and insist that you'll remove the watermark when the trade is complete. Otherwise hold back on your share until the artist is 'whole' again.

Well the hand injury thing happened WAY after she agreed to it, and a fair amount of time after I gave her my end.

And I see but she was doing things for other people for free thats why it really got to me. I didn't want to to have to do watermarks but I guess i'm going to have to resort to that.

She used to note me on occasion, but I haven't heard anything from her in ages. Looking at her page, it looks like something happened to her or she quit. <=/

Crystal has had a lot going on in her life right now. She's a local friend of mine, and between her fiance losing his job and them being in danger of losing their apartment, she's just been out of touch with everyone. I can ping her and see what's up. It might be that she's just completely forgotten about everything you agreed to. She's not online much, to be honest.

I can't guarantee results, but if you haven't given your end of the trade, why not just write it off as nothing lost, nothing gained?
