Here's my last note to her RL friend.

EXPLAIN: I'm not too terribly worried about this, since we agreed that I'd pay her upon completion, but I've never had this happen before and communication was excellent until she "lost" her internet or something. That and this was a commission I was really looking forward to as I love her art style. It's just more disappointing than anything, I suppose. :c I don't know if she has any other commissioners either or if I'm the only one. Should I just let this go?

Considering no money exchanged hands and there's a shout on her page saying she'll be without net for a long time it kinda looks like you'll have to let it go.

Her friends aren't obligated to act as go-betweens for business transactions and it's understandable that they may want to stay out of it.

Was that response to Shuki really necessary? Business is business. While I would perfectly be happy to talk to one of my irl friend's customers if they approached me, I would not become their middle man period.

I understand you're frustrated, but you kind of put the friend in a weird situation. It's unfair to be upset at them and snap at anyone who is telling you that a commission is between you and the artist.

Not to mini-mod (boot to the head if I am, I'm sorry, but deleting your posts) is against the rules and you can be in trouble for it.

Since you didn't pay her, I feel as though she isn't really obligated to finish the product or even keep in contact. I know it must suck, but like shukivengeance said, I'd just let it go. At least you didn't lose anything. Believe me, I had this happen to me once. The commissioner said not to pay them until they completed the picture. They never did. I contacted them about it, they didn't reply back, and I eventually forgot about it.

I'm not going to argue with you, but starting off a post with "good god" and ending it with "shit" tends to lean towards you being upset and snapping at people. You're snapping at me right now.

You may not mean it but your tone is conveying this way to other people.

I understand your frustration completely and even though no money has exchanged hands I still think poorly of artists who don't bother to follow up/cancel a commission they've agreed to. It'd be like going to a restaurant and ordering food and they never come back to tell you they're not going to make it. It's just bad business.

But unfortunately the only thing you can do is shrug it off. If I were you I would send a note saying due to their inability to stay in touch you would like to cancel the commission. I used to live in fear of a commission like this popping up a year later expecting me to pay when I've already moved on until I realized that I can just send a note cancelling and save myself the headache.

This is not how you make a post to this community. Please see here (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=76&q=community post) for how to post to a community.
