[identity profile] kayla-la.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
In regards to this post, we have discussed it and have come to the decision that anyone who gets a warning and then deletes their comment, thus breaking the rules twice in a row, will be immediately suspended for five days and encouraged to spend some of that time reading the rules before being allowed into the community again. The userinfo page will be updated to reflect this stricter punishment.

Deleting comments/posts is one of the highest offenses you can make in this community, and it's important everyone understands this coming in.

Again, I encourage everyone, new and old, to re/familiarize yourself with the rules before participating. "I didn't know!" won't get you out of a warning/banning.

For what it's worth, I recently stopped myself right before deleting & reposting a comment where I made a minor error. (Two unnecessary linebreaks, like so.)

The fear of the banhammer -- it's working! ;)

I totally hear ya! It's moments like that where I really miss my edit button though. :P

May I make a suggestion?

Is there a way to disable Twitter accounts from posting here?

(Wait, scratch that. I just realized jamesferret posted using a Twitter account... I had no idea LJ allowed people to make posts with them.)

Seems to be a new cross-account feature. We recently got a spam account via Facebook. Took us a few minutes to figure out how to ban 'em!

I hope it's not being applied so strictly that it would get me in trouble for something that happened when I was posting a reply a month or two ago.

I had composed my reply, and clicked the Post Comment button. Nothing happened - it appeared to hang, so after about a minute I clicked the menu bar button to stop loading, then clicked Post Comment again. That time it worked, and showed it had actually posted both times, an exact copy. So I deleted one of them.

FYI, I believe that, while anyone can edit original posts, only paid LJ subscribers have the ability to edit comments.

It's true that only paid LJ subscribers can edit comments. I was looking around trying to figure that out myself about a month ago and was pretty disappointed by that fact. :/

If I deleted any of my own comment, that was thanks for the bad grammar xP but I always wrote a new instead the old one...

I just wish that LJ would allow for free account comment editing, even if it were limited.

Last night I posted something on some news site, and it put up a 5-minute timer that I had to review my post and choose to edit it, if I found anything wrong with it. Even something like that on LJ would be very helpful.

With all the talk of edits I have a question - what happens with paid accounts radically editing their posts? That could "delete" something effectively.

I think that I'm suggesting that completely editing out a comment and replacing it with another is remarkably similar to just deleting a post and was wondering if that's an offense in and of itself.

We'll take it on a case-by-case basis for those instances. We mods get emailed whenever someone edits a comment, so we can compare to the original comment if need be. The vast majority of the time, edits actually ADD to the comment, or fix grammatical errors.

If someone edits to cover up breaking a rule, we will definitely address that as needed (warning, ban, etc., depending on the person's rule-breaking history).

What about the most recently removed post concerning the icon thefts? That seemed to disappear overnight here a few days ago.

Ah, I've sometimes wondered where certain posts go while I'm browsing on my phone. Friends-lock!
