[identity profile] anjel-kitty.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
I was wondering what ya'll thought of creating a community call Aritst_reccomend where people could post about good experiences they have had with artists, and reccomend them for future business, sort of a Ying to this comm's yang.
Do you think a community like this would be useful?

And in other news, I am going to be complining the final list to post up for memories sometime this week so if you have any further suggestions about what is good practice for taking or making commisions, please post it here so it can be included, Ch'marr, the head mod of VCL has asked to use the list for VCL, so I want to make it very good, and I would espeically apperciate all of ya'lls input.

Thank you in advance,
Anjel

That's a really great idea! We should have a place to post about positive expiriences w/ buyers or sellers, since hey, us good workers need some attention too! ;3

I don’t see anything wrong with making a recommendations LJ. It certainly might reduce the overall number of commissioners having bad experiences and help promote more deserving artists.

As for the Guide you’re creating, might it be possible to see a draft posted so that people can add anything that might have been omitted?

Can't you already phrase good artists/buyers here? Though I admit, most people are more inclined to tell about the had here, but I have heard some phrase about it. The community doesn't sound like a bad idead, though, since it'd make it easier to dish out compliments on good customers/buyers and not feel like you're wasting people's time.

artist_recommend = IMHO, no.
isn't that what good feedback on Furbid is for?

don't get me wrong, I like the idea of recognizing good buyers and sellers, but I think that the good heavily outweighs the bad as far as furry commissions go.

plus, I see the potential for favoritism (conscious or not) where people start tending towards only those who have been written about positively, leaving this big gap for people who may be good at making transactions but don't have anything exceptionally noteworthy about the way they do it, and that sort of thing... so either you'd get a post every now and then saying "artist X is teh awesome cause we're almost like friends now!!" or a million posts saying "artist Y doesn't suck!"

...maybe I don't know where I'm going with this, but I just don't see an overwhelming need or draw for such a community.

I don’t know. Not every artist out there uses Furbid auctions. Though I do myself, my last handful of commissions have been non-auction based. In cases like that, the only feedback you might receive would be on an LJ like the one being proposed.

The bigger concern would be people getting their buddies to post false recommendations. But then you could equally get people slandering good artists on this community out of spite/jealousy/ or some unrelated grudge.

I would say no, because any artist could have a friend just say they're really reliable :(

But it's up to you, really.

There's a like problem with having someone post something here about so-and-so being really unreliable... I don't really see it as a 'problem' in what I've viewed of this community so far, because people do step up and state good experiences they've had with such-and-such artist on negative posts about them, and -most- people seem to be rather good about it.

But, of course, it's up to them.

Yeah, I'd subscribe to that group, as long as it was spelled artist_recommend instead.

hmm, this may actually be a good idea... I can see the danger of playing favourites, however neongryphon has a good point about the furbid thing. I use furbid sometimes, but hardly at all, I have virtually no feedback on that website. And as long as we stay a way from recommending friends simply for the fact that they are friends, it could work out well. I have a few recommendations on both artists and customers I'd like to make. ^^ Please do post and alert us if you end up making this community.

I agree with alot of the things being said.. I'd like to see that community, but I alwso worry favoritism or, that friends would go in reccommending commissions.

Though, that being said.. I have had made friends with a fair few of my commissioners and buyers :/ And I am sure that is likely to be the case with other artists too, so It may be unavoidable :P

Yeah, I think favoritism is unavoidable. It's what makes furry a fandom :D

I say go ahead and make your community, Anjel. Pimp it around and see what happens. You can always update the rules as you watch the project take shape.

I'm glad you're taking responsibility for writing the list, too, since it's your idea :p

Make it a rule that you cannot post without actually having done business with the person. Otherwise it's just gonna be people's friend's pimping their art.

Maybe even have the commissioner post the image they commissioned.
