WHAT: I posted a YCH auction on FA. They outbid the last person by a good bit. The auction ended and because it was a decent amount of money I gave them a few options for payment.


That last payment option was in case they wanted to do something other than half now and half later.

Since I had thought he was paying, I went ahead and did the lines, but as I hadn't seen anything pop up from paypal, I mentioned it in the note.


His response:


I told him I would do the flat colors but nothing else until payment was received. He later commented and it sounded like he thought I was going to complete it, but I reiterated that I would not complete the picture until at least half of the payment was received.



I sent him the flats for approval and he said they looked good, but nothing else was mentioned. So I waited. Today I decided to contact him regarding payment as I hadn't heard anything. This is my comment and his response:




Because of this, I felt that other artists needed to be warned regarding his ethics when bidding on things, and I don't know if he's ever tried to commission someone before, but just in case, I figure this wouldn't hurt being here either. I told him he should give back to the community and go comment on pictures and show support that way to try and make amends. I know it's my fault for going as far as I did with the picture, but I don't want anyone else to get burned like this.

Beware duly noted. Really you shouldn't have started till you had the money, but I'm guilty of doing the same thing (and almost getting stiffed). Still, he admits outright that he never intended to pay and that leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

part of the reason I did was because a friend sort of vouched for him. Said he'd seen him around his gallery. I also understand some situations, but that's why I only went as far as the flats. Figured i'd just erase him out and then draw in the next highest bidder if they were interested.

Yeah, normally I stick to my guns, but Alt sorta vouched for him. He said he'd seen him around and for me to be a little more optimistic about it. That's partially why, that and I figured once I got the flats down, I could just erase him out and re-draw the next highest bidder. I sent him a small version tho, with my watermark all over it.

The fact he waited until he had some sort of product 'in hand' before admitting his lack of funding shows how truly sincere he is about stiffing you what was owed.

And of course a look at his page and his journal is a request for someone to do a porn piece with his six OCs. For free, obviously. :|

That's just terrible...I would feel upset too over doing that work (on trust that they were sending the payment) and getting that instead.

Did you watermark the WIPs? Hopefully you did so they didn't get the full work for free.

yes, I did. Made them small and watermarked them all over. I had a bad feeling to begin with, but a friend sort of vouched for him. Said he'd seen him around his gallery, so I decided to give him a chance. I don't think customers realize that it's folks like this guy who make us artists as "hard-assed" as we are about payments :/

I'm not usually a malicious person, but I really, REALLY hope you report him to the admins and get him banned for this. Even if he does make another account, maybe he'll think twice before trying to scam artists out of their art.

Wow... that guy scammed for free art. He came up with tons of excuses why he cannot pay you, which is the reason why it's important to get the money firsthand before starting the piece.

the thing is is that I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and a friend had seen him around and thought he wouldn't give me any problems. not saying it's his fault or anything, but I was being pretty pessimistic about doing work for the guy, considering no ones ever offered 150 for my art before. so he thought he'd encourage me. I don't normally do art unless I have at least half, so thankfully this is only the second time i've been burned since i've started commissions a year ago.

I would definitely report him to FA, and in the future not to start on anything until you have at least half the payment upfront. At the very least only show people a small, crappy quality preview with bit red words on it that says "UNPAID" so that the commissioner knows you've done the work and they don't grab it and go running, leaving you with nothing.

Going through the shouts left on his DeviantArt page, he's apparently been banned before (not sure why) and his asodanifdas account was made to get around whatever he was banned for. He's also been called out for stealing other peoples' character designs (possibly the artwork too, though I'm not sure). Some more digging through comments also shows that he's just... An awfully disturbed person. Not going to get into the details here.

Definitely blocking him, and the beware is very well warranted. This guy's not sorry at all.

This is why I NEVER do a commission unless I get full of even half payment from someone. I've had someone like this, asking for big ass commissions and have no intention of paying, I usually spot them from a mile off though. There is one guy I've dealt with, whom, even before he paid, asked me if I'd do free art for him out of pity.

Especially with that kind of money, I was very suspicious of what he was on about, but was encouraged to be optimistic. (that friend has more faith in my art than I do lol). Unfortunately he duped both of us though.
