Explain:
*** FA Notes ***
July 2011 -commissioned and items scanned & uploaded address was attached to paypal as requested

September 6th - contacted me for a mailing address - still failed to mail

October 28th - contacted her for sketches - was promised they'd be put in the mail that day

*** Emails ***
November 15 2011 - contacted me via email to say they were lost because of a move and promised to find them but if she failed to do so she'd refund me. I didn't like the idea of a refund especially since she just took MORE commissions just to eat that day so I offered that if she could not find them that they be replaced. This was agreed upon.

November 20th - emailed me to say she found them and would send them the next day - never recieved

Jan 24th - sent an email asking about where they are and still have yet to hear a reply.

You've waited at least six months for her to just mail your items. There's no way you can be a bad commissioner about this, imo, even if you're bugging her every day. I hope she finally sends your stuff or you get a refund.

I personally think you should accept her offer of a refund, as I think you're more likely to get money (eventually) than any effort whatsoever.

Then again, I don't buy that she's feeding herself off commissions, and it's not just AB that has given me a healthy suspicion of this sort of thing. In the past with many other artists, this has been an exaggeration to receive quick cash from new clients.

You really shouldn't feel that bad if she's digging her own hole. If she got the work done instead of taking on more and not doing them then maybe she wouldn't be in that position. At least, that's just me. Either way I hope you get something from this. :C

There's a picture in her gallery of a guy with a dog, & it talks about how she just adopted the dog - this was 2 months ago, probably not long after she offered you the refund. If she was struggling to feed herself, she really shouldn't be adopting pets...

The points about her taking commissions to feed herself? Mildly relevant to this case, since the OP declined a refund in the first place because said situation.

Issues surrounding the pooch? Not quite as relevant because its not our place to start judging lives outside of the business realm. We're not the comm for that.

I'm just saying that people shouldn't feel guilty about asking for refunds; just because an artist says they're on hard times doesn't mean they actually are (or that they didn't bring them on themselves)
I'm not saying we should be judging them or their life choices; I'm saying that if you're not getting what you paid for, you shouldn't let a sob story (which may or may not be true) get in the way of asking for your money back. Pointing out the dog was just proof that there's more going on than just 'I can't afford food'

While you have a valid point about the not feeling bad about asking for refunds, because an artist's issues aren't their client's problem, it's still not appropriate to bring things like their pet up here. We try to keep things relevant to the business transaction, and that is a little too personal.

I brought up the fact she had a job. You brought up her pet situation which alluded to her being irresponsible about her pet, which is not the point of A_B at all.

I commissioned her over a year ago, and something similar to your story happened... I requested a refund after a while and did get it so it's all squared away, but asking for a refund was pretty much the only way I got anything out of her.
