WHO:AluminemSiren

WHERE: FA

WHAT: $25 Portrait Commission

WHEN: October 27th 2011

This is my first post here and I believe it has come to the point now where more attention needs to be brought to this.  Because I am not the only one going through this situation.  Back in October AluminemSiren had opened up for some more of his portrait commissions.  I had liked his style so I had jumped at it since I was around when he put a journal up on it for a change.  I ended up being one of the first people to comment in the journal, paid right after it and was on the actual list of people to be completed first.  After some time he continued to add to the waiting list and also ended up opening up for more icon commissions for "new glasses money".  I know how it is with art and I figured it was kind of an emergency so I never said anything.  Though at one point I checked his portrait queue journal to see if it was updated at all or if maybe he updated mine and I somehow missed the sketch of the drawing.  At which point I had noticed one of the new ones he was taking where he said he would have the sketch to them in a day or two. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2853928/#cid:23299249

Finally last month after waiting about six months for the drawing I started throwing him comments as to what was going on because he put up yet another journal for more icons because they "need something to do" and "won't have time for portraits."  I had commented in that journal to try and get an answer from him and at the same time I sent him a note on it. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3373137/ He has since then hid my comment in the journal and replied to me afterword finally.  Here is my note to him and the one I got back from him. http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/6375/wwwfuraffinitynetviewme.png http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6375/wwwfuraffinitynetviewme.png After which I had sent him a reply on a few things that I would like changed with the drawing. http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/6375/wwwfuraffinitynetviewme.png

At this point I have yet to hear back from him again on anything and I had sent him another note asking for an update on the drawing and it is yet to be read. http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/6375/wwwfuraffinitynetviewme.png

For as long as I've waited for this I don't want any kind of refund or anything like that.  Especially since he has given me a quick sketch on the drawing.  I just want to get the finished product from him and not have this drag along anymore.

Approved, but your image links aren't turning into legit hyperlinks just to let you know, so you can fix that up!

Sorry, I haven't really replied to any of my notes since I came back out of town. I'm going through a really rough breakup, and been emotionally drained, maybe even depressed, and I've lost the motivation to do much of anything at the moment.

I don't like to explain myself anymore because I think most people will think I'm just trying to think of the latest, greatest excuse to not work on my commissions, but I really have been an emotional wreck these past few weeks and it's killer on my motivation.

People are extremely understanding about life situations - especially a break up, and I say that from very recent experience myself - but you need to communicate that with them.

Your last journal was over a month ago, so all you'd need to do would be to post something like "To my commissioners" and say just what you said here along with offering refunds if people do not want to wait anymore (if refunds aren't possible, let them know that as well.)

As I said to you before on one of your journals it's best to communicate with the commissioner about progress instead of just ignoring the email/note/message/etc. because it will give them a relief that you're still alive and active and not ignoring them.

Same for me, exactly the same scenario as you red13nanaki !!! I paid him via paypal about 6 months ago sent him messages and even post on his FA but still nothing even no answer from him yet! So he must fix that or give money back to people. Anyway I'm with you red13nanaki . *hugs*

It's hard to please people, someone says updating people via my page is a bad way of communicating, then someone else says that I should do it, though I don't personally feel like I need to update and let all my followers know, just my commissioners.

Calling my friends assholes probably isn't the way to go about calling them out on it, especially not on a_b. I'm pretty sure flaming and name-calling is against the rules.

Anyway, I didn't ask them to do that. Honestly, I haven't actually seen them be assholes to anyone, they've stated their opinion of a_b on my latest journal and that's all. CarrionCoyote was mainly annoyed that someone who is obviously biased against me and has issues with me in the past was commenting on one of my a_b posts, and that was the point of his later comment. And no, the issues that person had with me was not about a commission.

Yes, they spammed my page because they thought it sucked that people were leaving comments on my page. It was my own fault for not replying to those notes from those people sooner, but I've already done so, except for one who wasn't actually a commissioner and just a kiriban winner.

I don't know where you're going with this, I'm just telling you that I didn't personally ask them to spam my page, they did that on their own and I'm sorry that it bothered you.

Getting involved because I was one of the ones on his shout page.

I wasn't making fun of the people asking for their art-- me and Orion constantly ask each other where x piece of art is that we don't owe each other for giggles. And besides, if it bothered anyone, why not just contact the ones responsible for it directly and tell us you felt like we were making fun of you? Blaming and getting mad at Orion for something he didn't do and didn't know was gonna happen is pretty pointless.

And I, at least, spammed his page because the shouts asking for their commissions were no longer relevant as he has responded to people now(and I'm sure they've been seen by him at this point). It's pretty discouraging to look at your page and only see people mad or upset with you. Also, because I like to spam his page because he's a good friend. It's not the first time I've spammed his page with silliness, and it probably won't be the last.

Well, if it's not your page, is it really any of your business that we posted on it? What is the harm, really? I don't mean to be rude, but if he's doing everything you guys wanted him to do(respond to your notes, make a journal about his commissions, post WIPs), why is it such a big deal that a couple of us post on his wall? Is he not allowed to joke around with friends because he owes you art?

I never said he didn't bring it on himself, he definitely did. Part of me posting on his wall was making fun of HIM for letting it get to the point that he got posted on a_b(and believe me, I make fun of him for it a lot). But he's not you, and none of us that posted on his wall are you, and we do not need to adhere to what you think is appropriate if it's not actually hindering his ability to do your art. You are totally within your rights to be upset about not receiving your art in a timely manner, but it's really none of your business what we(the posters) do. And like I said, he never asked us to spam his page and we didn't ask for permission, it's not HIS fault we did it, so blaming him for it is totally pointless. In all seriousness we probably would have done it anyway even if he'd told us not to.

And I really don't want you to think I'm being Orion's blindly loyal guard dog or something, because I do agree that you should have received your art long before this point, and he definitely deserves the a_b posts about him. But he doesn't deserve to continually be berated for something he didn't even do and technically isn't even related to YOUR experience with him.

Honestly, if I was worried about the status of my art and I went to someone's page and saw a litany of shouts asking for art, it would make me nervous too.

I know not everyone uses FA for purely professional means, but it is understandable that not everything reads like a joke in text, right?

But we didn't spam his page until after he'd responded to everyone's notes. We didn't push the shouts off his page prematurely, so as that nobody would even get to see them, they'd been there for a while. I think us goofing around is just being blown way, way out of proportion. :/

Right but even after noting everyone, that isn't everyone receiving their stuff. It's a miscommunication, but it was also not the smartest joke to pull.

You're right, it's not, but it's a step in the right direction. But really, it's not your page, and it's not Nanaki's page, why does it matter to you(or him/her) that we spammed it? It's not hindering the progression of any commissions, whatsoever. He's already on a_b, so anyone can clearly see that he's had issues, it's not like shouts on his page were very important, damning evidence... and if they've been answered, why do they need to be there, exactly? And they would have eventually fallen off the page, anyway.

And just saying... swatting your dog with a newspaper is not going to punish the cat that tore the curtains, you know?

Okay, you've made your point that you don't think it's a big deal, a few people have made their points that they think it wasn't the best idea.

I'm going to call this matter closed for now, it's getting spammy and not going anywhere.

Make posts calling people assholes: completely okay.

Make posts defending Orion because he's taking blame that isn't of his own accord, moderator steps in and calls it 'closed'.

Professionalism at it's best.

The poster of the 'asshole' comment was reprimanded for it actually.

And with that, thread frozen.
